Yeah, they took P2! The engine ran for 4 hours, which is pretty good!
Also the butanol Dyson was pretty fast, perhaps they turned up the power too.

The Laguna Seca race is on right now. Less than an hour into it and a Dyson Mazda is out with mechanical problems. Big surprise there (sarcasm). The last race they only won because rain came down and red flagged the race before they had a chance to break down. Not today. Weather didn't win the race for them. At least one of the cars is left but it's getting passed like it's standing still.

Watched some of it, its tape delayed. The butanol car showed some speed but got into an accident. They do plan to run with bio-butanol next year, hopefully it is better for the engine. Mazdaspeed has already confirmed to be back with BP + Dyson next year.
The gasoline car went out with electrical problems I think.
Also for next year, the LMP classes will be combined, and the current LMP2s get a bigger restrictor.
Anyways, I am still hoping for rotary power to return... I fell asleep watching the race.
edit: the gasoline car went out with mechanical problem as RG said.
wow not again!

I normally like to see the corvettes race but they were idiots today. Both cars made stupid moves and crashed as a result. I'm sure its frustrating to have the "faster" car and not win, but cutting the corners and bumping people out of the way is just silly.

I completely blame Porsche for that one. Yes they were bumping each other the entire race. The bump from the Corvette on the last corner wasn't any worse than anything else they did in the rest of the race. However Porsche deliberately putting the Corvette in the wall was just plain bullshit from a dumbass baby of a driver. That was poor sportsmanship and a disgusting display that reinforces why Porsche is a bunch of little German crybabies that should stick to building overpriced cars for overly rich tightwads rather than trying to forcably win by taking others out. Typical Germans. F**K Porsche! Someday when they retire the 911 and race their good car, maybe they'll be able to hold off the Corvette better. I remember the battle between Porsche and Ferrari at one race in the ALMS a few years ago. It came down to basically the same thing. Bumping the whole race. Porsche tried to purposely wipe the Ferrari out but just couldn't quite get it done and lost to the Ferrari. That one ended as it should have.
The Porsche P2 guys a couple of years ago were arrogant little pussies too. In their race here in Houston, they were working on the car in the paddock area before the race. Everything was out in the open where everyone could see it. I snapped a picture of the intake manifold. When the flash went off, one of the crew immediately threw a towel over the intake and gave me a dirty look. Who the hell wants to copy a Porsche design? Certainly not me. At least that car had the engine between the front and rear wheels rather than holding the rear bumper on. Porsche can kiss my *** and go to hell. I hope Corvette purposely puts them in a wall next season at about 200 mph and I hope they do it in a way that will completely destroy their car. It would serve them right.

after watching the video several times, I agree that the Porsche caused the wreck. The vette banged into the pit wall pretty hard before turning sideways the other way and into the wall.

looks like i came late into the game. but yah , i like both teams equal (more of the BMw fan and aston). but i do feel the vette deserved it.
its like, say guy A. slaps Guy B.
should guy b slap back?
to me its up to GUy b, if he wants to punch the living day lights out of guy A, or slap him back. same with the end of this race.
not saying that flying lizard was right. But just saying

A little late now but that Laguna Seca race was awesome (just finished watching). Racing is racing but I think the move by Jorg at the end went a little too far.

GOOD NEWS GUYS
turn on your TV June of 2010.
the Dyson Racing team earned an automatic invite to LeMans!!
Mazda is back at LeMans!, if they pass up on this opportunity, i will never watch Mazda's piston ALMS effort again.

That's awesome news. All they have to do now is figure out how to make their car live for another 20 hours!
#321
The MZR motor is junk, it won't make it past the first hour and a half of the 24 hour race. If they cant use the rotary, they need to use a beefed up KLZE motor, that is a ringer of a motor that Mazda made! Dependable, revs high for a piston motor and has some history behind it and it even comes in a SC version. MZR is FTL!

The motor will definitely blow up under full throttle down the mulsanne straight.
But that is the motor they will use for next year's car. I will be VERY suprised if they install another engine in the car. I have no idea what AER is doing. They have been using the same engine for more than a decade, and they can't get it right. They "said" its a clean sheet design for the MZR, but I don't believe it.
The rotary will be a much better choice for LeMans (for the reliability).

Oh you must meen in F1, because in ALMS they have been pretty quiet , now Porcshe on the other hand they have been whining in almost every disciplin of racing.
They always cry foul if they lose a event, the worse was when the Speedsource cars won the Rolex 24 at Daytona 2007. We can thank Porcshe for all the current rotaries on the field to have lower rev limit after that win .
