I heard a while back... maybe when the article was printed (January) that is was just a reskinned photochop of the old CRX. But then again that's about how concepts tend to work... nobody ever reallly knows until either an auto show or it's released in the public... hmmm. It would be nice to see something like it come back to the US market.

What's been circulated as the 'S1000' most closely relates to a small sporty coupe Honda is doing on its Small Global Basic platform currently under the Fit/Jazz and slipping under the next-generation Mobillo a few years down the road.
The sporty coupe's an odd package, with a huge cargo area behind the two seats. It's said to resemble the "Bulldog" concept vehicle Honda displayed at the 2001 Tokyo Motor Show, minus the latter's loading ramp. But in the Japanese press (notably in Magazine X which is the most accurate source of such information) the nomenclature "S1000" hasn't percolated. The front-runner handle for the two-seater is said to be CRX. Powertrains are rumored to be a new 1000cc four and a version of the 1300 fitted to the Jazz, both with Honda's "7-speed" CVT.

You are correct - however when in manumatic mode they are designed to have 6+ pseudo fixed gears so you can change up/down yourself. The Audi A6 CVT has had this for over a year.
