As far as I know, they bought % of them from Ford and they're funding money. They don't mess with anything else, but anyhow, Volvo is doing so good after they bought them.

With government requirements for bumper height, crash survival, fuel economy, etc., there are less variations available than there were even 20 yrs ago.
