Well if its going to be a 911 competitor, it better be priced accordingly!.. because the current NSX on the way out is like 40% more expensive than the 911... Always did think the NSX was a tad too much.

Further, if they put a V6 in the S2K.. it would be impressive.. true.. but i Think it might shoot prices up too high for that vehicle (eventhough its probably worth it). From a Business standpoint they'd be better off with a completely new model.

At one time there were rumors of a first honda v8. The NSX would be a HUGE HIT with a v8 in her. Time will tell but I will say this, the NSX is the most reliable supercar ever produced period.

definately even after supercharging or turboing they still got that honda reliability. i'd love to look into the engine bay of my 90,000 dollar exotic and see in big red lettering HONDA MOTOR CORPORATION with a big "H" emblem right in the center.

This would be nice.

Fukui said his firm will launch a next-generation sports car, equipped with a newly-developed V10 engine, in the next 3-4 years, to replace its NSX model.

Edit: Blue Eyes, you beat me by two minutes...

Check this out...

at http://www.vtec.net/news/news-item?news_item_id=380991, Honda CEO Takeo Fukui is quoted as saying:

"We are now focused on the development of a new model to succeed the NSX for a new era. We would like to debut a new super sports car equipped with a V10 engine in 3 to 4 years. Please look forward to seeing the NSX successor."

V10...

After seeing what Honda has been able to do with I4 and V6 engines, I'm really looking forward to a V10 powered Honda exotic.

I would love to see this. You would think that with F1 moving to V8's, that's what we would see in the NSX replacement. But, 10 is cool, I guess :D

I am thinking it will be something along the lines of the M5/M6's new engine.

with hondas power efficiency that v10 should be a damn fast one considering some of their fours have almost as much power as some v6's and modded can have v8 power.

That will be a sweet car I think. Like a Ford GT except cheaper and actually reliable.

This is totally sick. Honda just threw a wrench into the plans of Nissan and Toyota to produce the next generation GTR and Supra, respectively. I am estimating a MR layout with a V10 VTEC engine producing in excess of 450 HP in a chassis that weighs only 1280kg. I don't think the GTR and the Supra can compete with that sort of power to weight ratio.

I don't even want to get started on Mazda. Mazda has nothing in the wings to compete with this new NSX. A 3-rotor Renesis will be Mazda's best bet, but it is still going to pale in comparison with Honda's V10 engine, considering Honda's technical prowess in tuning NA engines and their VTEC technology.

Even car-makers like Porsche and Ferrari will have to sit-up and take notice at the potential new threat.

The CEO only uttered 3 lines on the new NSX, but what an impact it made to the automotive world.

Highly unlikely that it will be that light with a V10. 1280kg is about the weight of the old FD RX-7. The current NSX with a V6 weighs in at 3153 lbs. About 150 lbs more than the RX-8.

If Mazda does come out with a 4th gen RX-7 to battle with the new Supra, GT-R, and NSX, it won't match them in raw HP, but it will surely be the lightest of the group.

alright i have to step up and say this but im not just directing this at you

when has mazda EVER tried to match competitors in the power battle or who will have the best power/weight or the most raw power, biggest engine, etc. obviously they'll be miles behind honda in power if they do a V10 MR NSX or whatever but in the end mazda isn't even trying to compete they let the cars sell themselves, their cars are unique from other japanese cars like no other manufacturer, and they're sports cars are highly respected among astute car enthusiasts in japan and can keep up with its competition even though usually have much less power than them.

^I'm not quite sure what you're trying to say, it seems like we're saying the same thing. I never said Mazda would try to match the NSX on power. My point was that I doubt the NSX with a V10 will be as light as MazinKaiser thinks.

Mazda has always been very Lotus like in trying to keep their cars lightweight and nicely balanced. But you are off on one point, Mazda in fact did use the NSX as its benchmark car when it developed the 3rd gen RX-7. If Mazda does decide to build a 4th gen RX-7, you can't tell me the new Supra, GT-R and NSX won't have an influence.

give me proof that they used the NSX as a benchmark for the FD. mazda is noted for having their cars benchmarked after european cars more than their fellow japanese competitors, ie the FC was japan's porsche 944, the FB was styled after the lotus elan, etc

Ask and you shall receive. This is documented in the RX-7 book by Yamaguchi & Dinkel. Here is a scan of part of the chapter where they discussed how the NSX was used as a benchmark car during performance testing & tuning back in 1991.

Everyone speaks of Vtec like it's some amazing one of a kind thing...Nothing against Honda, they build fabulous engines. But Vtec =VVTL, plenty of carmakers use it in one way or another.

The next NSX will likely not put up the numbers of its competition. That's not Honda's way. It should handle very well, and rev high though. Either way, it's well outside of my price range.

"considered a worthy opponent"

huh...doesn't sound like mazda was too intimidated by honda...anywho their both nice cars and are truely the best of the japanese muslce cars because they are most well balanced

yes sure lts of companies have variable valve timing systems but honda's is by far the best for performance uses.

i like to call my auxillary ports my rotary V-TEC

Ok, I'm not teh best at explaining things. To the best of my knowledge, VVT only alters the cam timing, but VTEC allows for changing valve duration and lift as well. I'd say just from numbers that Honda's system is better. 240 out of 2 liters as opposed to 180 out of 1.8. Maybe someone else can explain better
