U.S. Driver Alex Rossi To Get GP2 Ride, F1 Test Drive

They should also give this guy a chance. http://jonathansummerton.com/index2.htm
Alex Rossi, a competitor this year in one of the upper-echelon single-seater formula racing series, will drive in this weekend's GP2 race at Yas Marina Circuit and will get a test drive in a Team Lotus Formula 1 machine.
A story on the 21-year-old California native's Web site, alexanderrossi.com, stated that Rossi "showed great pace in both recent GP2 tests at Barcelona and Jerez and finished the final test session P2 after just three days in the new car."

It definitely looks better than the stupid jersey shore GP.
The funny thing is that Bernie fecklestone gives the green light to tracks completed hours before the event in the east but doesn't give a flying f**k about more respectable venues.
On a sidenote, just before the gp:
I read all of Montezemolo's comments and he is right. Let the engines do the work and simplify the aerodynamics. Since the engine only helps a car by an estimated 10% in F1 while it is one of the most important features on a road car i guess i have to agree with him.
Moreover, working on aerodynamics without real world tests and wind gallery time is even more expensive than having proper tests. They have to design a part, scrap it, design another one etc without a solid base to start off with.
It would be nice to change the format into "conferences", imho. East GP series, Northern Euro GP series, Southern EU GP, America GP series etc. Still the same teams running but different point systems so that different teams can claim a title... and a last GP to determine the overall winner with just the teams clinching a podium throghout the season competing.
Change the final track every year and you have some interesting stuff to talk about!

I don't know about a "conferences" F1 series. LeMans already has an Americas and European series and can't get enough cars to make a decent field. F1 is even more expensive.
Then there's the fact that many international companies are looking for a way to advertise world wide. F1 is a way to provide that.
An other thought:
I believe the two GP in the US should be split up to allow the exposure to linger longer in the minds of the un-initiated, also because of the weather. Mate the NY/NJ F1 with Montreal and the Texas event with Brazil.

Well the conference series would be the same as what we have today. Worldwide travelling, just a split in the points system.
Give a prize after the initial, euro round. Then the asian one, americas etc. 6-6-6 Races, 18 total + 1 as the final round. Possibly a historic track with different challenges than most modern ones. Dijon is short and extremely strange, the ol' ring is a dangerous mess, imola is full of up and downs and tracks like donington and mugello are extremely narrow.

Yes but it's extremely narrow still, like most modern track anyway.
They keep blaming the cars and the driver for the lack of overtakes.
The reality is that nowadays the cars are so fast that the tracks are proportionally narrower!
That's not the case for SPA and Silverstone, where you see a lot of great action but think about the other tracks... 1 more meter would make a hell of a difference.

Alonso is showing off again what he is made off. With vettel out he is stable in second position... with the third best car. Massa is sixth, as usual... More than 30 secs behind him.

Austin's Circuit of the Americas suspends track construction; race under threat
Read more: http://www.autoweek.com/article/2011...#ixzz1dqbYyIpJ
The planned 2012 United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas near Austin, Texas, on Tuesday afternoon suffered another potentially catastrophic blow when organizers announced that they have stopped construction on the new racetrack.
The announcement came just hours after the revelation by Texas state comptroller Susan Combs that no money from the state's Major Events Trust Fund will be paid before the race takes place, apparently meaning that there is no state money available to pay Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone's $25 million sanctioning fee, at least not prior to the race as planned originally. And if history is any sort of measuring stick, anyone who follows F1 knows Ecclestone and his travelling circus do not show up until he has been paid in full.

+ 1 !!!!
Damn... WTF?? Who gives a $$#@ about a street circuit? I WAS at the COTA site 2 weeks ago and Turn 1 is IMPRESSIVE! The circuit is a combination of Eau Reuge (Spa) + Laguna Seca (turn 1-2) double apex, Hockenheim, so on....you get my drift..
The elevation is impressive... the cars will be flying up hill at close to 150 MPH before they brake hard and take a 180 degree turn (turn 1) and then a combination of S's (single 8) followed thereafter...
This is a BIG blow... this was ONE of the main reasons I was staying in TX. Damn...

Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2011, will go down as the day when the racing died in Austin, Texas. The 2012 Formula One United States Grand Prix and the track that would host it, the Circuit of the Americas, were dealt a one-two punch that seems unsurvivable--though neither the race nor the track has formally been pronounced dead.
American Michael Lewis tests a 2009 Ferrari
American racer Michael Lewis on Tuesday tested a 2009 Ferrari Formula One car at the Vallelunga track near Rome. The outing was his prize for being the top rookie this season in the Italian Formula Three series.

I wonder whether RB's statements of warning to Vettel represent strategy to ensure that Webber will get the win so they can lock up positions 1 and 2 in the driver's standings. Team strategy perhaps?
