Ferrari has finally confirmed Formula 1’s biggest open secret by announcing it has signed Fernando Alonso from Renault on a three-year deal from next season.
The double world champion will replace Kimi Raikkonen after Ferrari agreed to terminate its agreement with the Finnish driver one year early.
Alonso will therefore as expected partner Felipe Massa in Ferrari’s 2010 line-up, the Brazilian set to return from injury well in time for the new campaign.
“We are very proud to welcome to our team another winning driver, who has demonstrated his amazing talent by winning two world championships in his career to date,” said Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali.
“Of course, we wish to thank Kimi for everything he has done during his time with Ferrari: in his first year with us, he managed to win the drivers’ title, thus making his contribution to Ferrari’s history and he played a vital role in our taking of the constructors’ title in 2007 and 2008.
“Even during a difficult season like this one, he has demonstrated his great talent, with several good results, including a great win in Spa and we are sure that we can share more good times together in the final three races of this season.”

Grats polo. finally your dreams came true. i know how you feel bro. my dreams came true last season, when hamilton won the world championship. it was the best day of my entire life. glad you can experience the joy that i experience that day.

Now I wonder... who is better between Massa and Alonso. Probably Alonso since Massa has had off-time since the injury. But Massa has showed some incredible talent both in the well working 2008 Ferrari and the slow-as-a-slug 2009 Ferrari. I think it will be very even between Massa and Alonso from mid-2010.

uhhh, right. Alonso will wipe the floor with Massa. Fernando is famously ruthless, just look at how he handed the favorite son at McLaren.

In the end though valentino whine and wins, Alonso just left ruining his career.
He apparently changed his attitude after his dark years so maybe he will approach the scuderia with a different mentality!

A set up is just a set up. He cried like valentino rossi in the motogp because Lorenzo "steals" his setups and bike development

We will see in 2010 but I doubt that Alonso can wipe the floor with Massa. Maybe the first 4 races since Massa has been away, but Massa is an exceptional driver.
Ferrari also stated that the first driver is Massa. Second fiddle is Alonso.
Montezemolo stopped himself, laughed, and pointed a finger at the similarly-amused ranks of pressmen.
Later, he said: "I can confirm that Massa will be the first driver, and the third driver will be Giancarlo Fisichella.
"After Singapore, Stefano Domenicali and I will meet and decide who will be (in the) second car. Soon we will make the announcement," said Montezemolo.

Massa and Hamilton are both emotional drivers. Hamilton often gets angry though and makes mistakes, Massa would rather crash than just finish a mediocre race. This is what makes them interesting drivers to watch. Alonso is aggressive over the possible limits with open wheeled cars
I am also afraid that Kimi's career will be over at mclaren... hell, a team of britons! they get drunk at 5pm over there and beer hangovers last way more than vodka's

I think Kimi is crazy talented but with his on and off motivation I wouldn't want him on a team even as the number 2 driver; not to mention his alleged drinking habits.

i like kimi. but i felt he probably got bored with last season. which is probably why he was doing rally racing. i feel that with this season, he felt helping ferrari improving on their cars made it exciting again for him. but now with ferrari not wanting ot improve any more, is not a good sign.
i hope he rejoines mclaren, and i hope he races his heart out. because hamilton really needs a teammat taht actually drives just as good as him

KR: I don't think anyone expected Ferrari to have this kind of season, which turned out to be so difficult. But this can happen in Formula One sometimes, when you don't deliver a car capable of getting us to the front, but this is just one year and we will wait and see what happens next.
Q: Renault said that they will make their announcement next week. Could they be an option and have you talked to them?
KR: No, not with them.
Q: If you could do it all over again would you do anything differently?
KR: Would I have made different decisions? No. I am happy about what I have done, but sure if you look back in hindsight you probably would have done different things. But that’s easy to say afterwards. Regarding my contracts, no I would not have changed anything.
Q: What did you give to Ferrari and what did Ferrari give to you in the last three years?
KR: I’ve achieved with them what I always wanted to achieve. We had good times, of course, but we also had difficult times. But that’s part of the whole business. Sometimes you have good moments and sometimes you just have to grit your teeth and carry on. Overall I have happy memories of my time with the team. I have won a championship and the team has won two. That is something that nobody can take away.

i really feel that ruben got shafted for the most part of the season. only races he didnt, is where button was mid pack and ruben was some where on the podium start. which is where ruben proves to me at least, that he is a better driver then button. there where some races that i felt ruben could of won, but for some reason, the pit crew does something. any how just my IMO. i hope ruben wins .(crosses fingers.

Jenson Button says he is not interested in winning the world championship at all costs.
The Briton can wrap up the title at Suzuka this weekend, and was asked by the press corps to reflect on the manner of the circuit's controversial championship deciders involving Prost and Senna.
"It matter what sort of person you are. I would feel like I have cheated myself and I am not the only driver who feels that," said Button, 29, also referring to contentious titles won by Michael Schumacher against the likes of Damon Hill and Jacques Villeneuve.
"That was Schumacher, not me," Button added. "I don't think it means so much to me. I would also be cheating the people watching. What is the point? It's like doing a running race and taking a short cut."
His comments coincide with a report in the Daily Mail newspaper claiming that Rubens Barrichello is still worried former Ferrari tactician Ross Brawn may be favouring Button.
It is believed Barrichello said over the radio "what are you doing to me now?" when his car stalled during his pitstop in Singapore a week ago.
Button insists he will not be involved in any underhanded tactics.
"If Rubens was a different character or if I was in a situation with a teammate I hated, maybe I would think differently," he said.

polo might want to sit down with massa, and let him know that alonso is his new team mate.
but the math doesnt add up, especially with the botched pit stop that night by ferrari. also if any thing, hamilton was robbed a win in Spa , since he done everything he was suppose to do. if he wasnt robbed, he would of won the championship by a big margin.

Massa thinks in a good way but... dura lex sed lex! F1 is now a franchise, like the nfl etc so they do pretty much what they want.
