Of course the front and rear would need some work but I like the body lines....

I like everything except the front. The grille looks g35'ish and the double stacked head lights take away from the cat-like look of the car. Center exhaust is cool and so are the doors. I think they should try to do a retro FB or FD look. Small, compact, with a short wheel base and TURBO the bejebus out of it!

actually, the magazine probably did sell a lot of copies, so i guess they got what they wanted.

Just wanted to add to what R888 said. I had a supplier translate the article that I sent him (screenshots of what was posted here) and here is the reply that I got:
Jack-san,
The article is basically guessing, will the RX-7 come back, and if it will, how would it be.
I'm not really familiar with this topic, so I'm not sure if it'd make sense... but, I tired translating what's written, and below's the result, so please take a look.
---------------------------------
The article explains that there's a rumor that mazda has a plan to start development of new rotary engine beginning 2009.
The writer assumes below are the 3 options of change:
1. Change to make the engine more powerful
2. Change to improve fuel consumption
3. Develop totally new rotary.
As of 1, there's two solutions.
One is to expand rotor width and raise engine displacement, but to do so, eccentric shaft and even housing needs chang, and it'd cost a lot.
Another way is to use turbocharger, but the method confilict option 2(improve fuel consumtion).
So, for new RX-7, the key point is to solve option 1 and 2 together.
The writer sees electric turbo and hydrogen rotary as a hint for the solution.
However using hydrogen as the fuel requires infrastructure building, so this cannot be the option.
What's left is to use electric turbo, so using electric turbo and finding way to improve fuel consumption at the same time is the key for how RX-7 new engine will be.
The writer explains that there's a movement to standardize rotary engine power to 250ps in 2008-2009, and Mazda's blueprint is to set engine with electric turbo as a high-end model, and bring back RX-7 around 2009 to 2010.
And he guesses key design concept is KABURA.
---------------------------------
Hope this adds some useful information to this thread.

The Kabura concept was canceled, but they figured they could use concept car and change it up again & turn it into the new RX7! In the pictures you can see the changes that have been made.

It is extremely early to speculating what the new car will look like.
They always do an artistic impression of an upcoming model. Most of the time the prototypes look nothing like the renderings.
The news was covered on SpeedTV and Road & Track has released some info on a new RX-7 reappearing.
I hope they take a bit of the Kabura and the Negera designs. Both cars look alot better in the flesh.
Still lots of time so we'll see what Mazda decides to do.

When i talked to the Mazda Representative, they said the new major redesign of the RX8 is going to be released around 2009-2010. He also said they have no interest in force induction unless it is efficient and practical at the same time. They are more interested in making practical fun to drive cars (which is almost the opposite of the 7 since it wasn't practical or efficient [unless it was the FB or n/a FC]). The representative didn't like the idea of going back to the days of the & either, lol.
Oh well. We'll remember the 7.

Anyhow, I've heard about this rumor for years now.. and Some said 3 years ago that RX-9 will come out. And about few months ago, I've heard that they were testing a rotary based car that will keep up or out handle the new skyline from Nissan..
My guess is that mazda will come up with 3 rotor based engine that will drink gas like there is no tomorrow!
If its 3 rotor based 7 and makes over 400HP (N/A), I'll buy the new one!

- No mspd RX8
- Ugly flow design is the future
- No Rx7
- No rotary powered Kabura

With that "RX-7" and Kabura side by side in post #36 it's easy to see that the "RX7" is photoshopped. From that exact picture of the Kabura too. The reflections on the body panels show the same things.

I didn't spend alot of time reading it, but what caught my eye was what looked like the concept of using an "electric powered turbo"? O_o. . I'm not sure how that's going to work but in the artical I clearly saw "electrical assist turbo producing 350ps!"

i may be a newb to owning a rotary but i just dont think mazda will go as far to make a new production 7... i think ford kinda effed that up for mazda way back when they partnered up but i would deff like to see a coupe 9.. triple rotor maybe
