I wonder what's being said on the Porsche forums tonight? They had the time in the sun. Now, they get hit with a couple of rules changes and they decide that they aren't going to play. I wonder if GrandAm will cave in to their demands.

Yeah, they're talking about being "shut out" of their own playground by the rule books. It's mainly TRG that hurt themselves by sitting the event out.
Whiners...

Congrats to the RX-8 teams, very consistent driving...... I am starting to like this Barber track more and more, it definitely produces some exciting action.

However..... exciting only applies to DP when the only two corvettes that can challenge the RX-8s took themselves out...

Now I am starting to wonder what Speedsource will do after this year, Mazda support will definitely be a lot less after this season, there is no doubt that they will get the triple crown this year. Speedsource #70.

The anouncers said at the end of the brodcast that they were wodering if any race restriction would be implemented to the rotaries with this kind of performance. Thing is last year or when ever they did this and it leveled the playing field some what. Now there are just more of thr same car so naturally it is more likely to win, and they are good.

BTW, glad you caught this one!
I heard that too. Not much more you can do against a good set of road course drivers IMO. I don't think it would stick, due to the Mazdas being in front (and back) of the running. Some teams, like Sahlen's (Nonamakers) run the middle of the field consistently. TRG also practiced this discipline with their #3 thru 5 five cars.

Any of you guys here members of the GA online Forums?

That's right, I've seen you over there on race days...

I see a lot more Mazda support than in the past and I wondered how many of us are over there.
Porsche guys have slacked off some now...

Excerpt from GA Forum post:

"Yeah, Andy's (Lally, TRG) Facebook says the entry was pulled from Barber" our hand was forced", I would guess a rules issue. Very surprised to see Kevin bailout but it is obvious they are way behind the curve here. Hope G/A can level things up. TRG has been herefor the long haul and deserves some consideration not to mention start up teams such as John Potter's Magnus outfit. Just look @ the front of that GT grid for tomorrows race. Enough with the Zoom Zoom already! "

...I think we're being hated on a little.

Just curious, how many times has it been an all Porsche front in the starting grid over the past 10 years?

There may be something in the rules I don't know about, but Mazda's great qualifying and great finishing positions may have something to do with the fact that there were 8 of them. In a field of 17(?) cars, the absolute farthest back we could possibly have our leading car would be 10th, and sheer odds say that we are likely to have 2 cars in the top 4, 2 in the bottom 4, etc...

I see this as more a product of the volume of Mazdas. If Porsche fielded 8 GT cars as well, THEN we could see what the balance really is.

HAHAHA!

Hear that? "You know what, this car makes you smile when you drive it"
From the announcer, quoting a comment from Leh Keen, Dempsey Racing.

Love it

Race over now, but nothing but audio available at VIR.
Most GA events will be covered by MotorRacingNetwork.com that's audio only.

Congrats on your P2, Jeff & Emil!

If I hear Kevin Buckler & Leighton Reese crying about Rev limiting the Mazdas again, I'm gonna stuff a shoe down their throats! Nobody made Banner choose a GM! Buckler sounds like the kid that always got beat up on the playground...

I crewed for the #68 this weekend...great weekend BTW!

The #70 got punted by a DP and suffered some suspension damage and the #30 fell back due to pit rotation and a mechanical issue from what I was told after the race. The #68 qual'd P6 and held position for most of the race, we fell back during the pit rotation and caught a couple cautions that weren't needed but still had a great weekend.

Great team to crew with!
Glad the weather held out for you guys too.
Thanks for the info, we were all wondering... GT coverage was spotty this time, in fact, SPEED sorta ticked me off with the delayed coverage... probably to cover NASCAR qualifiers- then the NASCAR qualifiers got rained out!

Yeah, the irony of it as well: Leh drove a Porsche the past couple seasons and hated the Mazda. You should hear the guys on Porsche forums hating on him now!
I personally like Leh's driving skills and am glad thad he came over to the darkside.

the mazdas had to carry an extra 75 lbs and porsche got to use their 3.8L engines according to the rule changes i saw....looks like porsche cried and bitched enough to get their way back to first place.

That's okay, the Bimmer will take them out if they don't fry their brakes first!
