Don't get too excited about Red Bull and Fernando being in the first 3 spots. They were running light compared to the others in Q3, especially Fernando. Brawn GP in 4th and 5th have 3 laps in hand on the two red bull cars, and more than that on Fernando. Even more interesting is Lewis Hamilton's fuel load. His is one of the more heavily fueled cars on the grid, and he is starting from 7th.

I am almost starting to feel sorry for the red cars. Massa was on the way to perhaps point before the engine gave up.

Everything is cyclical. The turbo years were not kind to Ferrari. The greats were Renault and Honda. Ferrari will be back eventually.

not me, i am having the time of my life lol. i dont like to see teams fail this hard. but ferrari is another story lol. its comedy at its best lol.

especially when ferrrai is thinking of giving up 2009 and work on their 2010 car. to watch a team as high as ferrari, just give up becuase its not going their way deserves a bad start. i hope mclaren keeps improving this year, just to show ferrari up. i dotn care if they dont win the constructors, just as long they out do ferrari is ok with me lol.

and Flavio Briatore needs to STFU. That fat pig doesnt have a clue what he is talking about. i am glad that button reply this BS . With all this time worrying about Brawn, he needs to spend his time worrying about how to improve his cars.

Also is it true for 2010 that there wont be any refueling any more? any how good morning

Also grats webber, its been a long time for you

Ferrari will decide after next month's Spanish grand prix whether to abandon development of the current F60 single seater.

In Malaysia, the word was that the Maranello team had endured its worst start to a season since 1992. Another pointless race in China means the rot has not been this bad so early in a campaign for 28 years.

A major raft of car improvements is due when the European season begins in Barcelona, but if the championship is still in a downward spiral, Ferrari could turn its focus to 2010, team boss Stefano Domenicali admits.

"I think for sure we will see after Spain where we are," the Italian said in Shanghai.

"In that period we will see really what can be the situation, so when we come back to Europe basically," said Domenicali.

Observers are wondering if, in the post Ross Brawn, Jean Todt and Michael Schumacher era, elements of Ferrari's overly reactive and shambolic past are creeping back in.

But Domenicali insists he is thinking dispassionately about what road to take.

"I think we have to wait. We need to stay cool. It is not easy, I know, but we need to stay cool because there are too many things that can change very quickl

Then you must think the same of Brawn/Honda, as that is what they did last season.

BTW, Congratulations to RBR. Didn't see that coming.

actually no. i only think this way for Mcarlen and Ferrari. and i know that may make me sound like a big hypocrite. but teams like ferrari and mclaren i have high standards. they strive the be the best for each season.

as for teams like toyota, honda, renault etc, i want them to be more competive so them giving up for the season and work on their next car is not a problem for me.

i cant explain what i am trying to say, but i think you may understand where i am trying to get at.

BMW will not write off 2009 season - Theissen
April 20, 2009 4:29 PM
Unlike Ferrari, BMW is not close to assessing whether or not to write off the 2009 season, team boss Mario Theissen insists.

It was reported on Monday that, after another point-less weekend in Shanghai, Ferrari will sit down after the forthcoming Spanish grand prix to consider turning all efforts to regrouping in 2010.

BMW-Sauber at least has a few points on the board, but is far from its pre-season ambition of being in a position to fight for the championship.

"We are not content with our start to the season, but we will not give up our goals after the third of 17 races," Theissen is quoted as saying by Germany's SID news agency.

"We must understand the car's shortcomings," the German continued, "and make big steps forward from now. The arrears is able to be recovered."

Theissen, however, acknowledged that because the 'double diffuser' solution is more complicated than it appears, a fully-developed version may not be part of the major Barcelona upgrade.

I find it especially ironic for Ferrari since they have been VERY competitive for a decade (give or take one year).

But I think that if Ferrari writes off 2009 and goes for the 2010 car they will be the dominant force next year.

In my opinion i find RBR have done the best job for the spent money so far. The Brawn car is dominant, but Honda spent as much on this Brawn car as Ferrari spent on their 2008 challenger. No wonder it is awesome.

Lola considering F1 return in 2010

http://www.itv-f1.com/News_Article.a...45652&PO=45652

Wednesday, 22 April 2009 00:00

British racing car manufacturer Lola is considering a return to Formula 1 under the new budget-capped regime set to be introduced next year.

The Cambridgeshire-based company, which had an abortive foray into F1 in 1997 after many years as a chassis supplier, said the low-cost route being charted by the FIA had prompted it to seriously evaluate the feasibility of re-entering the sport as a manufacturer team.

Under plans ratified last month by the FIA World Motor Sport Council, from 2010 F1 teams will have the choice of adhering to a £30m budget cap in return for greater design freedoms, or continuing to spend freely within the current restrictive technical rules.

The budget cap option is designed to entice new teams into the sport and Lola’s executive chairman Martin Birrane said it provided a realistic basis on which his company could contemplate fielding an F1 entry.

“The announcement that Formula 1 teams may opt for a prudent, financially responsible ‘cost-capped’ regime from 2010 has resulted in us deciding to fully evaluate the opportunity to develop a car to compete in the FIA Formula One World Championship,” said Birrane.

“Providing world-class engineering excellence, offering high-quality solutions governed by a tightly controlled financial regime has been part of Lola’s DNA over the last decade.

“The current necessity for Formula 1 to adopt a responsible approach in times of economic uncertainty has created the ideal conditions for us to consider developing a car for the world championship.

“Lola possesses the technical resources, capability and know-how to develop cars capable of competing at the very highest levels of international motor sport, including Formula 1.

“We are therefore embracing the WMSC’s timely announcements and assessing a relevant programme for F1 with a view to making formal entry in the coming weeks.”

Lola says it has already began a “full technical, operational and financial evaluation”, appointed key new staff and assigned some of its top engineers to the project.

The company claims it is “extremely well positioned” to seize the opportunity presented by a lower-cost F1, since it already has an F1-standard wind tunnel, latest CFD (computational fluid dynamics) technology and a seven-post dynamic chassis rig.

I hadn't heard about it until it was mentioned during the last race broadcast on Speed TV.

I've known about Lola for a long time. I drove a Lola T640 Formula Ford one weekend. They haven't had a very good record in F1, if my memory is correct. They provided the chassis for the last American effort in F1 by Carl Haas sponsored by Beatrice Foods back in the 80's. The CEO was ousted, so after, for spending so much on the F1 sponsorship. The team ended when the sponsorship contract ended.

In my opinion I find that would take away a lot of fun. Now you have the choice of going a 3 stopper with low fuel.

Ferrari needs Alonso not Raikkonen - Coulthard
April 22, 2009 10:31 PM
Ferrari's fortunes may rise again "if and when" Fernando Alonso joins the famous Italian team.

That is the opinion of David Coulthard, who in his column for the Daily Telegraph newspaper was less than complimentary about the contribution to a formula one team of his former McLaren teammate Kimi Raikkonen.

Maranello based Ferrari is enduring its worst start to a season since 1981, having attended the first three races of 2009 without collecting a single point.

"I don't know Felipe Massa that well, so I can't really comment too much on him, but Raikkonen is a former teammate of mine and the Finn has never shown me he can lead a car's development," Coulthard, now attending grands prix as Red Bull's reserve driver as well as a pundit for British TV, wrote.

"Sure, he has blistering natural speed, but I suspect Ferrari will improve dramatically if and when Fernando Alonso arrives," the Scot added.

It is an open secret in the F1 paddock that Alonso, who currently drives for Renault, has signed some sort of document that could see him move to Ferrari in 2011 or even sooner.

38-year-old Coulthard is not only worried about Ferrari's driver lineup, but also the managerial setup in the period following the departure of imperious boss Jean Todt.

"Team principal Stefano Domenicali is a young, approachable and thoroughly nice man. In formula one, those ingredients do not always work," said the veteran of nearly 250 races.

"His McLaren counterpart, Martin Whitmarsh, may well be suffering from a similar problem. Are these two young, able team leaders tough enough?" Coulthard wonders.

"Kimi Raikkonen would never have been wandering about the pits with a choc-ice and a coke, as he was in Malaysia when the race was still technically in session, had Todt still been in charge," he observed.

I don't know how much Alonso would help Ferrari. I think we all can agree that he has a drive to win. But the two present drivers are placed close to each other on the grid. And then there is that reliability & general pace problem with the car.

+1 on that.

I don't think Alonso is that much better at setting up a car and working with the engineers than Raikkonen or Massa. We are not talking rookie drivers after all.

Aston Martin?

http://www.worldcarfans.com/9090423....eye-cheaper-f1

Potential new teams keen to be budget-limited next year are seemingly clamouring at F1's paddock turnstile.

USF1/USGPE has already lodged an application for 2010, Lola is evaluating a start-up team, and London's Times newspaper said David Richards wants to bring his Aston-Martin brand onto the grid.

Up to five other small teams may also have expressed interest in the controversial new era of low budget limits, with Bernie Ecclestone also said to be offering teams a financial package with an eye on boosting the grid to 26 cars.

The British independent engine firm Cosworth would also be involved with an affordable customer package, as the threat of more carmakers following Honda out of the sport rises.

"This is a great time to come in," Richards, set to enter talks with Middle Eastern backers about his plans for a team with a staff of 140, confirmed.

"Nothing is decided yet," he continued, "but the key to all of this is the financial reality that the budget cap will bring."

Nelson Piquet has three more races to convince Renault boss Flavio Briatore that he deserves to stay in formula one.

Citing team sources, the motorline.cc portal believes the 23-year-old Brazilian could then lose his race seat, with countryman and rookie Bruno Senna a possible replacement.

Briatore was unimpressed with Piquet's showing in the Chinese rain last weekend, adding: "I only want to judge his performance in a completely normal race."

Former Swiss driver and German-language commentator Marc Surer, however, is not sure 25-year-old Senna would be the ideal substitute.

"Perhaps if Piquet continues like he is, a driver exchange could be a topic, but at the moment I don't see anyone on the market who would really be better.

"Senna is a beginner who would probably make just as many errors," Surer added.

I politely disagree. Alonso is famous for development, Massa needs Schumies guidance and Kimi is difficult to deal with I hear.
