Felipe Massa says:
“I hope we make another good step forward this weekend, with the new updates we are bringing to England, because we saw in Valencia and even in Canada, that the F10 is progressing in terms of competitiveness, even if for various reasons, that did not translate into good race results. In fact, this weekend should provide a very clear test of how much we have improved, both in pure performance and in terms of where we stand against the teams currently ahead of us
You see why I like Felipe? He always keeps positive and doesn't think too much about the past in negative terms. That's the way a driver should think\behave!

American Cypher Group targets F1 entry

Formula 1 parc fermeThe American-based Cypher Group has submitted an official application to join the Formula 1 grid next year, after confirming a tie-up with driver Jonathan Summerton.

Cypher is believed to include former members of the failed Team US F1, who are adamant that the United States is able to produce a competitive grand prix outfit despite failing with the Charlotte-based operation.

In a statement issued overnight - and just hours after ART Grand Prix announced it was pulling out of its plans to move into F1 - Cypher said: "We have officially submitted our candidature and hope that we will shortly be selected by the FIA as the 13th entry in the 2011 FIA Formula One World Championship. We aspire to bring America's red, white, and blue back into Formula 1."

Summerton, who has raced successfully in F3 and A1GP, had been linked with US F1 and is pushing hard to make the move into grand prix racing.

The Cypher statement added: "Jonathan is capable of racing against the top Formula 1 drivers and we hope to be able to give him a competitive car. We look forward to the opportunity of being on the starting grid in 2011."

Cypher looks set to be going up against Epsilon Euskadi, Stefan GP and Durango for the 13th slot on the F1 grid. The effort is also totally separate from the push by former US F1 representative Parris Mullins to lead American efforts into a tie-up with a current team.

Ferrari have even more experience in developing F1 cars than McLaren so it is just a question of time before Ferrari sort out their internal mess and put a winning machine on the track again.

If Ferrari does that and McLaren and Red Bull are not there to match the pace then Alonso wins the title that year. Actually I would clarify that, if Hamilton, Vettel and Kubica don't have equal cars to the Ferrari then Alonso wins.

My reasoning is that I believe no other driver can challenge Alonso if Alonso has a truly competitive car. He is just too good of a driver for the rest of the field to challenge him on an equal basis. They need better cars to beat Alonso.

Alonsos strengths in my opinion are:
Stability. He will finish the race and always take good points. Not a crashie like Hamilton was.
Smarts. You can see him preparing a pass analyzing how the car ahead is driving and then pounce at the correct moment.
Speed. He can put down stunning qualifier laps and always get that little extra out of the car.
Endurance. He can perform well over an entire race, taking care of tyres and handle the strategy for optimal result.

His weakness:
Temper. Once his tempers flare he looses the Stability, the Smarts and the Endurance with the race strategy.

We saw this in Valencia since Kobayashi managed to pass him. Lets face it, even on fresh rubber you cannot pass an aggressive Alonso that does not want to be passed. Not on a track like Valencia.

No, all in all, Alonso is a damn scary driver to drive against our stalwart champions of the Silver Knights.

Good post btw, I do agree with you to extent though. I use to think Ferrari was the best at making cars, and the other teams like Mclaren did their best to be equal to Ferrari, but that was before 2009. With budget caps they showed what team are actually are good at making cars. We know that the 2 teams in 2009 was RB and Brawn, and we got to see Mclaren and Ferrari fall on their behind.

2010 Ferrari should be were mclaren is atm, but i think Budget cap is holding them back, which is why they wanted to lift the ban ont that also. Personally i think RB is the best at making cars for the last season and this season. They taken renault engine to new heights with their car. If they can make a ok driver like Webber look fast, they have to be the best team at making cars.

Man I noticed that Reanult is just kicking *** with Kubica driving for them. Drivers like him are what make teams good, and Alonso i feel didnt try hard enough to put Renault back on the map.

Mclaren on the other hand is a balance team, they are not the fastest car on the track (2nd fastes), but their drivers plus the team make the car fast, and that is where Ferrari should be at now. Sometimes I wonder where Ferrari would be at if Kimi was still racing for them. He suprised me a lot when the season was closing.

As for Alonso, I think he is an really awesome driver, but this season he has shown me has no passion. For me he is only good if the car is good, if its not he just gives up. Which is why Hamilton is a better driver then Alonso, Hamilton no matter what he still pushes to the limit of the car. Which is why Mclaren is number one on the constructors, in a slower car then RB he still pushes as if it was a equal car as RB.

I am so glad that Ferrari kept Massa, he is one of those drivers who have a heart and just seems like a really kind guy. I hope he owns Alonso next season.

Btw I use to like Alonso a lot when he was at Renault before he joined Mclaren. I am not sure what happenend after renault, but he needs to get back being that Alonso he use to be.

Can't WAIT . My favorite car ever will have a younger brother

http://www.worldcarfans.com/11007082...-early-in-2012

British automaker McLaren will reportedly release a new hypercar beginning in 2012, according to Autocar. The F1 successor, allegedly known as P12, would compete with the top models from Ferrari and Lamborghini. Previous reports pegged the P12 to arrive in 2015.

Insiders at the automaker told the periodical the car will be "revolutionary." The common belief is that the car will use a 6.0-liter V8 engine mounted at the middle of the car. Previously, McLaren design chief Frank Stephenson had said the car would have a 240 mph top speed.

One of the car's design features will be focused on the use of lightweight materials, with parts including a carbon-fiber monocoque. The light car and high speed will require massive stopping power. This could come from ceramic brakes.

Look for the new car to be inspired by the F1, while maintaining its own distinct look. The car could keep the central driving position, and may get unique light clusters and wheels to make it more identifiable.

Yes. Clearly that's what they need to start winning races.

Although if the guy brings in more money than Senna I can see why they want him. After all that's what they really need right now is money to spend on development.

ONE rising F1 star (hint hint) revealed at the Chinese Grand Prix this weekend that he names his racing cars after girls.

The driver admitted to the BBC’s Martin Brundle that he likes to treat women well, and he also likes to treat his cars well, hence he names his cars after the ladies.

The mystery driver said:

“Like a ship, a car should be named after a girl as it’s sexy. My original car was called Kate. But then it got smashed at the opening race in Australia. So we called this one Kate’s Dirty Sister because it is more aggressive and faster.”

Who’s the driver?

Congratulations if you answered Sebastian Vettel, because it was indeed the young German who drive “Kate’s Dirty Sister” to victory for Red Bull Racing in China on Sunday; no doubt Vettel will be treating Kate’s sister very well from now on.

http://www.anorak.co.uk/207792/sport...ml#more-207792
Actually Webber is taking out Kate's dirty sister for a spin now on Silverstone. They have not had time to create a new car for Webber so he takes Vettel's older car.

Vettel will be driving Randy Mandy on Silverstone.

Damn this almost sounds pornographic put like that

Agreed. Massa is a good guy with great driving skill and extremely bad luck.

I really hope he will bounce up and start challenging Alonso more, but it is difficult.

Ferrari long awaited upgrade is in

This is what Ferrari has been working on since the begining of the season. I hope this upgrade makes the car faster.

Ferrari on Thursday unveiled a new logo for its formula one team.

The current logo features the infamous 'barcode' that was recently removed from the F10 car, following suggestions it subliminally advertised Marlboro cigarettes.

But the new logo, to be used from 2011, remains red and white and is more angular than before, moving some observers to surmise that it reminds them even more of main sponsor Philip Morris' product.

And team boss Stefano Domenicali told reporters at Silverstone: "I can confirm that next year the team name will be the same -- Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro."

Senna back to driving after Silverstone.

Bruno Senna will return to the wheel of his HRT car at Hockenheim in two weeks.

The new Spanish team has replaced the Brazilian at Silverstone with reserve driver Sakon Yamamoto, amid speculation the Japanese is better funded.

But Senna, 26, is at the Northamptonshire venue on Friday and has been locked in meetings with team boss Colin Kolles and manager Chris Goodwin.

Hispania then said in a statement that the team "decided to give an opportunity" to Yamamoto, who turns 28 on Friday.

"Bruno Senna will continue to drive in the remaining races," the statement added.

Yamamoto is more than a second off the pace of team regular Karun Chandhok at Silverstone, and during the afternoon session looked to be suffering from a sore neck.

HRT's statement referred to "the rumours" about Senna's financial position, but neither Senna, Goodwin or Kolles would explain the true reasons for the Silverstone situation.

Practice 2

Red Bull maintained their advantage at Silverstone courtesy of Mark Webber on Friday afternoon, in an hour and a half long second free practice session which saw some different faces in very different places.

Ferrari bounced into contention with second and fourth places to Red Bull’s first and third, Mercedes were fifth and sixth, and McLaren only eighth and 13th, separated by Force India, Williams and Renault. And Renault’s Vitaly Petrov was quicker than Robert Kubica. Go figure…

With a track temperature of 43 degrees Celsius and an ambient of 27, compared to 28 and 21 on Friday morning, conditions changed a lot. Red Bull, however, just went faster and fastest, with Webber eventually cutting down to 1m 31.234s. A rather breathless Sebastian Vettel lapped 0.641s slower in 1m 31.875s, but he was separated from his team mate by Fernando Alonso, who took the Ferrari round in 1m 31.626s for second, 0.392s adrift of Webber.

Felipe Massa was fourth on 1m 32.099s in the second Ferrari. Right behind the Brazilian came Nico Rosberg with 1m 32.166s in his Mercedes GP, while Michael Schumacher was half a second off his team mate with 1m 32.660s.

Petrov had an off at Becketts - as did the likes of Massa, Lewis Hamilton and Timo Glock - but was seventh with 1m 32.745s, ahead of McLaren’s Hamilton in eighth with 1m 32.757s. Force India’s Adrian Sutil and Williams' Rubens Barrichello rounded out the sub-1m 33s with 1m 32.787s and 1m 32.967s respectively.

Behind them, Kubica took his Renault round in 1m 33.019s for 11th, with Williams' Nico Hulkenberg (1m 33.164s), McLaren’s Jenson Button (1m 33.200s), BMW Sauber’s Kamui Kobayashi (1m 33.402s), Force India’s Vitantonio Liuzzi (1m 33.728s) and Toro Rosso’s Sebastian Buemi (1m 33.836s) completing those runners below 1m 34s.

Pedro de la Rosa just failed to break that barrier in his BMW Sauber, ending the day 1m 34.051s, leading Toro Rosso’s Jaime Alguersuari on 1m 34.643s, Lotus’s Heikki Kovalainen on 1m 35.465s, Virgin’s Lucas Di Grassi and his team mate Timo Glock on 1m 36.237s and 1m 36.553s, HRT’s Karun Chandhok on 1m 37.019s, HRT’s Sakon Yamamoto on 1m 38.303s and Lotus’s Jarno Trulli on 1m 42.901s. Both Lotuses ran into mechanical problems.

On a generally tricky afternoon, Di Grassi spun at Abbey, Hamilton added to his Becketts off by leaving the road at Abbey twice, both Ferrari drivers went off-course at Copse, while Massa spun at Brooklands. Clearly the increase in track temperature played a key role as various driver/car combinations sought unsuccessfully to get their cars sorted out in slippery conditions

Should be a good race... not going to be able to watch until Sunday night though.

So I frequently get access to the Williams press packages before each race (PDF form) which contain their thoughts on the race etc. Would you guys be interested in me posting those?

Definitely. Getting some "inside" information is usually more accurate than what is written in the media so it can really be nice to spice things up with

It should be a VERY exciting start to the race with Hamilton and Alonso vying for position into the first corner. They are both aggressive drivers that have something to prove to each other and to the world needing all the points they can get. They will both be desperate for a good start.

It's probably a car setup issue. They have different engineers and different setups. Hammy just got it right.
