Official 2011 Formula 1 Season Discussion

On the other hand, I would not cry if they started with V12s in F1.
I would like to watch a break-away series where the teams have more freedom, especially in more areas than aerodynamics. However the risk is there that one car will be supreme and win all races, hardly interesting to watch.
But still getting out from Bernies and FIAs clutches would be a good first step. Then look after the spectacle and make sure it is still interesting to watch.

I both agree and disagree. He puts high tech = big powerful engine. I like the idea with a super-powerful, compact, light and economical turbo engine that puts todays engines to shame in every single categorty.

If they want to save fuel why don't they just race a prius? It would also put the F1 cars in a situation where they would be the only cars in a category racing with that kind of engines. I doubt that gp2 teams etc would have the money and capabilities to do the same.
12000rpm redline? That's bullshit, why don't they move to diesels at this point?
Reducing the number of engines per season is weird too, just like the test ban. A team will spend more producing parts and testing them on fridays than just doing laps around his track.
If you don't have the money just stay out of f1.

I dunno about the 12000 rpm. IF (very big if) they have had engineers calculating on durability and power output with correct boost from the turbo and got that the 12000 rpm is a good number then all is good.
If they just pulled 12000rpm out of a hat then i agree that its bullshit.
I don't mind the reduced amount of engines. It forces the engineers to develop more durable engines. That of course costs money so it goes straight against what FIA said they would try to achieve, but I like the concept of a powerplant with extreme power AND extreme durability.
As for supercars not having 4cylinder engines..... they dont... yet
Once again it is because its easier to get the desired power numbers from a bigger engine. But we are not talking any supercar manufacturer here. We are talking the worlds best now and they can (maybe) do it with a 4 cylinder engine.
Still... breakaway series would be nice

Supercar manufacturers don't use 4cyl engines for a reason other than the max power output.... power delivery\power curve is what makes a v8 far superior from any other sub-8 cylinder engine. A v10\v12 would be sweet.
I'm all for the breakaway series, it would send f1 bankrupt in a matter of seconds if only Ferrari, McLaren, Williams and Renault leave.
F1 with just a bunch of indian and malayisian teams? Who would watch that?
I would also like to add that we all agree when it comes to throwing mud on ferrari for some behaviors but when it comes to saving this sport they really use their "power" for the best.

Btw, if they introduced V12s I could take an rpm limiter at 12000 rpm. Just imagine a 6 liter V12 at 12000 rpm, what would you estimate the power to be *grins like a maniac*
No it really needs to be a change, a drastic change. I wouldn't mind a budget cap for a breakaway series. Something like this rulebook:
1. Budget cap is ???€
2. The air behind the car must a certain level of cleanliness (to allow close driving / overtaking)
3. Do whatever you want with the car to make it go fast within these regulations as long as the safety is upheld. (No fan cars which shoot dirt backwards)

Is it that or is Ferrari looking to continue to getting paid to race in F1 in a new agreement? Yes, there needs to be some rules stability. 2013 cars will look and function totally different than 2010. But, do you really need to threaten a breakaway series?

No, don't threaten. DO IT!

So the teams can get the sport back! Actually I don't find it right the FOM gets such a large piece of the cake considering what they contribute to the cake.
Also if the teams have the sport then FIA cannot bully them around as much. Lets face it FIA is only the grand federation for motorsports since the various racing categories recognizes them as such. But when it goes so far as it did with Max Mosley destroying an entire GP because his own agenda then you realize that FIA also needs to be taken down a peg.
That peg taking can easily happen if the teams formed their own racing series under their own regulations. Even if it was not FIA approved it would easily attract the viewers for TV and the local audience.
Like what bse said earlier, who would watch F1 if Force India was the leading force followed tightly by Malaysia Lotus? The viewers will follow Ferrari, McLaren, Red Bull, Williams, Renault etc...
I want a breakout series and a successful one. And if Ferrari manage to make this happen, then I will bow to Ferrari for once and say a big thank you.

Renault has released a rather surprising clip and conversation of Robert Kubica back during FP3 of the 2010 Bahrain GP. While he was driving around the track, he found a cellphone in his cockpit, most likely from one of his engineers.

FIA to propose F1 'windscreen' to protect drivers

Its not about holding but deflecting. Massa hit the spring straight on and the helmet and finally his skull took the brunt of it. If a windscreen had deflected it upwards Massa would instead just have gotten a glancing blow and hopefully gotten away with a minor concussion.
I think its a great idea.

Yes, i'm sure it could hold a bullet. What about a car hitting you? In that case it's not just a matter of Kj applied for a fraction of a second but rather something applying force for a longer time. This would easily break the mounts (i'm not concerned about the shield itself) and act as a press against a driver's head.
Now if they were using a design like that of redbull's jet engined prototype... So much for cutting costs lol

Fernando Alonso says he would not be worried about being team-mates with Sebastian Vettel if the world champion were to switch to Ferrari in the future. "I do not have anything in particular to say on this," Alonso said. "I would not have any problem nor fear to be faced with any team-mate because I never have. None of my team-mates has ever scored even a point more than me."
