Vettel did an awesome job as always though.

Hamilton was struggling with the car just like Button was during the last race. We can hope it behaves better when fueled and Hamilton will be able to overtake people in the early stages of the race.

At least thats what I hope.

Woot the race is about the start. Perms what do you think hamilton will do? Hope he can get passed the slower cars. I hope vettle can beat alsonso out of the get go. Not sure how hard alosno is going to push vettle.

Idiot driving from Webber. Too bad that Hamilton didn't manage to pass the Ferraris. The good grip was gone. In hindsight Hamilton should have stayed on the soft tires the entire race just like Button.

Oh well that is racing. And too bad for Vettel with a brake failure. He should have won the race.

Unlucky Vettel, with a reliable car the guy would rock.
Glad to see Kubica finish second and Button is proving to be a good driver and not just a lucky one with a perfect car as the brawn was.

Ferrari is showing to be pretty consistent without a real "first driver". Those two guys are handling their competition pretty well, Alonso is not bashing Massa as he did with Hamilton, maybe he just grew up in the last year or so?

Button is still just lucky. I think the tire choice was a gamble that payed off. It was luck but since it worked they look brilliant unlike kimi's similar tire gamble that didnt pay off not too long ago.

I missed the first 12 laps, and consequently, most of the action. And, doesn't appear Speed is replaying the race.

Once the black cloud of bad luck/unreliability lifts I see Vettel winning 7 of the next 9.

Hamilton complained about the tires at the end of the race, and he was on his second sets of soft compound. I don't think he can last a whole race distance with 1 set of softs on. His style is much harder on the tires than Button. He shouldn't have complained on the radio like that during a race and behind the Ferraris.

Good job Kubica for getting on podium

MSC was a no show, although he could've had a damaged car, getting by a toro rosso shouldnt be so hard

What??

How is being smooth and able to handle your tires until the end of the race on one pitstop luck? Notice all the guys on the podium managed 1 stop because they took care of their tires and didn't make mistakes? That's not luck that's smooth and consistent driving along with good calls in the pits. Do you think it's luck that Jenson got faster and faster towards the end of the race on one set of tires?

I think Button did a marvelous job. He has a very smooth driving style.

However Button had two very lucky elements:
1. He gambled and put on the slicks at exactly the right time
2. Vettel's front left brake gave up

Hamilton was not suffering more from graining than the Ferraris. He was complaining about the tires since the perfect grip was gone and he couldn't do 4 seconds faster laps anymore.

If Hamilton had not been pulled in he would have gotten third or second. It was a horrible decision to take him in...

All that said I am happy to see Kubica perform well. He is a great driver. I am also very happy to see Massa out-racing Alonso. Go Massa!

Hey RX26b, and anyone else that may or will miss races from now on. If you use Firefox, go to BBC's iPlayer webpage and look for the race there, but right before you select it to play, do this:

Click on the 'Tools' tab and click on 'Options'.

Select the 'Advanced' button on the far right hand side and click on the 'Network' tab and click on 'Settings'.

Select 'Manual Proxy Configuration' and in the 'HTTP Proxy' line, paste in this: 92.52.125.17 and for the 'Port' enter 80. Click 'Ok' and enjoy!

So what do we need, going forward from this race?

McLaren need to issue Hamilton with some toys to put in his cockpit; then if things aren't going too well in the later stages of the race he can literally, rather than figuratively, throw the toys out of the pram.

The FIA needs to install sprinkler systems on all circuits, controlled by a random timer system running on a secure computer. Then all races can be subject to unpredictable showers.

Yeah Lewis needs to get a grip. That being said Red Bull needs to get a grip on quality control.

I was disappointed with Lewis all weekend; not with his driving but with his lack of emotional control. He didn't handle the pressure of Jensen's performance bettering his well at all. He showed his age. I think Vettel is handling defeat much better right now.

I must say Lewis did drive like a champ though.

???? just because he asked why he was being put on a 2 pit strat, when other drivers are on one, to me sounded pretty stuid. its obvious that hamilton felt he didnt need to be put a on 2 pit stop. I would be pretty ticked to start off at 11 plact to almost get to 3rd , but lose it due to a 2 pit strat.
Martin Whitmarsh has excused Lewis Hamilton for his criticisms of McLaren's race strategists in the Australian grand prix.

While his teammate Jenson Button made an inspired decision to pit early for slicks at slippery Albert Park and won, a global TV audience heard 25-year-old Hamilton slam on the radio the "freaking terrible idea" of his two-stop strategy.

"Whose call was it to bring me in?" he also frustratingly asked his pit crew.

A writer in the Independent newspaper said that to "complain while the race was running was a shocking lapse of professionalism", but Hamilton then continued to pan the strategy in conversation with reporters afterwards.

"I think I deserved better," he said. "I'm happy with the job that I did. Everyone else in front of me did one stop and I did two."

Team boss Whitmarsh said the episode was simply a demonstration of the passion of Hamilton, who on Friday night was charged by Melbourne police after doing a burnout in his Mercedes road car.

"That is how Lewis is. He is passionate, he likes to win, he likes to do everything well, he is hard on himself, he is hard on the team. And that is how Lewis functions," he said.

"If Lewis didn't feel disappointed and frustrated, I'd be worried," added Whitmarsh.

It should be noted that the vastly experienced Williams/Rubens Barrichello combination also stopped twice and regretted the decision, while double world champion and 2010 title leader Fernando Alonso discussed the option over the radio.

"We talked about it but the simulation said it would be faster if we went with one set of tyres to the end," said the Spaniard.
