In 2 years, I'll most likely be ready for a new engine. A 16x and corresponding tranny may be around the cost of an FI kit, so that may be the move for the 8 at that point. I plan on keeping mine, and purchasing or leasing a 9 as a DD.

If (Again, the big IF) Mazda is actually going to green light these two cars, they will not both be sports cars (IMHO), so some will strongly dislike the 9, although I suspect Mazda can make it super sexy. All they need is something to make the Lexus IS envious. Top people at Mazda have said in the past (Recently) that they did not see the possibiltiy of 2 rotary sports cars.
The job (In my mind) for the RX7 is to CRUSH the Toyota FT86 and harm the Z and Genesis coupe while it's doing that. A bunch of hp is not necessary for that but the correct power to weight and sex appeal will get the job done.
Paul.

Intriguing! Brave! Mazda hasn't had a rotary true-4-seater since my 1978 RX-4. When I was shopping for new wheels my first look-see was the G-35 Infinity coupe. (The tractor engine they installed in that thing killed the deal for me). The form of the Accord/Altima/Solara 2-doors is attractive to me, but the driving dynamics with FWD suck. (I refuse to buy any Honda due to unacceptable levels of road noise and rumble.) I love my "8", but the rear seats are barely useable and the panarama view out the side typical of a 2-door is missing. I'm hoping the RX-9 is something of a rotary Quattraporte. 7 or 9? I'll take one each! (In my dreams) (NO SMILEY FACE FRONT GRILLS PLEASE!)

i also will see very well a rx9 with some hybrid power.......but, if the rumors of diesel rotary are true, hybrid is not necessary....

The 9 won't be a sports car in the pure sense of the word, but I wouldn't be surprised if they plan on making it a GT the likes of the 335i, or G37 w/ Mazda handling. As long as the suspension isn't soft as baby ****, this car would be very appealing, though not a 'true' sports car.

And as we know the more Safety is Mandated, the more "Features/Luxuries" consumers want, and the more weight Americans put on, the Heavier our cars get...to fit ALL of this.
Most can get a performance and gas economy boost by either, removing ALL the unnecessary Tools, Boxes, Blankets, and JUNK in their Cars Trunk (boot) and Interior....and go on a Jenny Craig/Weight Watchers diet.

I hope they don't use the 16x on a FWD layout. That would be a tragic story indeed. I am assuming it will be something to compete with BMW 3 series, and Infiniti G37, and other cars like that which are all RWD, so I have hope the new mazda would be as well.

What makes you people think it will be called a rx9??? There's already been a RX-9. So logically next in line should be a RX-10.
