It was basicly because they were getting to expensive and people stopped buying ludes and started buying the accord and civic instead.

Nice car. I have grown to love my prelude over the last few years. Of course the 3rd gen will always be my favorite by far. I really hate the looks/interior of the 4th gen. 5th gen is a better but more generic looking version of the 3rd gen. I have driven a lot of quick cars (FD's, Turbo II's, Supra Turbo's,) and I never feel let down when I get back in my honda because it offers a light go-kart steering feel that none of the other beefier cars can provide. Even though I would get destroyed in a straight line by pretty much any real sports car, preludes love to rev to redline and are still a blast to drive. I wish honda would make a real prelude sports car 2+2 with rwd and 250hp+ in the form of a vtec v-6 or turbo 4cyl that could directly compete with an Rx-8 (which they would never ever do of course). Honda has failed to improve their styling since the late 80's/early 90's imo and they have no real sportscar in the lineup besides the s2000 roadster, RSX and the unnatainable NSX. In the next couple of years we will see the return of the RX-7, the Supra, and the Skyline (my own predictions) and honda will care less about competing in that group because they sell so many stupid civics and accords. They need something to bring excitement back into their brand and the civic si just aint cuttin it.
