I'd still get the manual though, given a choice.

I saw that, but the manual is limited too. You can only rev to 5500. I don't see how the twin clutch system will be a lot different. Launching an AWD car is pretty tricky from most accounts so I wouldn't be surprised if the computer controlled MR improves this a tad. Then again, I don't know if you'll be able to rev well passed red line like they did for the manual. Then again, I don't know if you'd even want to given the speed at which the twin clutch can upshift. Lots of question marks I guess.
I was happy to see that there will be some exterior chrome accents on the MR. Hopefully these won't be tacky looking.

This is kind of what I expected... I think I'm going to end up seeing what the aftermarket can do with the usual boltons before even considering the X. I'll also be taking a serious look at the new STI, 135i, and Camaro SS. One thing is for sure, I'm feeling pretty good about my resale value right now. I think the 4G63 and the Evo 8/9 is the last we'll see of mass produced cars that are raw focused drivers cars capable of making gobs of power with minimal mods. The chances of the Evo 8/9 being the Supra of this generation seem pretty secure.

The guys on the Evo boards make some pretty good points about the discrepancies between the C&D numbers and the leaked JDM brochure -- specifically the peak torque value and rpm.
I wouldn't trust this article to accurately reflect what a US-spec production version will do. However, what they say about the steering is almost certainly accurate given the amount of electronics that have been added to make it more user-friendly.
The Evo has evolved from the very beginning. Some say the best version was the VI and that every iteration since then has eroded more and more of the rawness that made it great. In the end it's still an Evo and it still has a cheap *** interior.

If i was to consider an evo X the aftermarket will greatly sway my decision. Even though I bought an 04 rx8 with the first year renesis, i usually preach and stay clear of first year new engines. Now with the evo 8's and 9's that engine has been relatively the same for years, and for about $1500 alot of aftermarket packages will have 300 whp. But this new year engine I believe will have to match the old ones "mod" factor, if it cannot I don't see it selling as much as the older evo's.
Hell if they even have trouble simply flashing new tunes to the X's ecu the tuner crowd will cry blasphemy.

how long is the slalom, is it a set ft in between each cone, or is it a percentage of the cars length???

I love the speculations, it makes the internet fun. I bet the tuners will have the launch control and any other driving aids figured out in less than 6 months, then it is game on.

The tuners can complain all they want. I don't think there's much of anything that will keep the sales numbers for the new Evo down. Everyone pisses and moans with every new iteration of the Eclipse and every single time it sells more and more.

good point, but from what they had with the 2nd gen eclipse compared to now's 4th gen it shows they cared nothing for the aftermarket (though it wasn't as large as it is now back in the mid 90's). Those 2nd gen eclipses were our mid 90's evo and mitsu decided to aim for a different buyer to sell more cars, i just hope they don't make the same decision for the evo X. Yes the eclipse sold more and more but it complete lost it's sport car heritage.

I have no doubt they'll sell more Evo X's than the two previous versions, it's just going to be a different crowd buying them.

Well, it's official:
http://www.autoblog.com/2007/10/01/o...r-evolution-x/
I guess nothing too outrageous here. Points of interest are that the Evo X was released in Japan on October 1 in GSR and RS trims. The RS is missing the wing and S-AWC, comes in two colors, and only comes in a manual gearbox. The GSR seems to be the standard model with options that can make it equivalent to the current MR including upgraded shocks, tires, wheels, brakes, transmission, multimedia/nav system, and keyless entry.
The GSR has an MSRP of 3,495,450 ¥ ($30,298) with the SST option costing an additional 255,150 ¥ ($2,211). The RS model is set at 2,997,750 ¥ ($25,984). Obviously, the dollar values aren't going to be exactly what these things cost when they actually arrive here -- just an estimate.

I generally don't like white on cars, but after seeing my friend's white Evo VIII I definitely changed my mind. White on the Evo works really well with all those sharp lines. Classes it up a bit.

Also present at the track was a U.S.-spec 5-speed manual Evo IX, which I took for a few hot laps for comparison. "The Evo X is a nicer car," I told Fujii, "but the Evo IX is edgier and quicker."
Fujii responded barely above a whisper: "The Evo IX just seems quicker. I'm positive that the Evo X is faster around the track. The AYC gives it that edge, and you lose nothing with the TC-SST in S-Sport, even in full auto mode."
No way. This time, I had someone clock me. First up was the Evo IX. The car took off like a bullet, and it exhibited amazing balance through the sweepers and esses. The IX clocked in at 1 minute 55.20 sec. Now it was time for the Evo X in full auto mode. The TC-SST was fantastic, shifting exactly where I would have if I were in control. Also, I realized I was doing much less steering through most of the corners because the car wasn't getting out of shape. I went through the esses without any steering correction, virtually flat-out. I crossed the finish line in 1:54.18, more than a second faster than the IX!
