No not new to the sport I have been a faithful Ferrari fan since the mid 90's when I first started really paying attention to the sport. I used to watch F1 on satellite in Italian at my grandfather's house when I was younger also. It's very easy growing up in an Italian family with family from very near Monza and Fiorano to have a sweet spot in my heart for the team.
I think Alonso is a great driver but has a HORRIBLE attitude and shows little if any support for his teammate who is kicking his ***. I do appreciate what Ron Dennis has managed to do with their team this year. It's nice to see great racing now that Schumi has retired.
Kimi is a talented driver but he shows little or no emotion even when he's just won a race.
Massa is talented and I think he will always be very well respected because he truly loves what he does regardless of weather he's in first place or last place.

What does liking Ferrari have to do with being new? I like Ferrari and im not new either. I like the Mclaren cars, they are so beautiful, and hamilton is awsome too, he is a true high class, high talent driver but he does have a boost because the mp4-22 is very fast. If he started in a spyker im sure we would not hear too much about him. Massa is my favorite driver though. He is very hard working and has grown a ton as a driver in the last year. I would love to see f1 in vegas, laguna seca, or road atlanta. I went to indy this year and im depressed that there will be no usgp but maybe ill find my way over to europe for a race or 2 if I just so happen to be studying abroad next year haha.

Last time I killed the F1 thread by posting about my recent experience at the US GP, but I will try again...We ate at the OceanAire Seafood Room in Indy on Saturday night before the race. Felipe Massa and Giancarlo Fisichella were both there with their "people." Fisichella sat at the table beside us. Ecclestone was sitting at the table with Felipe Massa. I was suprised how personable and approachable they both were. My buddy, who is a long time Ferrari fan, had the opportunity to exchange words and shake hands with Massa. He said Massa was very gracious and thanked him for his kind words. Fisichella allowed another person from my group to take a picture with him at his table. I was looking forward to trying the restaurant again next year.

OceanAire is a great seafood place, one of the best in the city. I work in the building that adjoins the restuarant.
I am certainly sorry to see F1 go away. It was the only US race along with an estimated $100 million economic impact to the city.
After all these years you would think that someone would have been able to figure out a broadcaster and a sponsor. It really is about the money. Tony George spent some $80 to ready the track for F1 and I doubt that investment was every recouped. F1 never caught on to the extent it need to in part because of multiple missteps and fiascos over the years.
Looking forward to another signature race though with MotoGP coming to IMS in Sept. 08.

F1 would likely use new Indy layout
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/60872
By Jonathan Noble Tuesday, July 17th 2007, 09:07 GMT
The new Indianapolis MotoGP track that was unveiled on Monday night will almost certainly be used by Formula One if it returns to the American venue, as predicted by autosport.com earlier this year.
Indianapolis has designed a new 16-turn road course at their Speedway to hold its first motorcycle race since the inaugural event in August 1909.
Although there will be no United States Grand Prix at the venue next year, after Indianapolis failed to agree a new deal with Bernie Ecclestone, there are hopes that the event can return in the longer term future.
And Indianapolis Motor Speedway president Joie Chitwood has confirmed that the new layout, first revealed by autosport.com, has been signed off by the FIA for use by F1.
"One of the things that we did moving forward is we, and I'm not sure if it might be the only time, but we had a joint FIM/FIA inspection," said Chitwood.
"So any changes that are being made to the road course should Formula One ever return, we still could use those changes for Formula One."
Although Chitwood did not elaborate on whether the plan would be for F1 to run anti-clockwise like the bikes, it is thought that circuit chiefs are keen for all their major events to run in the same direction.

This would cut the speeds down alot.

I would plan you time there around it. I saw F1 at Silverstone when I studied abroad in college (they also ran the F1 cars through downtown London streets, which was awesome). I am still kicking myself for being lazy and not making it up to Spa though. I really hope F1 makes it back there.

Honda urge for alternative US GP venue
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/60902
By Steve Cooper and Pablo Elizalde Thursday, July 19th 2007, 11:07 GMT
Honda team boss Nick Fry says it is critical for the Japanese manufacturer that Formula One returns to the United States as soon as possible.
The Indianapolis Motor Speedway announced last week that it will not host the US Grand Prix in 2008, meaning the race will not be on the calendar for the first time since 2000.
However, circuit officials left the door open for a return in the future.
Fry admitted the absence of the American race is a significant loss for Honda and he urged Formula One bosses to find an alternative as soon as possible.
"We're very disappointed indeed by the loss of Indy," said Fry. "The US is one of the most important markets *and a global property such as Formula One needs to be represented in the biggest market where motor manufacturers are key players.
"If we can't go back to Indy, we would urge an alternative venue as quickly as possible. Even if there were two or three races - one of each coast *- we would still be very keen. It's a critical matter."

Better choice would be down the streets of Las Vegas or Long Beach/LA , Miami, or even Detroit again (although lets face it... the American Mid-west is mostly home to domestics and not a great choice for any non USA based racing).
A street course in a major US coastal City or near coastal (like vegas)... you know some place where they actually buy Mercedes and Ferrari's and BMWs. That's the ticket.

Not enough local support for Sears Point/Infinion. Not enough space to support setting up all the team area's.

Bringing F1 back to Long Beach would be interesting. But I bet there is even less space there than Sear's Point

Have you not been there? There is a huge area in the back. It might not be as big as Indy, but more than enough for F1s needs. They get by with room to spare when the Rolex cars (Daytona prototype and GT), IRL, and usually one or 2 other support races come in the same weekend.

no way to support that many people coming into the area, well alone all the teams and media people as well.
just Nascar at infinion pushes it too capacity.
