The only thing that surprised me, about the video, was that they used a drafting table. I would have thought that all design work was done on computer from the start.

That's newey's way.
The width of the gears is what surprised me the most.

it's because of the black belly. Makes the car look thinner and more stretched out.

I wonder why some teams adopted vanity fairings while others didn't.

They must have found some aero advantages in either solution.

I saw a video on Red Bull and Newey. He's the only one in F1 that still uses a drafting table. It was a neat show. He actually drove some of the F1 cars he designed including an RB. Christian Horner puckered up while Newey was driving the RB. He was running flat out through several corners :-)

Edit: here's the video

The Mercedes on track day 1 with Nico Rosberg seems good so far.

Sergio Perez enjoys first day in his new office - Autoweek

Sergio Perez finally had his first run in a McLaren at Jerez today, over four months after his deal for 2012 was announced.

The Mexican finished the day a modest seventh overall after running 81 laps, but it was all about learning the car and team, and getting himself comfortable.

In fact, Perez wasn’t entirely happy with his seating position, although overall he was delighted with progress.

“It was a very good day in terms of getting into the new office. It’s much more different than I expected, just by feeling, by sitting in a different seat, it’s so much different that you have to adapt yourself to a different position, different way to hold the steering wheel. Pretty much everything is different from the pedals to the steering wheel, everything is different, so it’s pretty much starting from zero.

Formula One America - Why You Should Be Watching F1 - Esquire

Formula One management wants three American races per year. Whether or not that happens, ...
I knew about two (Austin & NY/NJ). Where is the third, California?

If Mexico, where does that leave Montreal? That N.Am. too.

My guess is that they mean 3 new tracks, and including Austin in that total even though the other two (NJ, somewherez in mejico) haven't been finalized.

Or, if we look at it your way and they're counting Montreal as one of the 3, then we can assume that they're just adding Jersey, and therefore, no plans for south of the border venue.

Honda may have secret F1 turbo engine project in progress | YallaF1.com

....noticed this interesting little gem this morning. Wouldn't it be something if McLaren gave the big FU to Mercedes and went back to Honda!?!?! I mean they poached their star driver AND technical boss...shouldn't be much love lost between the 2. Personally, for nostalgic reasons, I'd love to see Honda go back to McLaren, go back to the orange and white livery and start dominating the **** out of the series....

In my fantasy world, Mr Lew will pass Seb's title record, while also becoming a less glamour conscious person, imbued with a new dose of humility.

Ha ha! I did say it was fantasy (Clearly not based upon evidence).

LOL!!!! ......."dream the impossible dream" or however the damn song goes, hahahah. Yeah, MAYBE he can catch and pass Vettle's championship tally, but as far as the humility and less glamour...wellllll, the guy wears 2 earings for crying out loud, hahahahahahaha And his girlfriend is old enough to be his aunt, hahahahahahahah. But seriously, i'm a bit torn....I'm a fan of Lewis' DRIVING and on track performance, but I've always been a fan of McLaren. Damn...I sure wish the 17th would hurry the hell up! OH, did you see, Lewis beat Vettle's time in the "star in a reasonably priced car" on Top Gear

I can't stand seeing him lose focus when his talent is so great and it's the typical human story; fame and fortune seem to fatten us up, make us dull and confuse us into thinking we are some level of God. That being said, he did destroy the time set by Vettel .

Isn't it by definition that all the teams have secret turbo projects?

Lewis put on a show today. Is this indicative of the season beginning pace?
