Looks more like they trying to copy Davids Farm (youtube).
Nice of them to wait till AFTER the peak of US sports and aftermarket driving to start the show. Great economic thinkers there.

I think it'll be OK. Why does everyone compare things in absolutes? Everything either sucks or its awesome. Will it be as great as the British Top Gear? Probably not. Doesn't mean it can't still be a great show.

This is the same problem that i see with video games, specifically MMO's. Nothing is ever as good as World of Warcraft. You havent even seen the new series, and you are already saying its crap. It wont feel the same as the original, but you know why, because its not. Sure its got the same name, and some of the same features, but they are still their own entity, and the US version could still hold its own.
That being said, i still enjoy Top Gear everytime i watch it, and it will probably take a while for the US version to get to that level. Which in the "i have to have it now" mentality, means it will get cancelled after half a season, because people are stupid.

I don't think going directly into used car challenges is the way to go; they need to build chemistry first. Half the fun of the TG challenges is the three picking apart each other's cars.
I'd like to see if they can do an intelligent car review without going "DURRRRRR! DONUTS! BURN OUT! VROOOM!"
Seriously. The first few episodes didn't have James May, but another guy talking about used car prices.

wow same type of response from those on a 240SX board I am on.
The show shouldn't be compared to the original. Doing so is akin to what many have said about the Rx-8 and comparing it to the Rx-7. Yes its based off the Rotary but each is different in what it hopes to achieve. The UK Top Gear knows what works for their viewers and how to pull it off. The US version sadly will have to find their own nitch.
Though sadly one thing they have going against them in Rutledge and his NASCAR connection which I'm sure we can all agree was added due to them thinking "Instant Fan Base!", hell look at the first episode of moonshine running UGH! Tanner while so-so on camera atleast he has cred in terms of driving and knowing what the cars should handle like. The other guy I dunno looks like they picked some random comedian that was Italian, guess Tony Danza wasnt ready to work on Tv again.
For me I'll watch it and hold out hope I bust a gut laughing and pray it gets better. Also Adam Corolla also stated that if the show makes it to a second season he'd love to join but wasnt able to due to contract crap.
Best trio would of been
Adam Corolla, Jay Leno, and Tommy Kendall
But alas I can only dream.
