The New Chevy SSR
Yours for only $42,000! what a crock of ****. Who would buy that thing for that much cash? I don't care if it's limited availability or not. So is my jizz, but I don't see people lining up to buy that.

Can you say GM? Isn't the acronym for GM Garbage Mobile? I hate GM products, don't care what anyone else says. OK, so now you know the one make of auto I would NEVER buy in my life. That's N-E-V-E-R!
My wife and I had a fight because she wanted to buy a Chevy Tracker and I said never would I buy a chevy ANYTHING! She wanted it because it looked good to her then I did a search on it and it's stats were crap and every small SUV compared themselves to the Honda CRV so, that convinced her and we got the Honda CRV EX. One of the best resale value vehicles out there. It's also a nice little SUV. Can't get it to go wrong in snow, I even had a tough time getting it to drift in a snow covered parking lot.

I think it looks OK. But having been a recent Prowler owner, I think the market of buyers will be about the same. but I beleive I heard GM will be making about 10K units per year. That's the entire US Prowler production over 6 years and they still have Prowlers sitting at dealers after production stopped in 2002! My perdiction is they will drastically cut back production, resale vaule will drop like a rock and production will only last three years. May buy one then!

I think they're pretty nasty. And there's no way I'd consider spending even $20k on one. I saw my first one on the road yesterday - it was dark blue. They catch your eye because they're different, but then you just realize they're ugly.

I just don't get the whole retro thing on car designs these days (pt cruisers, new mustang, etc.) automotive design is supposed to be timeless-a model for the rest of the design industry to admire and follow! so what are we gonna have in 40 years- retro-retro cars>? and just throw in a engine that takes leaded fuel just cause it is retro>???? (Which would be useless) retro spells lazy- these car designers get paid enough to come up with a style for today!!!!...just my 2 cents

And this pseudo-truck looks good at $25k, but GM cannot do the folding metal roof cheaply enough hence $40k today (but only $30k after rebates and discounts in 2005).

One of my favorite commercials lately.
You see a bunch of kids with bars of soap in their mouths. Then you see a kid leaving the house with his mother, sees the SSR putting its top down, and goes "Holy Sh" then the cut to the kid sitting with soap.
Great concept, and darned hi-larious!

well... it's a +$40 000 (yipes) pretty stylish, although slow, unutile (like, less so than your average sportscar), and well, pretty juvenile version of the El Camino thingie... just power top convertable, and less bed utility, and speed.

it's modeled after the el-camino. It's not meant for speed but to be a 1st year production save sake car. Don't know why you all mock it soo much but i see the same results against other cars as well. Its unusual just like you all claim to be. It's slow and is 40k, well so is the 8 at 30k. Whats the point, it's a truck/car that results in practicality and traditions of excellence. Chevy has been around for a long time, there is reason why GM sold more cars this year than Mazda. So think b4 you talk about a car that is once again dominant.

It's big and heavy (based on the truck chassis), so it doesn't accelerate quickly and it certainly doesn't handle well. Sports car? No. Muscle car? No. It doesn't carry very much and only holds two people - Utility vehicle or crossover vehicle? No.
Sorry, it's not dominant in anything - it's inferior in every category and measure. it doesn't DO anything well other than look different. (The RX-8, which you chose to knock even though it's not comparable in any way to an SSR) IS a sports car (not a drag racer, so it doesn't bother us that more powerful cars are quicker in a straight line) that also has more utility than most sports cars by virtue of real seating for 4 adults.

Gordon

An SSR is an everyday car and you'd be surprise the amount it can hold. It's just like a regular sedan except different in styling and looks. An Rx-8 is not a sports car hate to say. Look up the definition of a sports car. It has nothing to do with speed. Oh and the SSR is low to mid 15 second car so it's not that much behind an 8. Nor is it supposed to be any kind of fast vehicle. It weighs in at a heck of a lot more than an 8 but yet will still keep pace. Sorry but for 30k there are a lot more faster cars that seat 4 people and a better all around cars but whatever you think is correct in your opinion. I've read about the knocking on of evo's and Sti's, etc here. They are excellent cars the subaru's and Mitsu's. I see no reason to mock them either but for some reason you all do. They sit 4 too.

I design cars and the automotive industry is cyclic. There are new themes and concepts that companies ride for awhilea and then they go away and a new one starts. Currently, people want a car w/ a retro feel and look. Some of thes cars appeal to baby boomers and some to the younger crowd who just want a car that looks "different".
Compare it to the sports apparel trend. The stupid "throwback" trend is pretty hot but it will die out very soon.
