Ain't that the truth. They could've given up on the chassis end and at least stayed in with just their engine. A few years back they announced that the intro of the new NSX would coincide with winning the WCC. Now there's no NSX, and no championship. And funny thing is, both were literally in their grasp. I'd say other than their utilitarian 4 banger road cars that company is in complete disarray.

FIA Official Crashes Renault Formula One Car!
Posted by: Admin on Apr 09, 2009 - 10:51 AM

An official of F1's governing body FIA on Thursday had a high speed crash at the wheel of a contemporary grand prix car.

On the occasion of Renault's 'roadshow' event in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates' automobile club president Mohammed bin Sulayem - also FIA vice president for sport - shunted last year's R28 single seater.

On the main straight of the Dubai Autodrome, the car swung to the right under power and struck the concrete barrier, necessitating a visit for the 14-time Middle East rally champion to the medical centre.

Earlier, bin Sulayem had successfully driven the car on a closed road.

"Fortunately he was uninjured and the car will be taken back to be repaired," said a Renault spokesman.

In Dubai for the roadshow event is Fernando Alonso's teammate Nelson Piquet.

I don't know what to say... what an embarrassment for the guy. But heck its a wild beast the F1 car and as far as I understand the last year R28 was very difficult to drive.

We all mock Piquet for his results, but he is probably a better driver than all of us. Still he only managed to limp the R28 home in half of the races. No when using a monster like that for a show it should be in Alonsos hands. He seems like the only driver for Renault who is awesome enough to control that beast.

I liked Torro Rossio when Luizzi & Speed were driving for them. I think both of these drivers got a raw deal.

#1. This whole McLaren thing is getting worse and worse...like a freaking rotting corpse!!!! I really like this team, but it's pissing me off how shady they are being...I really wish they would just put everything out there so we can move on.

#2. Speaking of corpses....Cosworth WILL NOT DIE will it.. First they're in, then they're out...then they're back.....on and on and on. I'm actually glad to see them back in though, and I think it has a nice symmetry...that is USF1 and the Cozzy. Not to mention, if I recall correctly, that motor was no slouch! Didn't the Jag run the Cosworth too??? I guess the thing of it is, given F1s seeming departure from its roots, it's nice to see some of the old names live on. I for one HATED to see Tyrell go...Jordan and Minardi too.

I agree, I'd like to see Cosworth become a player again. They had such a long run of victories with the V8 back in the 60's & 70's until the turbos came out.

Ecclestone admits interest in Montreal and New York

F1 could return to Canada, and New York is the only viable alternative to Indianapolis for a US Grand Prix, the sport's chief executive Bernie Ecclestone has admitted.

Following falling outs with both North American venues, the F1 chief executive is now under intense pressure to take his sport back to what is arguably the world's most important market.

Reports that Montreal could be reinstated to replace struggling new venue Abu Dhabi were wide of the mark, but 78-year-old Ecclestone admits he has not forgotten about the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.

"We are trying to get that back on again," he told Motor Sport magazine. "The government is interested."

The British billionaire is less keen on making up with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, saying instead he is interested in pursuing options in New York.

"It is the one place where someone could make a business out of it," he said.

"Apart from Indianapolis (...) there is nowhere in America we could go to and hold our head up and say 'this is comparable to other circuits we are building around the world'," he added.

Ecclestone cautioned that reinstating North American races also depends on teams agreeing to more than 17 Grand Prix per season.

............................

New York? I don't remember hearing any real proposals on a circuit there. alnielsen

Contains information on where exactly in NYC the race could be held. And, the economics involved. Hints at a Mexican GP?

Grats Toyota and Brawn

http://www.worldcarfans.com/9090415....a-appeal-court

As was widely predicted, the FIA's International Court of Appeal on Wednesday said it decided to "deny the appeals" against controversial rear diffusers.

In a statement, and following an eight-hour hearing on Tuesday, the Paris body said the stewards had been "correct" to rule that the Brawn, Toyota and Williams cars were legal.

"Full reasons for this decision will be provided in due course," said the FIA.

http://www.worldcarfans.com/9090415....ept-fia-ruling

The four teams who unsuccessfully objected to the legality of the 'diffuser 3' cars will not now take the matter further.

Ferrari, Renault, BMW and Red Bull took the matter all the way to the FIA's International Court of Appeal, arguing that the diffusers of the Brawn, Williams and Toyota teams contravene the 2009 rules.

The FIA court begged to differ, raising the prospect that the four unhappy teams would take the matter even further -- perhaps to the French civil courts.

But BMW's Mario Theissen said on Wednesday: "We will accept the decision of the International Court of Appeal."

The anti-diffuser teams insist the ruling has ramped up cornering speeds, contradicted the work of the Overtaking Working Group, and forced most F1 teams into expensive and significant mid-season car changes.

But, like BMW, Ferrari said it will also now simply work to rush out a version of the offending aerodynamic design.

"This decision forces us to intervene on fundamental areas of the car's design in order to be able to compete on an equal footing with some of the teams from a point of view of the technical regulations," the Italian team said.

Red Bull team boss Christian Horner was quoted by the German press as also vowing to reluctantly "accept" the ICA ruling.

Thumbs up

AWESOME NEWS!!!! ... Congrats to Brawn GP, Williams and Toyota.

Now if McLaren gets penalized even more, Hamilton was part of this whole Fiasco and he is getting away, this season will be the one for the books...

Also, although I like Ferrari, I can't stand their cockyness and I am so glad they are getting a piece of this "sour pie".

It is that kind of narrowmindedness that is terrible for the sport. McLaren did bad, they got disqualified. Lets move on.

You might hate McLaren and you are entitled to your opinion. But loosing 2 cars from the grid (if McLaren are kicked out) would just make the races less fun.

And yeah, I believe Fernando loves it too. He is the kind of guy who gets angry when he is not treated as the #1 star. Because lets face it, he probably is one of the worst primadonnas in the entire grid.

Here is Piquet's view on it:

Good conversations here... I am just tired of the same OLD teams always taking all the GLORY. I am happy for the new rules and definitely this season looks like it won't be as the "boring ones" ala "Schumacher" type where we knew 3 races from being done that he was already the champion...

Bring on the Ayrton Senna/Alain Prost battles again... Damn I miss those and this is why Alonso gets my respect. Too bad Montoya left for the "running in circle type of race" Of course to each their own.

Good luck and looking forward to this season.

Well, yeah we did get to see a very nice battle with Alonso vs Webber (i think) last race. It was incredible what Alonso managed to perform with that crap car. He was up on 3rd place just after the start.

I think all drivers respect Alonso a good deal. I know on TopGear Clarkson tried to mock Alonso a bit while interviewing Hamilton and Hamilton came to Alonsos defense directly saying "He is a damn skilled driver, don't let anyone say differently" (Quote taken from memory, but that was the gist of it)

bye bye Ron
i know that alot of mclaren haters, hated Ron. but i sure wish he was still leading the F1 team this year.

http://www.worldcarfans.com/9090416....as-mclaren-ceo

Ron Dennis on Thursday announced he is ending his involvement with the formula one team McLaren.

While he will remain chairman and a 15 per cent shareholder of the McLaren Group, the 61-year-old handed over his role as chief executive to Martin Whitmarsh.

In March, Whitmarsh also took over as McLaren team boss.

It has been rumoured that Dennis' further step away from the sport is in reaction to the 'lie-gate' affair, as part of a possible deal with the FIA.

"I admit I'm not always easy to get on with. I admit I've always fought hard for McLaren in formula one," he said at the team's Woking factory.

"I doubt if Max Mosley or Bernie Ecclestone will be displeased by my decision. But no-one asked me to do it. It was my decision," Dennis insisted.

He was fronting a press conference to announce the restructuring of the McLaren Group, with the road car group to now become an independent company with Dennis in charge.

Dennis hinted that he will be happy to attend far fewer grands prix from now on, after watching the recent Malaysian grand prix on TV.

"I'd expected to be more emotional about it, after an unbroken run of attending so many grands prix for so many years," he said.

Dennis said he has "no qualms" about leaving Whitmarsh alone to handle "matters connected with formula one."

We will have to stick together Alfy us McLaren lovers

I always liked that McLaren is there to fight the Ferrari dominance. That's why I love the silver car in the grid.
