There is one at my local dealership. MSRP is $43,000+ the dealer added something like $14,000 for "local markup fee". Grand total of $57,000. You gotta be friggin kidding me. It's different, yes. $57, 000 worth, no... When the novelty wears off, the price they are going for will drop drastically.

did you ever think that maybe it wasnt intended to do any of those things? its a "bling" car. its meant to bring people into the dealerships. people arent gonna save up and buy it for their primary car. theyre going to buy it as a second car to drive on the weekend for fun just like the people who own restored classic cars, hotrods, or other very rare exotic cars.

My wife and I had a fight because she wanted to buy a Chevy Tracker and I said never would I buy a chevy ANYTHING! She wanted it because it looked good to her then I did a search on it and it's stats were crap and every small SUV compared themselves to the Honda CRV so, that convinced her and we got the Honda CRV EX.

I agree that the SSR will be a bust. I think I will wait for the new ZO6/7 Vette coming in about 18 months.

I for one like the SSR. I see it as a 'cruiser' with plenty of potential - you already have a V-8 with plenty of performance potential (and an existing aftermarket), a slick convertible hardtop, and good style. If it was lowered 1-2" and the toneau cover lifted off, It'd be pretty slick - useful and good looking. It's pretty clear this vehicle is the Chevy prowler - there to attract people into the mundane cheby dealership to try and move more trailblazers and impalas.
BTW - for all those blowing the C-6's horn - it really doesn't look all that bada$$ in person. I love vettes, and I was all amped up to see the debut at Detroit in January, but in person (maybe their particular concept in flat-red for crying out loud) it was a letdown. Sure it'll be nicer than the C-5, look more evolutionary, but deserving it's own generation? Ha!

It looks like a big chunk of plastic, it drives like a big chunk of plastic, you see where this is going. Albeit its a $40,000 whatever car its still a piece of GM garbage.

Wow. Another person taking a big global dig at a manufacturer. So I guess GM doesn't or never has made a good car? Hummer H1? '63 Vette? '64 GTO? '04 Caddy XLR? Sure they've turned out some garbage over the years (vega, cavelier, grand-ams, etc) but with those they've also had very good vehicles and a few really stellar ones. I think it's pretty base to go using broad strokes like that to define manufacturers.

The SSR turns my head, I have to admit -- but so does a train wreck or a particularly messy roadkill. I certainly wouldn't spend that kind of money for one. What exactly is this thing trying to be? A convertible? A pickup truck? A retro cruisemobile? There are several other vehicles in each category that do the job better for less.
My bf has a '71 El Camino that I've been urging (well, maybe nagging) him to finish the restoration on. Now THAT thing'll be a blast to drive! Big ol' V8, plenty of torque, plenty of cargo space, and "the real deal" retro. Only thing the SSR has on it is that droptop... but we have three Miatae between us if we get the urge to go topless.

Some of the caddy's are starting to get pretty nice but they are caddy's aren't they supposed to be nice? The crap GM produces far outweighs anything good that they have put out. The corvette is a great workingmans sports car. The caddy's are pretty sweet. Besides that, all of the pontiac, chevy, gm brand stuff is designed to make money and not to be good cars.

...the Aztec is DEAD!!! :D
My beef is when people base their perception of an entire company on one product. My future in-laws have this problem pretty badly. They had a '94 Aerostar that had numerous problems and had some pretty poor quality. Now you can't get them to look at a Ford, nevermind that the 94 Aerostar was a stopgap until the Windstar showed up, and Ford has several brilliant products now (GT comes to mind...), but if I mention the word Ford around their house, here comes the "all they make is garbage, blah, blah, blah..." If people would only use a little context and look at a specific vehicle it might make a little more sense.

In my opinion the Corvette is a great car as is the Camaro and Firebird. All cars with excellent engines, styling beauty, etc. Unfor they are gone but what is coming out is getting better
