New Evo X?
Mitsubishi "Concept Sportback" Pics Revealed — Hints at Evo X?
Date Posted 08-11-2005
TOKYO — Mitsubishi has released the first official image of its Concept Sportback, which will be unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
There's not much detail available on the show model, other than it's a five-door hatch, a "vision for a next-generation C-segment (compact) car," riding on a brand-new platform.
However, Japanese press reports suggest this car will preview a sporty version of the forthcoming new Lancer, probably the Evo X.
The Lancer Evo series was launched in the early 1990s to reap some of the fruits of Mitsubishi's rally successes. It seems Evo IX will be the last sedan, and the Evo X will switch to a hatchback body style.
What this means to you: If you are a rally-devoted Mitsubishi fan, you're probably jumping out of your skin with the anticipation of it all.

I think Mistubishi is making the next Evo a hatch in order to adhere to new WRX homologation madates set to effect in 2008 IIRC. Check out WRC when you have a chance. More and more rally hatches seem to be popping up. I'm pretty sure the new WRC rules are the reason why.
BTW...we're still 2 or 3 years from an Evo X so anything we read now, even if from a reputable source, is subject to change.

Why is it so hard to Mitsu to design a nice-looking car and give it good performance? I love the Evo's performance numbers, but the styling is terrible. But put the Evo driveline is a sleek, sporty coupe and they'd get a whole other market. I haven't really liked the looks of a Mitsu car since the gen-2 DSM.

Keep in mind that none of these are "official" photos, just some artist's rendering of what the car might look like. But nose just isn't doing it for me, if I were in the market for an EVO, I think I'd ****** up an '06 EVO IX instead. The IX maybe the last of the "real" EVOs.

I hope Mitsu stays in business in the US, the EVO line has so much history. Ive always been a big EVO fan since I first played Granturismo around 8 years ago. back then I just called it Lancer, because i didnt know of the base car since it wasnt in the US. I have faith in doctor EVO to make EVO X the best EVO ever and destroy the scoobies
