Bernie Ecclestone in Monaco issued a veiled threat to sue Ferrari should the famous Italian team pull out of formula one at the end of the season.

After the Paris court action earlier this week, an interesting detail to come out of the verdict was its reinforcement of the binding nature of the commercial agreement in force between Ferrari, the FIA, and its commercial rights holder.

Friday is traditionally a 'free day' at the Monaco grand prix, but as official entries for the 2010 championship opened, word filled the media centre that the warring Max Mosley and Luca di Montezemolo were making their way to the Principality from Paris and Maranello respectively.

"We would always respect our contracts," F1 chief executive Ecclestone said in Monaco.

"All the teams that have signed contracts with us would expect us to respect them and we would expect the same from Ferrari. They are saying they are going to walk, we are saying we hope they respect their contract," the Briton added.

Ecclestone, 78, is believed to have concurrently written to di Montezemolo warning that if Ferrari breaks its contract by quitting the sport, he would be entitled to claim back millions in commercial revenues already paid.

On the surface, this crisis is headlined by the argument about budget caps, but sources are increasingly convinced that a ceasefire would be declared if Mosley simply stepped down.

But the FIA president's right hand man Richard Woods said the sport is lucky to have him.

"He's never blinked," said Woods, referring to 69-year-old Mosley. "The teams have got a strong leader of a strong governing body and he is playing hardball, as he always has."

F1 Debrief on speedtv. i really felt bad for ruben, especially thinking that your teammate is still commited to the 3 stop strat. then out of no where your team mate is on a 2 stop strat. you know i always liked ruben, espeically during the ferrari days.

i really wish he would win a race, but sometimes i feel that brawn is just doing the same thing they done to him with ferrari. he probably the nicest driver out there. oh well gl to him in monaco

Formula 1 teams have written to FIA president Max Mosley requesting that next year's regulations are scrapped if they are to commit their future to the sport, AUTOSPORT has learned.

Although Mosley hinted on race morning at the Monaco Grand Prix that he was open to a compromise deal about plans for a £40 million budget cap, the teams have now made it clear the conditions by which they will continue to race.

In a letter signed by all teams and sent to Mosley shortly before the race, the teams demanded that the FIA ditches the planned 2010 technical and sporting regulations and reverts to the current 2009 version.

This would then be used as the starting point for framing new regulations to bring costs under control - with agreed changes like a refueling ban still expected to go ahead as planned.

They say that Monaco is a drivers track. It was the Ferrari drivers that were able to overcome the limitations of the car and place so high.

It was a good weekend for Ferrari, all things considered.

They may feel that they had a fast enough car to challenge for victory and if they had got the pole it might have worked out differently. Raikkonen only missed it by hundredths of a second.

Sebastien Bourdais has denied speculation that an apparent falling out with team boss Franz Tost could cost him his Toro Rosso race seat.

Already under pressure after a difficult start to the 2009 season, the 30-year-old French driver is said to have got into a row with Tost in Barcelona, after crashing into teammate Sebastien Buemi at the start of the race.

Team figures obviously blamed Bourdais for the incident, with Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko telling Switzerland's Blick newspaper: "Maybe he should have put his glasses on."

But Bourdais told the BBC at Monaco: "No, there's absolutely no row."

He insists the start of the season has been difficult.

"I think the team knows that I'm doing the best I can. We had zero running at the start of the (winter) season and we've had to learn a car that changes every race; every race there is something different," said Bourdais.

While Bourdais clearly should be beating his teammate Buemi given his veteran status, the Toro Rosso team simply isn't very good, and Tost clearly is to blame for that... so obviously he will look elsewhere for a scapegoat.

And while Bourdais will be racing outside of Formula One next season assuming things are squared away with FOTA... Tost should also be looking for a new job.

I'm happy it is going well for Ferrari again! I mean how am I supposed to continue "hating" the team if it just goes bad for them.

Now McLaren needs to find some extra speed too to stir the pot up at the front. And would someone, anyone give Button a match!?! Barichello has the same car but is obviously way too slow to do anything about Button.

Looks like Cosworth will return to F1. It is reported, 4 team have put in a significant deposit on engines to be supplied for next year. This includes USF1.

According to the Spanish press, Fernando Alonso is growing weary of life in the formula one midfield.

With every passing day, the signs are growing stronger that the Spaniard will definitely leave Renault - perhaps at the end of this season - to join Ferrari.

In multiple press interviews now, the 27-year-old has spoken glowingly about the famous team, and on Sunday said he was "excited" to hear that a poll in an authoritative Italian newspaper showed that the country's fans want him to occupy a red car in 2010.

On the other hand, Alonso is increasingly downbeat about his current mount, the Enstone built R29, even after boss Flavio Briatore promised him an improved package for Turkey and a race-winning car before the end of the season.

Briatore, blaming traffic in Monaco, said: "I think today Fernando could have easily competed with Ferrari and Red Bull, but not Brawn."

In the pages of Spain's El Mundo, Alonso responded: "I am not going to spend the entire press conference responding to what Flavio has said or not said.

"We are going to introduce new pieces in Turkey but I think everything will stay more or less the same. It happened in Barcelona: everyone promised the world and everything stayed the same," said Alonso.

In Diario AS, he was quoted as continuing: "I am still very motivated, but I'm tired of being left behind."

Exactly my thoughts! Alonso is in a different league... heck if Hamilton is so good, and Monaco is a driver's race, then where was he?

I really hope things work out for Renault but I wouldn't mind seeing Alonso in the Ferrari team... bye bye Kimi...

It's been noted and said before that Alonso wouldn't except equal drivers status on a team. He would demand to be a #1 driver. On Ferrari this couldn't be so. However, the last two seasons may have given him some humility and he could accept an equal status.

Well Hamilton won it last year. And what did Alonso do then? Oh he went from start position 7 to finishing 10th. He dropped positions in a driver's race. I guess that means that he sucks compared to the three that passed him.

And that Hamilton is WAY better considering he managed to win at the same time.

I agree. He started in the back because he wrecked during qualifying. Monaco is a difficult track to pass on and easy to "make your car wide"/block on. He gained a few positions. As the race goes on and the field gets strung out, I gets to be harder to make these passes to improve your position. If the McLaren is ill-handling, he would have his hands full keeping from crashing during the race.

i can tell you what is going to happen in turkey, ferrari will be back in mid field with the rest of top tier teams. one of the ferrari car's will end up breaking down as usual. Kimi or masa will sit in the garage and watch their selves being knocked out of Q1.

while hamitlon drives by and gives them the bird.

I haven't seen any reports of that in the press. He has been distressed about the politics of F1.
I expect Monaco to be a one off for Ferrari. Their lack of downforce will cause them problems once we get back to the higher speed tracks. They may make it into the points, but for at least the next few races, not near the podium.

My prediction is that Ferrari will beat Maclaren in Turkey and Renault (Alonso only) will keep kicking Hamilton's ***...

I am not a God follower but I know there is good and bad and maybe we have different perspectives of good vs evil

Two reasons why he didn't do good in the Monaco GP.

1.)His car is lacking balance/grip as evident in the very first race. The new McLaren isn't what they had hope for. His car is improving, but like one of the engineers said. They are running just to stand still. Every team is improving with every race just to stay where they are in the field. With no testing allowed this year, they have to rely on the simulations to tell them if the new part will improve the car overall.

2.)He collided into a Williams car in the early stage of the race, breaking his left endplate on his front wing, causing understeer for around first half of the race. Only when he reported back to the pit that he had made contact with another car, did they change his front nose. After, he was able to ring in slighter faster lap times consistently with the understeer eliminated. But by then, the chances of him making further up into the grid was all but over.

Let's not be too critical over Hamilton/Alonso/Raikkonen whether one is overrated or underrated. This particular race is ridiculously hard to pass another car since the track is so narrow with tight corners. Even if you are seconds faster then the car ahead of you it won't mean you can pass that car as evident with Vettel holding up the mid pack by around 3 seconds per lap. In 1992's Monaco GP, Nigel Mansel was quite faster than Ayrton Senna, but Mansel still lost the race and Senna won because Senna made it extremely difficult to pass. I think if the car ahead of you isn't blue-flagged and the driver ahead of you knows where to place the car on the track, you'd be in for one hell of a race.

The evidence is quite clear. If you have a sub-par car, you won't get very far ahead. It doesn't really matter how good you are as a driver. Take Button and Barrichello as the perfect example. These drivers are capable of winning. Barrichello at times was beating Shumacher if it weren't for team orders. Button is taking this year's race by storm. But look at last year when they were in a poorly designed car. They were keeping the Force India's cars company . I can see how there are people who hate Hamilton because of the coverage he gets. He is a British boy afterall and the commentators for this sport is mostly British. Favoritism is bound to happen.
