In a way I agree with you bse50. It would be nice to get away from FIA and Bernie and breathe some fresh air where the sport is the main focus. Not the greed of old people who do nothing but administration.

However, I think two leagues will harm each other. Unless one is clearly more exciting than the other.

A cool scenario would be if a new league (F0 perhaps) were to start and follow the same race calendar but change the regulations of the cars enough that they would be 5-10 seconds faster per lap than the F1 cars. That would be hilarious to see the F1 cars do 1.30 on a lap on one track and 2 weeks later seeing an F0 car do a low 1.20 on the same track.

Yes, sure... and 10 seconds less considering nowadays shitty rules is something they could obtain in a couple of seasons with real aerodynamics, 1-2 races only engines and lighter weights
Have you noticed that Ferrari has got no mark near his name? Ecclestone wants to obly them to run because of some agreement..
How dare he do something similar when he's destroying any kind of previous agreement?

The fallout of the FIA's newly published 2010 entry list began without delay on Friday.

Williams said it was "pleased" to receive an unconditional entry, but for Ferrari and the two Red Bull teams, the reaction was starkly different.

Ferrari said it has been named despite its "previous written notice to the FIA not to do so", as the two sides no doubt now prepare to challenge the other's interpretation of a prior agreement.

Red Bull and Toro Rosso each issued nearly identical statements, both rejecting their unconditional entries and pledging their ongoing commitment to FOTA and "all its principles".

At the same time, a FOTA letter was dispatched to the World Motor Sport Council, seeking its assistance in resolving the conflict.

David Richards expressed his disappointment that Prodrive was left off the entry list, as he believes his outfit has the necessary "resources and set-up".

"We will wait to see how things develop in the next week, up to the 19 June deadline set by the FIA and we remain prepared and ready to implement our plans should the circumstances allow," a statement added.

A similar statement issued by Team Lotus read: "We understand that in the event that any of the teams listed do not agree the terms imposed by the FIA, we are short-listed to fill any spots which become available."

Much of the F1 world was surprised to see 'Manor Grand Prix' on the list, and it emerges that the outfit is a collaboration between the British F3 and Formula Renault outfit Manor Motorsport, and Nick Wirth.

Wirth is a former Benetton technical chief, who ran the Simtek team with Max Mosley's involvement in the 90s. Today his Wirth Research facility builds racing simulators.

It also emerged that Dallara will build the cars for the new Campos team, which will be based in Madrid.

In total, 15 entries from potential new teams were received and processed by the FIA.

I found the listing of Manor Grand Prix on the list interesting. There hasn't been much listed about them. Also, Toro Roso is listed without an engine. I wonder what happened to their Ferrari engines? If the FIA accepted their conditional entries, do you think that means that the FIA are legally required to accept the FOTA amendments to the sporting regs?

Ferrari, Red Bull & Toro Rosso have been listed as 2010 entries. The rest of FOTA have been listed as conditional entries. Is Mosley trying to split up the FOTA teams?

Sorry to temporarily derail this thread, but something happened today that I wouldn't have guessed in my wildest dreams. A F1 car actually came to my town! If any of you guys know, I live in the middle of nowhere! So I figured I'd share some pictures with my fellow F1 fanatics! This is Michael Shumacher's actual 2003 F1 car.

I saw a tv show of a man (from the US) buying a Ferrari F1 car in Maranello. They had to teach him how to use all the buttons and switches on the steering wheel. You have to qualify to be able to buy one. They don't just let them go to anyone.
I also saw one at the race track on a Ferrari weekend. This was back in the 80's.

An official of the famous sports car endurance race has invited formula one teams to next year's Le Mans.

Ferrari president and FOTA chairman Luca di Montezemolo was the official starter at the Circuit de la Sarthe last weekend, where he insisted that Le Mans was a serious alternative for the Italian marque.

Ferrari and seven other current F1 teams are threatening to abandon formula one over its rules and governance dispute with FIA president Max Mosley.

"The more the better. They are welcome here," said Remy Brouard, general manager of the organising body Automobile Club de l'Ouest (ACO), which also runs the European Le Mans series.

Identifying with the F1 teams' rules dispute, Brouard said the major teams including Ferrari, McLaren, BMW, Renault and Toyota would be welcome to suggest new technical regulations for Le Mans.

"If they want to make proposals, we will listen," he said.

All of the aforementioned F1 manufacturers have contested Le Mans in the past

F1's political crisis continued to spiral out of control on Tuesday, as the FIA reiterated that elements of the FOTA team alliance seem determined to hinder the quest for compromise.

The FIA's financial experts met with their counterparts of the formula one teams association on Monday, but FOTA refused even to discuss the budget cap.

"As a result, the meeting could not achieve its purpose of comparing the FIA's rules with the FOTA proposals with a view to finding a common position," said the governing body in a statement.

With four days until the 19 June deadline, it seems increasingly clear that neither side will back down, and that major teams including Ferrari and McLaren will not enter the 2010 world championship.

In addition to its statement about the Monday meeting, the FIA released a nearly 3000 word statement chronicling the dispute with FOTA, and also reams of letter correspondence between the Paris body, Ferrari and the Italian team's lawyers.

F1 drivers Felipe Massa and Mark Webber, who both drive for FOTA member teams, said an alternative series should now be considered a serious option.

"As the teams appear to be united, then maybe it is time to look at doing something different that could be better for the sport," said Ferrari's Massa.

Red Bull's Webber wrote in his BBC column: "We want to drive for the best teams and race against the best drivers. If it's not the FIA formula one world championship, so be it."

Batting in the media for Max Mosley, however, was his friend Gerhard Berger, who told Germany's Auto Motor und Sport that "some men dream of playing Ecclestone and Mosley".

But the former grand prix winner and team co-owner doubts the threats of a breakaway championship can be followed through.

"BMW and Mercedes really have other problems at the moment: like selling cars," said the Austrian.

I still can't figure out a good reason that they went away from the tried and true v10's, to now the 8's and KERS.

F1's rebel FOTA teams have moved to end the standoff with the FIA by devising a final offer of compromise, it emerged on Wednesday.

With Friday looming as yet another crunch deadline, the association - comprised of every current team except Williams and Force India - wrote to Max Mosley with a proposal to resolve the dispute over the budget cap rules.

"The time has come when, in the interests of the sport, we must all seek to compromise and bring an urgent conclusion to the protracted debate regarding the 2010 world championship," the letter read, according to Reuters.

"We hope that you will consider that this letter represents significant movement by the teams, all of whom have clearly stated a willingness to commit to the sport until the end of 2012," it added.

In the letter, FOTA proposes that the budget cap - now called "resource restriction" - be policed by a group of independent accountants of their choosing, with annual results submitted to the FIA.

"We can see no reason why such a system based on objective verification of compliance would not be acceptable to all parties," the letter read.

FIA president Max Mosley has already agreed to soften the 2010 cap to 100m euros, before it reduces to 45m in 2011.

FOTA is also seeking that Friday's deadline for finalising the 2010 entry list be extended for nearly another two weeks, to July 1, so that a new Concorde agreement can be negotiated and signed.

+1. Bring back the 2005 season! Heck even better, bring the turbo era version of these cars... half the cylinders, a compressor and twice the performance. Turbos now are sooo much better... Think of what the mighty MZR 2.0 DISI Turbo Mazda engine did last weekend at Le Mans... This WILL reduce costs even more...

I want to see Max crash and burn on this one. He's been doing as he sees fit to jerk the teams around and the fans around for years with no regard for anyone.

He just got me back after the Indy fiasco last year and now he's just doing it again.

Can't wait to see a picture of Max alone in the stands of Australia with 4 blank canvas race cars on the grid that now one cares about.

Yeah...there's going to be tumbleweed blowing across the track in Australia next year. It's a damn shame what they (FIA and Eccelstone) have done to the sport. I wish the FOTA the best...I really hope they can get their act together and put on a good show next year...hell, maybe a round at Road Atlanta might now be a possibility???

In the dead of Thursday night in England, the eight FOTA teams decided to issue a statement announcing that a breakaway world championship will be formed.

The announcement came on the eve of the FIA's Friday deadline for making unconditional entries for the official formula one series, and amid the sides' deadlocked negotiations about income, governance and rules.

"The FIA and the commercial rights holder have campaigned to divide FOTA," the statement read. "The wishes of the majority of the teams are ignored.

"Furthermore, tens of millions of dollars have been withheld from many teams by the commercial rights holder, going back as far as 2006."

The statement was issued on behalf of BMW, Brawn, Ferrari, McLaren, Renault, Toyota and the two Red Bull teams.

"These teams therefore have no alternative other than to commence the preparation for a new championship which reflects the values of its participants and partners," said the formula one teams association.

The details of the new series, including a name, circuits and starting year, have not yet been announced. At present its grid would feature 16 cars, unless the eight involved teams each field three drivers.

FOTA said: "This series will have transparent governance, one set of regulations, encourage more entrants and listen to the wishes of the fans, including offering lower prices for spectators worldwide, partners and other important stakeholders.

"The major drivers, stars, brands, sponsors, promoters and companies historically associated with the highest level of motorsport will all feature in this new series."

The formation of the series will spark more political turmoil, especially given that Ferrari and the Red Bull teams were unconditionally included on the FIA's entry list, due to disputed agreements with the F1 ruling bodies.

It is therefore likely that Ferrari's name will feature above the garages at Albert Park next year, while the famous Italian team races elsewhere.

F1 chief executive Bernie Ecclestone, whose Formula One Management is contracted to and aligned with the FIA and Max Mosley, has already vowed to legally challenge the defection of teams, and any attempts to negotiate with his contracted promoters and TV broadcasters.

The inclusion on the breakaway series of loved venues including Monaco, Spa and Monza will therefore be contested, while FOTA's plans do not involve the successful British team and expelled FOTA member Williams, which like Force India is committed to the FIA championship next year.
