Austin GP construction to begin shortly
http://www.thef1times.com/news/cache...Texas_site.jpg Herman Tilke's design company say they are almost ready to begin work on the site of the American grand prix in Austin, Texas. The site, located in the south-east of the city in an area known as 'Wandering Creek', will host its first race in 2012 - which means construction work must begin soon for it to be completed in time. The Statesman newspaper revealed that a local office will be set-up on site in the coming weeks, in preparation for Tilke's design team to oversee the construction. "There is land, there is money, there is a Formula One contract. We are now ready to enter the final stage of the ambitious project," Christian Epp, an executive within Tilke GmbH said. The plans for the track are nearing completion, however Epp confirmed that the finer details are yet to be ratified. "We have to figure out how many buildings and access roads are needed, how in detail to manage the water supply, drainage and power. "It's like planning and building a complete new city," he added. August 16th will see engineers, architects and geologists on site to draw up detailed plans with grading of the land (levelling the surface in readiness for construction), likely to begin in December. http://www.thef1times.com/news/display/01712 Google Maps Link to the site: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=map+au...76218&t=h&z=14 |

More About the US F1 Race
US track set to be fast with difficult corners
United States Grand Prix promoter Tavo Hellmund promises that the Austin circuit will be a "fast track with difficult corners". America will return to the F1 calendar in 2012 following a five-year absence at a purpose-built facility close to the city's airport. In an interview with the official Formula One website, Hellmund revealed that all the fans will have a pretty clear view of the track. When asked how the circuit will look, Hellmund said: "Amazing! I have conveyed my ideas to Hermann Tilke and Peter Wahl who are the most established racetrack architects of our times. "The area has natural elevation differences, which promises a fast track with difficult corners. But the most essential thing is that has to be a masterpiece in its suitability for fans. Spectators have to be able to see large parts of the track from wherever they are. "The layout is just about to be finished and we will present it to the FIA in September." Meanwhile, F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone says the race will take place "somewhere in June". "We have to wait and see, but it would be logical to place it close to the race in Montreal and that would mean somewhere in June," he said. http://www.planetf1.com/news/3213/63...ficult-corners |
