I think the problem was that Hamilton was naively loyal to his team. I think this was a rough wake up call for him.

Indeed it did. I'm hoping for Hamilton on the podium in Spain. And I'm hoping for Vettel to be able to beat Button in the dry too, so we get interesting battles in the front of the pack!

Formula one could live without the sport's most famous, successful and longest-serving team, Max Mosley insists.

The FIA president's disquieting comments come after war threatened to break out between the Paris body and Maranello based Ferrari, enraged at the introduction of budget caps.

The furious Italian team has been making subtle noises about quitting F1 over the dispute, even though it issued a statement on Friday saying it wants to avoid "harmful" and "pointless controversy".

Ferrari, the only team to have contested every season of the modern world championship since 1950, is the sport's most evocative name whose absence would be an incalculable blow.

But "The sport could survive without Ferrari," Mosley told the Financial Times, although acknowledging the potential seriousness of the loss.

"It would be very, very sad to lose Ferrari. It is the Italian national team," said the Briton.

However, Mosley clearly believes that the stakes are too high to gamble the potential "collapse of F1" on the wishes of its most powerful team.

He also thinks Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo is simply misguided.

"I hope and think that when a team goes to its board and says, 'I want to go to war with the FIA, because I want to be able to spend 100m (pounds sterling) more than the FIA want me to spend', then the board will say, 'why can't you spend 40m if the other teams can do it?'"

Mosley also suggested that, even if Ferrari does go, his plan will safeguard the long-term participation of other car manufacturers.

"The message I'm getting from the board of two or three of the manufacturers is: 'if you can get it so that the cheque we write is not more than 25m (euro), you can consider this a pretty permanent arrangement'."

You and I disagree and I respect that, so let's leave it at that. I am still waiting for Alfy to chime in
The season just got better.

Carlos
lol. yah i have been away to austin, looking up houses , jobs etc. but the way i see F1 is the same way i see soccer. and that is you are usually loyal to the team you work for. if your boss tells you to do something, then you do it. hamilton got caught, but there are others who follow team orders like in soccer. if your told to clip the other teams wing ppl, then you do it. even if you dont want to. i am not making up excuses for hamilton, but sports is a very political.

they have proof that alonso was also in the middle of the ferrari scam 2 years ago. but i dotn harp on taht, because i tend to stay out of the polictics of racing. i just like bashing arrogant drivers (alsono) and teams who feel they are all high and mighty (ferrari :P ).

my posting probably doesnt make sense, to much on my mind then F1 atm :P

yah i agree with you, which is why i never liked ferrari in the motorsport world. i guess ferrari feels the only way they can win is if they spend the most lol.

Not since Ferrari built but never raced an Indycar in the 1980s has the Italian marque's relationship with the FIA been at such a low point.

The 637 single seater was the team's tangible threat to the governing body that its stance over V12 engines could realistically result in withdrawal from formula one.

This time, the threat is Le Mans, with Ferrari team boss Stefano Domenicali to attend and president Luca di Montezemolo to give the official start signal at the prestigious 24 hour sports car race in June.

"Le Mans is synonymous with technologically-advanced sporting competition and has always been a focus of great attention on our part," he said.

Ferrari's anger, now revealed with a spate of letters between Montezemolo and Max Mosley this week, is about the 40m pounds sterling voluntary budget cap for 2010.

Montezemolo's opposition to the plan is well known, but in one letter he referred to "Ferrari's guaranteed rights" not being adhered to.
It is believed he is referring to a power of veto granted to Ferrari when it committed to formula one over a breakaway championship four years ago.

In a letter of reply, Mosley hit back: "I do not accept that these regulations compromise any commitment that has been given to Ferrari, unless Ferrari would somehow argue that they are entitled to prevent new competitors from emerging at a time when the sport itself is in danger and new competitors are so badly needed

BMW has joined Ferrari in hinting that it is willing to quit formula one if the 'two-tier' budget cap is imposed for 2010.

The newly-published regulations for next year offer teams the option to be limited to a 40m pounds sterling cap, affording them more technical freedoms than their big unlimited-spending rivals.

Max Mosley's revolution has enraged Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo, and BMW motor sport director Mario Theissen revealed on Tuesday that the board of the Munich manufacturer is similarly unimpressed.

"A two-class formula one is not attractive to BMW," the German said at a media event in Munich.

The BMW board re-approved the BMW-Sauber project in February, but Theissen warned that if the landscape in F1 dramatically changes, it would have "the same impact on the project".

The heated situation makes the meeting of the F1 teams alliance FOTA in London on Wednesday crucial.

Theissen expects the gathering to be a long one, but as Bernie Ecclestone suggested this week, the chasm between the big teams' position and that of the FIA president may not be unbridgeable.

But to the German press, he said of Mosley's 40m cap: "In one go you cannot just evaporate by a factor of three. A moving path, for example over two or three years, would be possible."

http://www.worldcarfans.com/9090505....f1-quit-threat

yes i feel F1 is being destroyed by the FIA. but i find annoying when top tier teams whine about the budget cap. it only tells me that these teams can only win if they put the most money into their car. which f1 has been for yearsssssssssssss.

the only drivers that are driiving their pants off from top tier teams last year are, Hamilton, Kubica and ALonso.

I think F1 will go down for a while because of this, but come back stronger. The costs must go down and this is one way. Maybe not the correct way, but with trial and error sooner or later even FIA might get it right.

And once a balance has been achieved I won't mind seeing 13 teams or more battling on the tracks. So what if Ferrari and BMW aren't there. There are plenty other very skilled race-engineers out there willing to test their ideas against others.

I won't let Ferrari leave - Ecclestone

In contrast to Max Mosley, Bernie Ecclestone is willing to persuade the Scuderia Ferrari from defecting from the pinnacle of motorsports, should it ever come to that. The FIA president recently said that it would be sad for the Italian team to leave the sport, but nothing more.

"I won't let it happen," Ecclestone said to 'The Times' newspaper, in reference to the possibility of Ferrari leaving Formula One.

"The trouble with Luca [di Montezemolo] is that you shouldn't let Max ever be in a position where he can start a debate or an argument. He's reasonably clever and you won't win," he added.

"Even if you do win, it's like you being in the audience and me being there with the microphone. You say something smart and I don't give you the microphone — it's as easy as that."

The commentators in Swedish TV said that Raikkonen has trouble cooperating with his race engineer. This could likely be a result of a sour relation.

@Rotr8: Hamilton stated already yesterday that he did not believe Q3 was possible as the car was now, or at least that it would be a heavy struggle.

The McLaren is lagging behind, and it is only Hamilton's awesome driving that have enabled him to get as high positions as he has. Look at Kovalinen who is a good driver. That is how good the McLaren car is. Pretty sucky, I think an RX-8 could take it in the twisties

lmao at Sweden tv, especially when kimi said him self it was his mistake for assuming lmao.

and i can agree with you more about hamilton. like you said, hamilton is carrying his team with skills a driver, since we know his car is lacking and team mate also . its funny in the past races, the commentators are suprised how well he is driving in a slow car, and what postition he starts off in.

Heck I can fully agree with you on that point. Our commentators are embarrassingly slow. They are so focused on speculating and discussing things that they miss two thirds of the action on the track.

If you watch the Swedish transmissions of F1 the live timing is a must to just get the facts straight!

I'm looking forward to the race tomorrow. And after the race me and a couple of friends have booked 1-2 hours on the local outdoor go-cart track. Time to aim for the local lap record

Did anyone else more than me chuckle at Ferrari when they contact Massa and tell him. Sorry dude, you are one lap short of fuel.

Also a hilarious image was when the car had finally stopped on the slow in-lap Good for Massa that he only had to drop 2 people and still was in the points. Imagine if the car had stalled in the last corner. I would inwardly have wept for Massa, and laughed at Ferrari.

They certainly messed up when they took the gamble on their pit strategy. That was like trying to draw to an inside straight.

i know i always talk shxt on ferrari. but yesterday race, i really felt bad for both the drivers. was hoping that massa take 3r or 4th. just as long he beat vettel, but we seen what happened. but i did laugh when massa was like, wtf do you want me to do?

its good to see other teams winning now, but its not as exciting to see ferrari vs mclaren. guess in time we shall see.

also was hoping that ruben would win the race. but oh well

http://www.worldcarfans.com/9090511....er-team-orders

The 'team orders' saga has hotted up even more, with Rubens Barrichello threatening to quit Brawn GP if he is again the victim of team orders.

After the Spanish grand prix, the Brazilian veteran played down any comparison between the situation in Barcelona and his six years as Michael Schumacher's number two at Ferrari.

But with Ross Brawn the common denominator, a frustrated Barrichello, 36, clearly suspected that the switching of race-strategies penalised him while favouring his championship-leading teammate, Jenson Button.

"If I get the slightest sniff that the team are favouring Jenson, I'll hang up my helmet tomorrow," he declared to the American broadcaster Speed TV.

"I need to find out what happened. I'm sure everything is ok," he added.

Team bosses Nick Fry, and Brawn himself, denied that Button is being favoured.

"Nope, no. Absolutely not," Brawn, who was involved in the infamous team orders scandal involving Barrichello at Austria in 2002, said after Sunday's race.

"I hope Rubens doesn't think that, because we are not (favouring Button).

"I think you saw at the first corner that there are no team orders," said the Briton, referring to how Barrichello had been free to challenge Button for the lead of the race.

Yes, he is free to race his teammate as long as he doesn't win in the end. I don't think Brawn cares if he quits. He is a good driver, but they will find a replacement that is willing to drive for a lower salary.

Well, they had planned to do a threestopper. Then Button changed together with his race engineer to a twostopper during the race and it paid off.

You even got to hear the radio communication when Barichello is notified by his engineer that Button changed strategy in the middle of the race.

So it cannot have been the strategy that Button should pretend to be on a 3-stopper and then change to a 2-stopper just to throw off Barichello. That would just be sillly.

Barichello is allowed to win if he can manage. Button switched to an apparently better strategy and drove better.

I understood the point about separating the cars so they don't potentially get in to an altercation and both of them go out. But Rubens definitely got the raw deal on that one. Although it sounded like his car did not perform as well the second half so he couldn't make the time he needed to stay ahead of Button with the extra stop. I wouldn't say the strategy made it impossible for him to win (since he still came in 2nd) but it definitely made him have to push it hard at an inopportune time. It would have been better if they had let him know during or just before his first pit stop so he could have come out of the pits with that strategy in mind. Switching strategy half way through your current pit cycle really makes it hard to make up the time you need with only 1/2 the laps to do it in.

yah ruben is one of those drivers who i always think is cool. and it seems no matter what team he is on, he is always 2nd pick. which is sad, this might be his last year or next (due to age) but at least give him the best year of his life. Racing for ferrari was the same, always getting shaffted.

And Ferrari needs to get with the program. It's one thing to have a car that is not up to snuff. It's another if you're making poor strategic decisions. You'd think they learned to at least have your car on the track the last 3 minutes of qualifying by now. And what the hell do you want Massa to do to save fuel with Vettel crawling up his *** with a faster car. 1-2 laps extra would have been maybe a second or 2 extra in the pits.

If I were either Kimi or Massa I'd be super pissed right now. "Guys I can drive this car but you need to HELP US."
