They're saying the car will probably retail closer to $60,000. For that kind of coin, you're getting into Porsche territory. I think most people would not consider a Toyota for that price tag.
Toyota needs a $30-$40K sportscar. Period.

I am happy to just see Toyota considering something with two doors, rwd, and affordable. They are severely lacking in this department for all their success. I like they are trying something new though I am not really a fan of hybrid at this point.

I still don't see too many people buying a 50k Toyota. They will sell some the first year and then it will taper off alot in year two just like the even more expensive Nissan GT-R. At least Nissan offers a top of the brand high-performance care and an affordable performance car. Toyota has nothing. Other than the Supra Toyota has never produced a serious performance vehicle to my knowledge. I would not classify the Celica or MR2 as serious or even performance vehicles.

The concept is ugly no matter how much I look at it. (Do kinda like the back though.) If they come out with it there is no way that it will look that dramatic. Toyota has built success by being safe and bland.

I agree that it'll be a watered down a lot if it ever comes into production. 30-35k is about as much as anyone would pay for a Toyota I think. and at that price, they cant make something similar to the concept shown period.

^^ Yes, but they built the Lexus brand as their "Luxury" (read expensive) division
People will pay $40Grand for a "lexus" becuse they are paying for the name brand prestige, and for a dealership service department that will do anything short of getting you the "exotic asian masseus"
If Toyota plans on fleecing more than 35k for a new Supra, the thing better be marketed as a Lexus.
The Supra name itself doesn't really justify the price. (even MKIV's were going for cheap before the "The Slow and the Annoyying" made them fashionable again

toyota landcruiser starts at 56,000 dollars, and they apparently sell enough of it to justify its existence in their lineup for all these years. they have teams of economists that project sales and pricing. they are capable of building a low volume expensive model that sells a few thousand units a year yet still turn a profit, its not difficult to do especially for cars like the GT-R or this one that shares platform and other parts with other cars.
if they build it and the performance is great and a good car, people will buy it for a lot more than 30k, especially car enthusiasts who tend to be a lot less brand conscious and willing to pay a higher portion of their income on cars.
