Pretty much. I mean I went into the Mitsubishi dealer the other day and asked him about the Evo's and he said mainly the people that buy them are Asians. I only see Asian people driving them down here, not that that's a bad thing.

And not because a new driver should not be driving one of the fastest cars on the road? Let me guess, you are different and don't speed very often and would never break 100mph. OK, I'm done picking on you here. It's just that some of us here have worked hard for years (and are college educated, we don't mow your lawn) and still don't have sports cars.

So what if he is fortunate enough that his dad is in the position to buy him a 30K car. Shahram, just because you work hard and drive a POS, doesn't give you justification to flame this guy. Especially since he did not make it seem as if it was "only" a 30K budget. He doesn't have responsibilities like family or other "life realities", it seems you are jealous that he doesn't and you do. Keep working hard and get yourself a used RX8. Go home.

STi then. Fastest car you can get for that price since you've threw out the Evo.

Otherwise, consider the G35 sedan (the coupe will run you more than 30k for sure), the Mazdaspeed6, the Subaru Legacy GT, the Mustang GT, the 350Z, the RX-8. The Mazdaspeed6, STi, and the Legacy GT are likely going to feel faster than the rest due to the turbo kicking you back in your seat.

And yeah obviously people are going to be jealous of you and your situation, but the other thing is I think everyone's known someone in your situation who was an obviously spoiled brat. I'm not saying you are. I went to high school in a pretty wealthy area (not as wealthy as yours considering you said M3s aren't impressive there). But I've known people whose parents buy them nice cars. Some don't take it for granted but it's pretty rare. Far more people DO take them for granted. Especially those whose parents give them whatever car they want. They crash their cars alot and their parents foot the bills. Those are the people you're going to naturally get associated with though when you say your parents are going to buy you a BMW in high school.

When I was 15, I would have started with karting, if I had the monetary means. When your older you might regret that you have never tried this - especially if you have the means to do it. You can always buy a fast car, but you will never be 17 again.
You definitely won't regret, that you haven't driven a M3, Porsche or Ferrari at the age of 17. People that say "oh, if I only had a Porsche, Boat, Mansion, Elefant or whatever when I was younger." don't exist, but the world is infested with people that say "oh, had I only done this or tried that when I was younger."

but if my parents would give me that money, why don't u just buy a okay car (Nissan, Subaru...) that's fast enough (and depreciate enough like year 2001), Do something with the rest of the money and make your money work for you??? that's the real Asian way

It's just that I have known many kids like this from when I was his age. He is probably here partially to gloat. They do that. I remember this friend I had who called me up to check out the new turbo kit that he had installed in his Porsche for his birthday. And he was gloating, I had friends who were just excited about something and wanted to share, there is a difference. I probably shouldn't attack, but he probably is here to gloat at least a little bit.

I see your point man, and I agree. It it just seems that the forum has become extremely hostile. I also agree that it is probably too much car for this kid. I had a friggin 81 Tercel for my first car, and I loved it. It is just a bit anticlimatic to get such a sweet ride for a first car. But hey, its not a reason to flame.

I agree and I shouldn't have flamed. I did not even intend to do so when I started. This kid has no way of truly appreciating what is before him, no matter how much we tell him. It comes with age, hard work, and life experience. And that thought I guess made me feel jealous. One day I may get one, and I know my appreciation and enjoyment of my used $15K RX-8 (my budget) will be far greater than if I had attained it easily.

Good luck kid, it's a great car. Don't hurt yourself or anyone else. you WILL overestimate your skill, trust me, so be ready for it. I highly suggest a GT with the stability control for you. I don't want it, but I'm a lightfoot, but it might save your life when you decide to do something beyond your (or the car's) capability. Let me guess, your father is a Doctor, probably a Dentist (don't ask, I'm not going there). If I were him, and wanting to spend 30K, I would be buying a nice used Mercedes 320 Coupe. Safe, but still cool. Not to mention insurance. Just because he has money, does not always mean that he likes to give it away. (I know my dad doesn't)

Let’s look at the facts (only skimmed the posts)

1. Dad is buying you a car
2. Price is up to 30k.

My guess is you are 16-18 years old. If this is your first car no way in hell should you be owning anything with the kind of power of an M3 or even the RX8. Even if it isn’t there is just too much temptation to show off and too little experience behind the wheel to know better or control it. Tell dad to buy you a nice used Civic or Mazda 3/6. Even if pops has a bunch of money (which it appears he does) its just plain irresponsible to give a kid something with that kind of power. If he values your life and the lives of others he will never let you get any kind of performance car.

May as well just by a GSXR, at least you would probably only be killing yourself.

I bought my daughter a Mazda6 with the 4-banger as a first car. Easy to operate, looks great, cruises smoothly, all around big disc brakes, nice gas mileage and not too much power to get into trouble with.

if you value your own life, stay away from the sti. Just reading this has given me a pretty big headache. I know right now all you care about is having a performance car, but man, it's beyond obvious that you have no actual expirience. This is gonna bite you real hard in the ***, I've seen it happen first hand actually. The really creepy part was the car was an M3... and the kid was the only rich (i mean RICH) kid in my high school, he lasted 3 weeks before that **** was totalled. At least his parents doomed him to a civic CX after that... Honestly, I agree with what most people say on here, it's not so much that I'm mad you are getting crazily spoiled, it's more that I don't trust any 17 year old kid with no expirience driving around an extremely dangerous machine since it's not only a hazard to you, but to annyone on the roads you may be "having fun" on. I would seriously consider getting something "sporty" but don't jump the gun and go straight for the kill on the first shot. Drive an RSX-S, cheaper to insure, cheap to maintain, cheap on gas, decent power, front wheel drive, nice leather interior, a fancy A on your front and rear bumper, a VERY tunable car, and oh yeah... IT'S A HONDA. This way you can baseline somewhere that is a compromise, learn what driving really is about, and not kill yourself in the mean time. I know since you're 17 you'll probably just brush us off all you want, but if/when something bad DOES happen, you aren't gonna wanna come back here to tell us about it.

Your dad needs to read thid thread and may be he will realize how inresposible he is. if I was your dad and you tell me you want an M3, STi, etc and I could afford it, I put you to work for it after I knock your teeth out. Sorry but I'm old school and I was taught to EARN what I want.

Well only reason I responded the way I did was because it's looking like it's hopeless for us to think there's any chance in hell he's going to end up with something like a Kia. Sure, I've worked my f*cking *** off to have the 2 cars i've wanted to including my 8, and yeah, I started off in **** cars to begin with just like most of us since money really wasn't everywhere (1985 dodge lancer, 2000 plymouth neon :D), so I can appreciate this whole earn what you want debate and agree with you... but this is america. Rich kids can get whatever they want whenever they want, and you standing up against it and speaking out isn't gonna do a damn thing to stop any of it from happening. If I was his dad, believe me, he'd have an old civic that he would have to pay me back for (I'm talking 92-95 eg style civic) and he'd pay the gas and insurance on since 17 year olds can maintain jobs to cover all that easy. However we aren't his parents, we aren't seeing what the obvious dangers are going to be, they just want to make the kid happy. That's why I tossed the compromise word out there.

Well, if you want my opinion on the whole "too spoiled" thing...

I think you should just get a nice low end, reliable, good gas mileage, fun car. like a Mazda 3, Civic, Corolla, Scion, or Rabbit. Once you grad college and get a job, I would ask your dad to let me trade that in and including the trade in value, have him put 70% of my car's value as a downpayment and finance the rest myself. That way you have a decent car throughout high school and college and then when you grad, you can get a really nice car. Ie a brand new M3 where you have very reasonable monthly payments (even though the car is very exp).

That's my personal opinion. My parents could've afforded to get me a new car when I got my license, but they didn't. I drove a 14 year old Volvo in high school, a 10 year old Mini van in college, and I was given a 3 year old Camry when I graduated.

I don't think what we tell you really matters though. Since the age when people are going to be MOST impressed by what you drive is high school and undergraduate college. Get what you want. Test drive them all and pick the one you like the most. People are predicting you're going to get into a horrible accident if you get an STi (and other quick cars) because, well, it's easy to see. With that car (I've driven it), it's fun to go fast. Your friends will be urging you to show off the speed. When you do, you become much more accident prone.
