Nice this is exactly what they were talking about at the beginning of the SkyActiv program. The Engineers should be proud

saw the article yesterday, thanks for posting it up Ash.

I know Mazda has to build a hybrid and plug in but I see this as a better option in the next 5 to 10 years.
bring on the 50 mpg MX-5.

Is there a reason you couldn't make a homogenious charge compression rotary?

I mean it would be the same ole 13B designer with 14:1 or so compression and perhaps an assymetric rotor face to even out AFR within the chamber. If you can pull it off, higher compression ratio means lower EGTs, faster burn, better emissions and better BSFC, which are things that killed the rotary in the first place.

I guess that's where the 16X was going....

One can hope. Maybe they'll be all "Surprise *******!" on us after like 3 years of extensive testing.

Might be old new nows, but "Fujiwara declined to officially confirm the move to compression ignition, but his wry smile response hinted this suggestion isn't far off the mark."

Interesting, isn't this more or less what a diesel does?

Exactly, but with a more volatile fuel.
