Here's some good news for Corvette fans. Chevrolet and Corvette Racing have announced a road version of their American LeMans C6R - the 2009 Corvette GT1 Championship Editions.

Notice the plural of "Editions" because this is actually a performance package that you can choose, at a price of 7,840 US dollars, for 3 separate Corvette models - the Coupe 4LT, Convertible 4LT or the Z06 3LZ.

The 4LT Coupe or Convertible get the Z51 performance package and an NPP Performance Exhaust.

All models get the Corvette Racing "Jake" graphics do up, ZR1-style chrome wheels and spoiler, customer leather Ebony Interior with yellow stitching, engine cover with carbon pattern and yellow Corvette lettering, and GT1 embroidered leather seats along with GT1 tags on the center console and instrument panel.

Basically, much of the appeal seems to be that this car is dressed up for the track but you can take it on the road.

But given that GM just shut down its performance division, HPVO, one has to take it as positive news that GM hasn't let itself go completely and is still dressing up the Corvette for a glitzy night on the town.

Prices (in US dollars) are: Coupe 4LT ($65,310), Convertible 4LT ($71,815), and Z06 3LZ ($86,385).

it's soooooo..........American

i'm not sure how i feel about it - really not a fan of the chrome wheels or the wheel gap - though i'm sure the power is there. The styling could really use some work IMO.

yah, like the hood design. maybe if they went with something smaller, i feel it would be alot better looking. but these gawdy designs killed it. i know alot of vette fans wouldnt care, but that style is so 80's looking.

From the side picture, the *** looks so huge. I feel like I'm looking at one of those stereotypical black girls in movies with their 'budonkudonk'.

It's tought for me to decide how ugly it is with all that yellow & horrid graphic stuff all over it.

But I'm not really digging what I see there.

Will the dealer be verifying that buyers have the requisite mullet and tacky gold chain before processing the order?

LOL! C'mon fellas its not that bad!

The Z-06 pictured there looks lifted and it looks like its riding on larger profile tires, which is odd. The "Jake" logo is a little over the top for the street Corvette, its look is better suited for the track. Although I have a hunch that logo will look great on the black on black Corvettes.

I agree I've seen a lot worse. I mean I would rather just modify another "normal" z06 in a different color and not buy a special edition for extra money. But it isn't horrible...

I quite like that. I would like to see the black version.

And it looks a lot better than when mazda decides to make a special edition painted like a race car.

Eh, a drop and some aggressive black rims would change the whole look. Would look mean(er).
