I just got an email at work that the Dyson team is coming here on Friday 2/20. I get to meet the team. It doesn't say if the #16 car will be along. You know I will be wearing my Mazda hat.

its so beautiful

The current dominant force at the Le Mans race has just released the first picture of its newest competitor. The Audi R15 TDI differs from the R10 TDI which reigned supreme and virtually unchallenged in 2006 and 2007.

The first race scheduled for the new challenger is the 12-hour race at Sebring in Florida on the 21st of March. This is where it will become apparent whether the first completed tests of the prototypes were successful or if more involving work still needs to be done.

Head of Audi Motorsport Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich said: "So far the R15 TDI has performed as we expected. Now it must also prove itself in race conditions. Sebring is a particularly hard race and is therefore perfectly suited to reveal even the smallest of weaknesses."

The Audi team has had good runs at Sebring. It claimed a podium at its first race there back in 1999 and the won the race in 2000.

I'm waiting to see how long it's going to take for the Audi haters to appear? Everyone always seems to hate the best.

Well, I went to the event. There wasn't a car. There was a video of last years race at Lime Rock with the P2 roadster. There were 2 IRace simulators of a Formula Mazda on Lime Rock Park. Chris Dyson, Ben Devlin, Butch Leitzinger and Mario Franchitti were there to sign autographs.

Front

Back

I have about a dozen of these to hand out tomorrow at a local meet (minus the signatures).

And I got to talk, one on one, to John Doonan Manager of Mazda Motorsports Team Development. He is the guy from Mazda that gets his face on TV when the RX8 is winning at Daytona. He is going to email me some pictures of the Dyson cars that haven't been released yet. He told me the key to getting the car competitive is Michelin tires, which Dyson has a contract with. Stay tuned.

The Audi car looks cool. Appreantly the nose of the car doesnt house a rad, I think Audi is replicating the Ferrari F1 nose of last year, there could be a wing element inside the nose.

Not ALMS, but here some info on the LMS

http://www.planetlemans.com/2009/02/...da-lola-b0880/
Following on from the team’s successful shakedown of the new Mazda Lola B08/80 Coupé earlier this month at Snetterton, in snow and fog, RML AD Group headed south for the sun of the Algarve for the squad’s first intensive track test of the 2009 season.

In conjunction with Michelin, RML had booked the two-day test (February 18-19) at the exciting Autódromo Internacional do Algarve, half an hour north of the picturesque holiday resort of Portimão. A number of other Le Mans Series and FIA GT teams accepted an invitation to share the test, and all benefited from two days of perfect weather and ideal track conditions.

RML’s Le Mans 24 Hours and Le Mans Series winning driver team of Thomas Erdos and AD Group CEO Mike Newton covered a total of nearly 200 laps of the 4.7 kilometre circuit across the two days. Team Manager Phil Barker declared the test to have been a great success. “It’s all gone exceptionally well,” he said. “We managed to fulfil virtually everything we’d had scheduled and worked on getting everything in line with the new engine and aero package. We made changes overnight on Wednesday that allowed us to work on collecting specific data for this track, and I think we’ve achieved a very good foundation for when we return here in August.”

Since the circuit was completed in October last year, the Autódromo has hosted just two major meetings; the final rounds of the Superbike World Championship and the Spanish GT Championship in November, yet the track has already acquired a reputation for being one of the best-designed and most challenging in motorsport.

“Some really clever imagination has gone into the creation of the track,” suggests Thomas Erdos. “The surrounding landscape is the key to the circuit’s appeal. The layout reflects the style of the local roads, which are also a delight to drive! So many racetracks are flat and featureless, but this one exploits the contours of the land to create a circuit that is both physically demanding and technically complex. The changes in elevation are, at times, quite extreme, and will in themselves add their own element of challenge, but I believe this will be a fantastic circuit to race on, especially at night.

The third round of the 2009 Le Mans Series will be staged at the Algarve circuit at the beginning of August, and will feature the season’s only night race. The start is scheduled for 8:00pm, running through to around two o’clock in the morning. More immediately, however, RML AD Group is preparing for the official ACO Le Mans Series test at the Paul Ricard circuit in France on 8th and 9th March.

For the first time, the Paul Ricard test will be open to the public, with a limit of just 4000 tickets being made available, and giving access to the circuit’s new spectator grandstand.

A night race is good, but a 2:00 A.M. finish of the 1,000 km of Algarve? The experience of it could be special like the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

More Lemans news (not alms)

http://www.worldcarfans.com/9090226....ete-in-le-mans

Porsche's Motorsport division just announced they will take two Porsche RS Spyder racecars to the 24 Hours of Le Mans race held in June. The cars will be run by two different teams, Japan's NAVI Team Goh and Denmark's Essex Squad.

Porsche will also provide drivers Sascha Maassen from Germany and Emmanuel Collard from France to assist the teams. Together, they hope to make a repeat performance of last year's RS Spyder double victory in the LMP2 class. Maassen was one of the RS Spyder drivers during last year's race, and this year he'll be teamed up with Japanese Le Mans driver Seiji Ara and Formula 3 racer Keisuke Kunimoto. As NAVI Team Goh they will stay with the same winning Porsche RS Spyder tuned by Van Merksteijn Motorsport that brought them good luck last year. The car's 3.4-liter V8 engine has been brought down from its peak of 476 hp to 440 hp due to the new air-restrictors required by Le Mans. Regulations also changed the size and shape of the rear wing and underbody.

Essex driver Collard is flanked again by Denmark's Casper Elgaard and Kristian Poulsen. Together they brought a second place finish in the LMP2 class of the race.

Both teams can be seen during their Le Mans performance from 13 to 14 June 2009.

I find it interesting that BP is sponsoring an Mazda ALMS car, where it is a UK based company. I would think that they would be involved with the ELMS series.

CHRIS DYSON JOINS RML FOR 2009 24 HOURS OF LE MANS

Chris Dyson will be returning to the 24 Hours of Le Mans driving the No. 25 RML LMP2 Mazda Lola Coupe (the car pictured by Alfy above) in the June 13th and 14th classic sports car race. Dyson is no stranger to the great endurance race having driven a Dome-Judd at the 2004 race with reigning FIA Sportscar champion Jan Lammers and finishing seventh, the highest-placed American.

In preparation for the 77th running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans on the Circuit de la Sarthe, Dyson will be participating this weekend in the official ACO test at the Circuit Paul Ricard at Le Castellet in southern France. Dyson will be partnering regular RML drivers Mike Newton and Thomas Erdos in the team's Mazda Lola B08/86 Coupe.

"I am thrilled to be returning to Le Mans and representing Mazda with RML," said Dyson. "Mazda is the only Japanese manufacturer to have won this prestigious race and I look forward to being part of their tradition at Le Mans. RML has a long-term history at this track and know how to mount a top-notch winning effort. The team has consecutive class victories with Erdos and Newton sharing the winning car in the LMP2 category at Le Mans in both 2005 and 2006."

"Ever since Mazda began racing, endurance racing in general and Le Mans in particular has been a key element. Our historic win in 1991 still resonates with fans and Mazda employees around the world. We're thrilled to have RML and other teams running the Mazda MZR-R at Le Mans this year. We're also pleased to see the great cooperation between Dyson Racing and RML. This shared wisdom should help both teams," noted Robert Davis, Senior Vice President, Product Development and Quality, and the man responsible for Mazda's North American motorsports operations under the MAZDASPEED Motorsports Development banner.

"Having Chris Dyson join the team for the Le Mans 24 Hour race is really positive news," stated RML Team Manager Phil Barker. "Dyson Racing has been testing their own Mazda Lola LMP2 Coupe in the USA, so Chris will already be familiar with the car, but he also brings with him his considerable experience from the fiercely competitive American Le Mans Series."

Dyson Racing runs two Mazda-powered Lola Coupes in the American Le Mans Series. A mainstay of North American sportscar racing the past 26 years, the team has won seventeen championships and sixty-one victories. The ALMS will celebrate its 100th race with the season-opening 12 Hours of Sebring on Saturday, March 21. Both Dyson Racing cars finished on the podium at last year's 12 Hour of Sebring with Chris third in LMP2.

Mazda is the brand choice of road racers across North America. On any given weekend, there are more Mazdas on the road-race-tracks of America than any other brand. You will see MX-5 Miata, RX-8, MAZDA3, MAZDA6, RX-7 and other vintage Mazda models because every Mazda has the Soul of a Sports Car.
------------------------------------------------------------------
Since Chris Dyson is the leader of Dyson Racing, is he exploring the possibility of competing there next year?
