New Sports Car Avalanche???
Has anyone noticed a plethora of sports cars coming to the market as well updated versions of current ones???
On the new introduction front we have the Toyota FT-86 and Subaru with its own version of the car. Subaru is said to be so excited about their version that they are benchmarking it against the Porsche Cayman. Porsche and Audi will be introducing competing versions of a new baby Porsche. Not much is known about the car so far. There is also the Alpha Romeo 4C which is set to come to the states as well and is based on the Lotus Elise.
Speaking of the Elise, a third gen Elise is due in 2011 or 2012. Weight is rumored to be up to a portly 2400 lbs, but is supposed to be much more civlized (as well as more expensive). Alpha claims the 4C will weigh under 2,000 lbs (we'll see what the production version weighs).
Of the group of new cars, the FT-86 looks to be the most production ready. It is also the least interesting of the group. The pics released by Lotus of the new Elise look very promising.
Mazda, IF it introduces a new rotary in the 2013 time frame would be bringing the car out in the middle of all this. Too soon to tell how good any of these cars will be or what their pricing will be, but Mazda better bring its "A" game. My guess is that more than one of these cars will end up being very good. If I were a betting man, my money would be on the Elise with the big question being pricing. My fear for Mazda is that the sales failure of the RX-8 will make them build more of a grand tourer this time around as opposed to a true sports car. Truly hope I am wrong about this.

I'm just the messenger! Never said I believed it! LOL! Now it will be interesting to see how Subaru positions its version. After all, they do have the STI. If they position this car above the STI, we will know Subaru is serious about the car. But even then, I would expect the car to give the new baby Cayman a run for its money, not the Cayman itself.

Oh I wasn't ribbing you, just rolling my eyes at Subie trying to hype this car to be more than it is. Subaru has already said it will have a non-turbo 2.0L engine, so I have a hard time getting excited about it...
