New Federal Gas Guzzler buyout/upgrade Bill?

saw this earlier:

http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com...s-guzzler.aspx

To determine if a car qualifies as an 18mpg gas guzzler, I wonder if they go by official EPA mileage ratings, or real-world data?? <cough>rx8<cough>

Im sure the RX8 will be too new to be eligible for this. I don't see any model years mentioned in the article but I'd think it would only count for older cars. If the 8 does qualify, I could probably get rid of it for a new fuel efficient car until the 16x comes out. maybe a Mazda3? So could you get the 4,500 gas mileage tax credit + the new car sales tax credit? That would be a pretty good deal. That would be close to 6k!

Do that a few times and you've got yourself a brand new car

Taxpayers do not need to fund this.

Yeah, I def don't want them to take more of my paycheck in a few years.

But I could use a motorcycle

I wonder if that counts as a vehicle

I doubt it, they will want to aid the auto companies (and the auto workers unions).

The voucher takes the place of the trade-in value. So unless your RX8 is worth less than 4500 bucks, you might want to reconsider...
