Wars have started over less...
I certainly hope that this is the case with Nick. He is an excellent road driver, style perfectly suited for Mazdas... fearless.

Yes there is a 3rd car but SpeedSource will not be running it at the track. It will be run by a group of guys on their own who bought it. they are having SpeedSource shop maintain it.

Watching the GS / ST classes first race of the year. WAYYYY too much GS coverage vs ST, but #66 RX-8 is leading at the moment (not live, haven't seen results yet).
Really interesting to see the 8s and the MX-5s vs the rest of the class, and even the GS class. They brake so much later, and carry so much more corner speed. Down the back stretch of Daytona, they are getting passed like crazy by the GS class, but then get held up through the bus stop by the GS mustangs.
At one point, one of the Freedom Motorsports MX-5s passed 5 or 6 cars under braking into turn 1, 2 of them GS class, and another one through turns 1 and 2 twists, before getting passed back on the straights.
Quite interesting to see.

It's really odd how many issues some of these cars are having. At least 3 cars that had their hoods just pop up from not being secured, one that left the pits without the lug nuts secured. Odd seeing Kia's being raced as well.

...and 1 lap to go, the #66 RX-8 doing well gets taken out by a GS mustang, and front suspension components lock the cars together and they just sit there until the end of the race.
Bleh. F-in mustangs.

Can anyone with some firsthand experience (Eric?) comment on how the Riley Mazda team was doing so well? Were there any rules changes this year that might have given the 8 more of an advantage?

That can make a difference. Just seems like for the last 2 years or so the RX-8's have been sliding backward and now, first race out and an old car is back up front. I like it regardless of how it got there.

Was the grill of the 8 really red? I wonder, because If they did make it glow red what would be the benefit, it any? I mean what comes to mind when you see red?
So if Mazda had a mean looking red glowing grill behind you while racing do you think it would mentally effect the other racers in a scientifically bad way (nervousness etc) and possibly make them make mistakes?

I think it makes the car look very evil , watching the #70 car on the back stretch where there was less light, it look like a giant joker smile was flying down the strait. It may make other drivers nervous, it may not.

I just went out and looked at those awesome pics and found this...
What a difference on the grid .... Comparing car 30 in 2010 vs 2009.
Sorta glad we couldn't make it this year with the rain ...
