Vettel has been a machine all weekend. I thought it was interesting how well Schumacher did as well in such a shitty car. They both seemed to come to terms with the track quite quickly and went to task cranking out fast laps.

It appears Hamilton finally was able to get some pace and finish only a tenth behind, was not what I was expecting, I thought this was going to be another qualifying where Vettel leaves them all standing there scratching their heads.

The track is fantastic, wonderful layout and I hope it proves to be helpful in creating an exciting race.

Turn 1 lap 1, I disagree with Lewis, I think it is going to be mayhem. But, I hope I am wrong.

I hope it is going to be mayhem... between vettel and him
Unfortunately Alonso will hit a pidgeon after surviving turn 1... that's how lucky he is.

I'm surprised he had done as well as he has with the car Ferrari has provided him.

Agreed, watching Alonso in car, he is wrestling a mess of a car around that track.

I was surprised, as well, to see Massa do so well this weekend.

L. to R.

Seb Vettel - Jenson Button - Lewis Hamilton - Kimi Raikkonen - Fernando Alonso - Michael Shumacher - Mika Hakkinen - Jacques Villeneuve - Damon Hill

I am surprised they did not get Niki Lauda and Jackie Stewart to sit in.

Do they all have a common denominator (Champions)? Who's the second from the right?

^That's Jacques, Al. I had the same reaction as you the first two times I looked at the pic - first time was "ok, I recognize everyone except that mechanic or designer or somebody's dad", then again "damn, who is that dude among all the other current or past drivers". Then it hit me. Him and Mika sure dropped off the map rather quick, didn't they?

As for the race - here's hoping Vet DNFs. Of course Alonso would still have to be in the top 2 for any kind of title hopes.

Sorry about that, I assumed everyone would be recognized, I agree I was surprised by JV's look.

Added names to the bottom of the pic.

Let the games begin!!

Ferrari has opened up Massa's gearbox in order to cause a 5 spot grid penalty, this causes Alonso to pick up 1 grid spot and more importantly, move over to the clean side of the track.

*edit* damn you bse50 scooping me.

I think they did something very smart. Alonso will drive an extremely aggressive race.

I would die laughing if RBR open Webers gear box and slide Alonso back over to the dirty side of the track.

I thought Ferrari was letting Massa hit Vettel since Alonso stated that he had a feeling he would reduce the gap today...: Alonso: I

My DVR, which is set to record all F1 programming, let me down. I was watching football and tuned over to the race, only to realize that I wasn't recording. Now I've missed the first part and will have to watch/record the late rebroadcast.

I want a picture of that fly-over. A F16, 2 P51's and a P38.
I thought the hats were a nice unique touch.

Back in 1978, when Mario Andretti became champion and the year I became involved with auto racing, it was difficult to follow F1 in the U.S. There wasn't any internet (as we know it today), the newspapers didn't report what was happening and there wasn't a network dedicated to motorsports. It was a few years later that a program called Motorweek Illustrated (hosted by Dave Despain) came on Saturday nites to update us on whats happening. Then ESPN started and it first provided much of our motorsports broadcasts, along with the Nashville Network (now called Spike). Then along came Speedvision, which changed to Speed when Fox bought the network.
A lot has changed for us Formula One and motorsports enthusiasts in 35 yrs.

Possibly the last win for Lewis for a while. The Mercedes cars were just horrible today.

Bring on Brazil!!

Home run for Austin and COTA, fantastic track, great racing everywhere, and cowboy Pirelli hats for the winners. LOL!! Oh and Mario interviewing them, was fantastic as well.

BTW - I read on Twiter from Paul Hembery that the hats were bespoke just for this race. Very classy.
