Austin is not humid unlike Houston or even Dallas... It gets hot yes and they better not schedule an even between June-Sept...

And the track will be like 45 minutes away from my house... :) :)

Heck,
I could even see the Ferrari's beating everyone else here :)

I am taking reservations at home,... :) :)

Awesome NEWS!! I hope it is for real!

Carlos

It looks real enough considering it is on the official F1 page too: http://www.formula1.com/news/headlin...0/5/10824.html

Anyways, really great for the US! And even better that it is a purpose built track and no oval track involved.

Lets just hope the building goes fine and according to plan so the track is finished on time.

alnielsen 05-26-2010 06:39 AM

There is also talk of a new US F1 team. Again being funded by the Youtube founder. He is looking to buy a existing team rather than start one from scratch. He is talking about having the HQ in the US and the tech portion in Europe.

alnielsen 05-26-2010 07:01 AM

Speaking about the US GP Tavo Hellmund, managing partner of race promoter Full Throttle Productions, said the Austin track and grandstand would be built "within 10 miles" of the Austin airport. Hellmund said the track will be at least 3 miles long.

Pirelli wins race to be F1 tyre supplier - reports

Italian media sources are reporting that Pirelli will be F1's sole tyre supplier in 2011 and beyond.

Autosprint and Italiaracing say the Milan-based marque has been selected by the teams and F1 chief executive Bernie Ecclestone to replace the departing control supplier Bridgestone.

At least initially, the tyres will be in a similar 13-inch specification to the current Bridgestone product, with a longer-term ambition being a move to a low profile.

Yeap, This is exactly where I figured they will build the track... There is plenty of land there, not too far, land relatively inexpensive compared to other US cities, and close to the airport...

I tend to go there to Harris Hill Road, a private race track. There is also "The Driveway" (5 miles from the Airport), a purpose built track whose configuration has the best pieces of all the besttracks in the world... a bit of Laguna, a bit of Spa, Monaco, Monza....

Oval?? NO WAY!! Remember F1 also turns right, not only left!:) ... On top of this, Austin is more of a "Hi Tech" area, very liberal, NOT a Nascar city by any means, not Red Neck... This is why Indy failed as well... Remember Bernie saying "it was the wrong crowd" when he pulled out of Indy.

I hope it becomes real. I just told my wife... "Honey" we are staying in this city for 10 more years... (FYI: I wanted to move back to CA next year!)

Bring it on...

And Alfy, yes we can go together...lol

Carlos

I agree with you on this. I think Houston is the worse out of the 3, but Dallas is being the best for not being as humid as the austin and h ouston.

Well, if you get bored with the racing, you can always take your boat to Lake Travis and see all the topless college girls partying on the other boats.

I'll take you all... especially at Devil's Cove :) :) Don't tell my wife though... lol

It's the BUZZ of the town now. Everyone, radio, TV, newspapers, news sites, are talking about this. :)

Carlos

alnielsen 05-26-2010 03:42 PM

Their talking about Devils Cove? :)
Found out about it from the Art Mann Show on HDNet. Lake of the Ozarks was better, but all is good.

If their just now talking about it, I guess we can't rely on the local press (and there for you) for the latest information.

Haha, come on I grew up outside of Dallas, I have lived in Houston for the last 11 years, but Austin is clearly the best place..... it is right in the middle of Dallas, San Antonio, and Houston. It is on the edge of one of the most scenic best areas in Texas (the Hill Country, Lake Travis, Lake LBJ, Horseshoe Bay Resort), the center of Live Music, 6th street, home of UT, the states capital, Barton Springs, I mean you could go on and on, I love all the large cities in TX, but Austin is a genius move for F1 and I am looking forward to even more road trips to that amazing area of TX :)

lol austin is my favorite city in texas, but as for humidity dallas would be the least lol. Like you i rather have it in austin also, since i hang out there a lot. Also will be moving there after school.

2tone 05-27-2010 09:45 AM

alfy, for some reason i never looked at your location, never realized you were near austin.

but yeah, austin is a good spot considering the 3 other major cities are all within a 3 to 4 hour drive from here.

Massa, Webber set to stay put for 2011

Driver changes among Formula 1’s top teams for 2011 appear set to be few and far between after both Ferrari and Red Bull indicated on Thursday that they intended to field unchanged line-ups for next season.

Ferrari looking forward to 800th GP

The seventh round of the Formula 1 World Championship takes place at the Istanbul Park circuit, just outside the Turkish city. A relatively new venue, it is an appointment that Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro looks forward to, given that a Prancing Horse car has been first past the chequered flag three times out of a total of the five Turkish Grands Prix held to date.

Alonso out in Q2!!! How in the world did this happen. Alonso is really struggling with the car right now. I wonder if it is an upgrade he disagrees with or what. Massa was strong however making it clearly into Q3.

@Polo: I suppose this means he isn't the best driver in the world after all ;)

bse50 05-29-2010 06:50 AM

He trail braked too much on his fast lap and only had another lap left. in 2/10th of a second there were too many drivers packed up so he fell out :)
Bad mistake, he's gonna pay for it badly!

What about petrov in q1? :)

PerSmitt 05-29-2010 07:07 AM

Petrov kicked ass all through the session. Only 9th in Q3 but still a wonderful drive for a new driver.

Kobayashi also did a splendid Q2. Inspired driving at its best.

And while speaking about inspired driving. Webber and Hamilton, both top class. The only thing being the difference in their times being the McLaren being faster in the high speed sections and the Red Bull being unbeatable in sector 2.

Vettel once more failed to match Webber. I soon will have to revise my opinion of who is the fastest Red Bull driver it seems. Well done Webber!

bse50 05-29-2010 07:16 AM

Hamilton is the driver that impressed me the most, he made up for the chassis differences by driving the hell out of his car. Lot of trailbraking, slight sliding out of the short radius turns to maximize exit speed etc.
We'll see how he deals with the race pace set by the 2 redbulls though, following webber while being chased by vettel can really stress him!

Actually I think he will be pretty un-threatened by Vettel if he makes it through lap 1 ahead of him. The good passing spots are in S1 and S3 where the McLaren top speed reigns supreme. Hamilton did 320 km/h in the speedtrap today. Vettel cannot pass that on a straight.

It requires either the packed action in the beginning of the race or a mistake from Hamilton. What would really make matters interesting is if Hamilton can capitalize on top speed on the first lap and break past Webber into turn 1 on lap 2. Then it really gets interesting.

I am really looking forward to see the race tomorrow. Also if Alonso's race pace is better than his qualifying pace we will most likely see some cool overtaking action from him too.

Considering he went from last to 6th in Monaco where it is impossible to pass I expect him to at least win from 12th position, otherwise it proves that Monaco was just a fluke... ;)

Hehehe okay, I will stop teasing Polo now...
