IMO,reflective dark red.

Click on the "color chart" on the left hand side of the page to see better colors.

I got the reflective,no LiquiDome.

Rhawb you sure you could handle something with that much HP?

Going to the GTO from the 8 only raised my premium $9 annually.

I thought about getting a manual rx-8, but the resale value, reliability, and lack of power suck. Not to mention that Ford turns everything it touchs into crap one way or another.

I got GMS pricing and a lot of rebates. My payments are the same and I have already gotten more compliments in the GTO than I did in the Mazda.

All of these magazines and online reviews knock it for its looks and what not, but then everyone I have shown the car to and taken for a ride, love it!

I am also getting the same gas mileage (better if I don't floor it everywhere) without the oil consumption.

This may as well not be a GM product. Holden really did a hell of a job and the quality is like nothing out of Pontiac ever before. It feels and rides more like a CTS-V.
I like lay-z-boys....when I want to take a nap.

I've always liked the GTO's looks.

It's a quality car, and it's funny how RX-8 owners like GTOs. And its ironic that GM's best cars are not American made.

I know the Auto has less power than the MT, but I was stating that it is still a shitload less than my GTO. Any RX-8 lacks power to me unless you spend thousands upon thousands to juice it up.

My apologies...being the huge Chevy/Corvette fan I am I shouldn't have missed that. I think the 6 in the name threw me off, I must've been thinking 6 litre. And I thought you were comparing 8s, again, my apologies! You are correct....8s lack power alltogether...to be honest I'm just driving an 8 because it's one of the coolest cars on the road right now and the new Camaro isn't out yet! Cannot wait for that beast.

More power, torqe, faster.. yes. 400 HP is beastly!

So how does it compare in handeling considering it is 900 pounds heavier (though it is fairly well balanced at 55 front / 45 rear).

I can obviously feel the added weight under aggresive turning, but it is pretty nimble. It's also very easy to swing the back end out which is a ton of fun.

Handling is good but a completely different driving style than the 8.
If you try to drive the GTO like you drive the 8, you're not "getting it".
In the GTO, you have to pay a lot of attention to setting up the suspension and getting the line right for the turn. Once you have it, you more or less steer with the your right foot, and with the power, you exit the turn extremely fast. In the 8, its more forgiving and you can enter the corner faster. But, if you don't get it right, you'll never get that speed back when you're exiting. If you watch Grand Am Cup racing, you can really see the difference in what's fast for each car.

Oh, and its actually 725 pounds heavier, but who's counting?

Curb weight of 6speed GTO is 3725 lbs, so I'm saying the RX8 is an even 3000.
Considering the power to weight ratios is interesting
3725 / 400hp = 9.3 lbs/hp
3000 / 238hp = 12.6 lbs/hp

Anything under 10 lbs/hp is pretty damn good. The 05-06 Mustang GTs aren't close to 10. The SRT8 charger weighs in at 4180. Now THAT'S heavy dammit, but it's still sub 10 lbs/hp. The new BMW M6 is 3909lbs with 500hp, and it's scoots through the slalom at 69.5mph with .88G's on the skidpad... cars are simply getting heavier nowadays - the 8 is nice exception.
BTW, I'm not saying the GTO is in the same league as the M6. I'm just saying you can get a comparitively heavy car to make some nice numbers and handle well. The BMW M6, SL65 AMG and the Aston Martin DB9 are good examples.

ick...

did you really name The BMW M6, SL65 AMG and the Aston Martin DB9. in the same posts as a GTO...

The GTO is the econo line for the LS...

You get the power but pay the price in looks and handleing.

So would you spend 4k in power for the 8 or 4k in modifications to make the GTO handle and look less fugly..

Man, I sure wish I was older than 22. =T

Then I'd smoke you and your automatic GTO with my manual GTO.

While I've never driven one of the new Goats, I must admit they are growing on me. That interior is killer too!
How's your gas mileage? I'm curious to see if it stacks up to the 8's?

I named a lot of cars, and I think I was perfectly clear that I wasn't placing the GTO at that level. I was simply saying that a heavy car can handle, and gave some best in class examples, that's all.

Spending just $4K wouldn't get you the straight line performance of the GTO. The test results from the Car and Driver PTP turbo article prove that.

It's all good dude, sometimes it takes alot more reasons to keep the RX-8 than it does to trade it. At least you moved on to something good.

Average is 18-19 mpg (by the computer) when I'm putting my foot in it, and I see a shade over 26 mpg average on highway trips. Throw it in sixth and the big V8 trundles along, sipping the gas. The LS2 does not have "displacement on demand" technology, however.

Hey Tigger and Rhawb, the automatic GTO is actually faster to 60 and the 1/4 mile than the manual due to gearing and less gear changes. Also, launching the manual with the T/C off is really hard to launch.

If pontiac would do away with all the leather and fancy stuff to cut weight and save $$$ I'd be all over this car.

But you got something worse.

Hey, if you like it better, good for you and congrats. But if "double the power" and quarter-mile times are important to you, why did you get an 8 in the first place?! See, what you wanted is what's called a "muscle car," which the RX-8 is not.

I understand. It was your first car. You bought a USDA prime Porterhouse when what you really wanted was a Quarterpounder with Cheese.
