that's 10% of the GT price. If that was an American pickup... sure, but a cute-ute, that's a bit much.
I'm thinking closer to mid $2,000's. That makes it more psychologically appealing.

Reason: Derp
I hope your'e right.
if it's more than 10-15% of the base price, that's going to be a tough sell here.
I think the American public is still leery of diesels BUT I do think there are still some disgruntled VW customers who are used to the benefits of diesels and would jump back into one.
at the right price.
I love Diesels - just not in the VW variety. Would love to have a BMW SportWagon in MT and Diesel/turbo. A CX-3 or -5 in Diesel might be great as well. GM is coming out with the Cruze hatch (wagon) in Diesel in 2017.5 - very interested.
I've never owned a Diesel but am quite intrigued by the idea of a small crossover in diesel. Wannawankel; the CX-3 in diesel would be a mpg beast. I keep reading that the CX-5 is getting 40-50 mpg?! that's crazy to me.
Let's see what this lil SkyActiv D can do once it actually gets here.

Nice find.
Interesting:
According to its data, the average Mazda customer today has a significantly higher income than even five years ago ($80,000 in 2011 vs. $93,000 in 2016).
And my friends the price of base CX-5 starts at $2250 USD more for you guys than old.
An article I read here (in OZ) was saying how you guys are starting to see huge increases in the cost of all imports as the final result of quantitative easing by the past administration, in the end everyone has to pay....the results of printing more money means it is worth less...!
Mazda Japan has also just announced that the CX-5 is about to start production (November 2017) at the Hofu plant (Japan) where previously only the Mazda 3 and 6 were made, this tells me a lot about how SUV's are taking over and people are not buying the Sedans like Mazda 3 and 6 as they used to....half of all their production is almost SUV.
Here’s your spoiler: the result is a triumph. Mazda has taken what I loved about the CX-5 and nudged it in meaningful ways toward the class above. That starts with the design, which is sleeker and more purposeful, but more significantly it impacts key factors which you’ll live with every day.
apparently road noise was a big issue in the 1st Gen so this should make a lot of people happy

I've never used either system but apparently they're a BIG deal to car buyers these days. Lets hope Mazda is true to their word here

you sure about that Ash?
$2250 seems much higher than what I've seen out there. Maybe that includes AWD? (isn't that $1300)
Compared with last year’s front-drive 2.0-liter Sport with an automatic, the $24,985 2017 model is just $910 more

the (immediate) future for many companies is all about CUV so it makes sense that Mazda is taking those steps.
That should bode well for Mazda if this new CX is as good as the initial reviews are stating it is. I think it's easily going to outsell the Mazda 3 and the 6.
Question for you guys: is Apple CarPlay / Android Auto availability a determining factor for your next car purchase?
Like I said above, I've never used it but it sounds like Mazda has heard the masses and is making plans to integrate it into vehicles (even retroactively)

Me personally, no. My girlfriend's 2017 Escape has Android Auto and we've used it a small handful of times. It's very cool for the navigation aspect and being able to question Google at random when you're driving (music, directions, etc), but other than that, we've found little use for it thus far. But the platform is still evolving, so that could always change.
I consider it a non-factor in the purchasing decision. I'd be thrilled if the CX-5/future Mazdas get it, but I wouldn't be heartbroken if they don't.
Reliable phone adaptability is a key point of sale for me. I can tell you that the new UCOnnect (FCA) and Ford systems are hard to initiate pairing and have many issues in staying paired and easy to use while driving.
