The MX-5 was perfect as it was. It had, IMO, a timeless design that they could have stretched for almost 10 years probably. The black mustache is stupid and the head lights on that car look similar to every other Japanese car. I don't know what's going on with the 3 horizontal air intakes just above the mustache but they don't fit the car at all. If the new one actually looks like this: FAIL.

I hate the look of the current one.

I like the 04's the best. Especially the mazdaspeed ones.

i agree with you on this one but i have to say, this new one looks pretty awesome, but nothing compared to the 04 generation.

Yeah I have a fondness to the NB's liquid look. But some consider it a bit feminine. YMMV.
What's wrong with the current NC's front end? It looks fine as it is. Why meddle with something that's not broken?

the million dollar question is...

what the heck is up with the 3 coin holders above the front bumper?!!

shouldn't those be "inside" the cabin?

^ yes, that's the one thing that's messing everything up. Other than that, it passes.

Maybe this is the Mazdaspeed Miata? Hence the tri-intakes.

I'm not big on the current design either. I like this better but once again, they've got that black thing up there like the new 8. Not sure what to make of that.

I think it looks pretty good but then again, I think the current version looks far better than the last one. First and second generations looked to much like a woman's car, the current one has more testosterone is legitimately uni-sex now.

Miata needed to look more aggressive and they are clearly moving more and more in that direction and I applaud it. it's styling to fit it's aggressive driving characteristics. My wife has a 07 model and it is a sheer blast to drive and looks great.

Don't like the look of the current one as much as the old style, expecially the MS version, but this looks nicer IMO then the current one, and if the MS has the performance it should, I'll love it even more. Ashame that the last MS version just didn't deliver enough power. If this is the new MS version, initial judgement of looks will fade away if it sports the 2.3 Disi engine and 250+hp and 250+ torque.

Would anyone here be giving the past EVO any credit if it had only 200hp, and ran mid/high 14s in the 1/4? Performance somehow makes a car look better in the eyes of many, so if Mazda makes this Miata the way they can and should, were gonna arguably have the best Miata ever.

I'm willing to put up some money and find the focus group that was put together to help lead the design team in this (both mx-5 and rx-8). That plastic bar just looks fugly, and having it on both cars now just screams corporate grill which is what kills most american cars in terms of looks. Delete that bar and ya might have a winner maybe....
