Yes Matt...
30 Kms per Litre of Gas or 70 MPG, from a Gasoline ENGINE!...no Hybrid!
In New Mazda 2 early next year with SKY Engines and Trans.
I wonder if the Body will be a restyle??
It will be technically 4 Years old, and they did say SKY will not fit in existing Engine Bay platforms..
it will be interesting...

in my opinion the 2 "SKY'ed" JDM DEMIO is with the US and EU restyling body...i don't see the possibility of a entire new 2 and the new platform is not scheduled for the 2/Demio at today ...(read somewhere the past month).
maybe they have changed some plan for SKY launch (some anticipation?).
Hospitals are always sad places, especially with a parent o related inside.....i'm with you Ash....(i've my "problems" with hospitals too...)

Wow! Is my conversion correct? 30km/L would equate to 70 mpg from the updated Japanese market Mazda 2 (Demio). That's more than twice it's current mileage in the US version.
Where's the SKYACTIV-RE?
Paul.

Step back and take a deep breath, let it out and think about these claims. Think about all the other marketing claims we have heard over the years. Wait until it is out in a production prototype at least before you believe what they are telling you.

(see picture)
Mazda executives had always bespoke of "hybrid-like" consumption without the costs of an hybrid apparatus....
for a comparo, the claim for the Miller-cycle current Demio (called 13 C-V) ,the most sober of entire lineup of Demio in Japan is 23,0 Km/l (japanese standard cycle)

where did the "SKYACTIV" branding come from all of a sudden? is that to differentiate between research and production?
70 on the Japanese standard testing is like 55-60 mpg on the US testing

The thing that I find most interesting is that both the gasoline and diesel engines have the exact same 14.0:1 compression ratio which is high for gasoline but low for diesel. Another thing I also find interesting is that the gasoline engine has "cavity pistons, multihole injectors and other innovations". Just for the sake of comparison, a diesel engine has cavity pistons and multihole injectors.
What we are seeing here is the first true blend of diesel and gasoline engine parts and technology which is brilliant. Imagine the day when you can have an engine that can run on either gasoline or diesel. That would be the next step.

I agree RG.. I think I read somewhere that Mazda are using the exact same "short engine" block/pistons/crank for both SKY G and D motors??!!
BTW: I would be very careful about getting too excited with Mazda's claim of 70 MPG in the new Mazda 2/SKY-G.
They (MMC) rate the current Mazda 2 1.5 at 63 MPG, by their Japanese Authority testing.
Reality is you don't get those numbers with US ratings test.

I find that the new EPA estimates for mileage are completely bogus and that the old way they changed from a couple of years ago was more accurate. There were many people who floored it everywhere they went who couldn't hit the EPA numbers who then cried about it so the numbers were changed a bit lower as a result. I have never had a problem hitting those numbers and even exceeding them. Even with the old standard. Whatever number they finally settle on here, I know I'll beat it.
