every time a car comes out with fender flairs and side vents people always say "rx8 look-alike." This car looks nothing like an rx8 and i highly doubt mercedes would take any design cues from mazda.

Chances are the side vents are actually functional though.

I wondered this myself. According to what I've found here so far, they are functional. I'd like to see the diagram though.

It is a CG image, but it also is exactly what the Wald body kit will look like for the new W221 S-Class. I saw an add for it in "Only Mercedes", a JDM mag dedicated to Benzes, and the profile picture they showed looked even more RX-8ish.

Jesus H. Christ it looks nothing like an RX8. Mazda didn't invent flares you know.

Well, it's not just the flares. It's the style of the flares, the look of the aggressive front flare and tempered down rear flare both with very similar curves and creases in the metal. Plus the vents behind the front wheel look almost exactly like an RX8 with strakes. This isn't like some arbitrary "omg that car looks kind of wide, it r teh RX8z!!!1!!1", there are tons of similarities with the fenders on this car. Sure the car doesn't look just like an 8, but the fenders are VERY similar.

I thought an official pic of the S Class is already out for awhile now. Saw it like weeks ago, and it look nothing like that one.

Look photoshopped to me, with the flares cut and pasted directly from an RX8.

It's a Mercedes with a Wald Bodykit, or at least artists rendition of the Wald kit on it. That's not how it comes from the factory...

It looks just like any outrageous bodykits people have been making for Mercedes for years. Oversized flares had always a part of that but in this case they are not as exaggerated as the 8 is. The 8 has a more uniformed and prominent design that is very much like the Audi TT.

If the OP had mentioned that it was a WALD bodykit on a Mercedes then we wouldn't have to listen to his jealousy rant.

OK, then how about Ford's version?

http://automobilemag.com/auto_shows/...09_ford_iosis/

Sure Mazdz didn't invent fender flares, but they had the audacity to put them on a production car (I'm not talking retro styled fenders a la PT Cruiser), but on a progressively styled coupe. The fact that fender flares are making it into mainstream is a testament to Mazda designers who proved that you can use them a styling element.

Dang, that looks hella crazy!

Well, just wanted to say whats up RX-Hachi! Just wanted to also let you know that their might be a chance with the importing process. A company is rumored to be working on how to get the FD to US but i'm not sure if its very accurate or reliable. Just thought i should let you know. Also, i'm starting on an FD project soon and trying to make a 93-95 FD close to the spirit r as much as i can. Well, again, just wanted to say hi and all and thanks for bringing reality down on me! you really helped me!
