new mazdaspeed miata turbo over rated?
i went out to test one out...
it was a cool litle car that was smooth and handled well but i felt no comparison to the rx8 and for $26000 it felt like a damn ripoff.
i was dissapointed in the power most of all. they claim to have gotten 14's out of these things and i didnt feel it.
whatd u guys think

I dropped by the local Mazda dealership and took a look at the MS Miata. I looked at buying a Miata in 1991. The car did not fit me very well so I passed on it in '91. The new version still does not fit. If they added a tilt wheel, it would help. Yes at $26k, they are getting close to S2000 territory. I see the MS Miata as Mazda's attempt to clean out their parts bin before the next generation of Miata is released.

I test drove one at the Mazda Rev-It-Up event (had to wait 25 mins for a 45 sec drive). It did not feel that quick to me either, but that could be subjective (much like RX-8 misleads one in terms of accereration).

It'll be interesting to read the first article about a tuner cranking up the boost. It's pretty easy to get more performance out of a car that comes stock with a turbo. Everything on this car has been beefed up a bit over the NA version, so the actual potential of this car has yet to be seen.

Miatas are great convertible two seaters. That being said I despise convertibles and need more than 2 seats. $26,000 is getting a little high imo for a car that is really just a toy. Granted its only about 1k more than a regular miata they are all overpriced. They are just such wussie looking cars on the street and if you were ever in an accident you would be screwed. I really won't care too much about the miata until they make it look good, go fast, hardtop etc.
