You didn't. I was just rambling because the 8 is the most enjoyable car I've ever owned. But buying another car just because it's faster and claiming it's more fun to drive isn't exactly a smart move. I've driven faster cars than the 8 and I didn't exactly find it more enjoyable. I suppose people should all buy v8's now so they don't lose races.

Pardon my ignorace, is he talking about a Subie? Although I don't think they are Butt ugly, they do tend to be a love/hate look.
Just checked Edmunds, MSRP is $33,495 starting price.
Listed as 293 HP/ 290lbs/ft torque.

You're correct, Slavearm was just pulling prices out of his ***.

I have cruised with a few STI guys and the STI stock puts about 245 to the wheels, but I guess you already knew that. Don't get me wrong though, the STI is a beast for what it is, it is all about performance. I respect that, but I think the RX-8's time to shine isn't too far away, and to jump off the boat now when things are starting to shape up is a damned shame.

I still suprise on how many ppl in US think STI is ugly. I guess since i have alwasy been a fan of rally racing. Sti has always been my favorite rally car since 95, then celica 94 awd turbo. I think the new sti looks cool with the new face. I think taste here compared to japan is different some what. im not a sticker person though.

as for OP gl on your purchase.

The new Subie front end theme is BUTT ugly. The new WRX should be a bit more upscale looking. I'd still get a MS3 and save money.

Yeah, sounds like he bought the wrong car. I think edmunds.com said it best in their RX-8 vs. 350Z shootout:

"The 350Z is faster. But the RX-8 is the better sports car."

Many people here don't "get" that faster doesn't necessarily mean better.

Well, I think a lot of people tend to "get" it, but there are just people out there that could honestly care less about how well a car handles or how nice the balance is. It seems to me that while some people can appreciate a sharp handling car, there are still plenty of folks who just want a pedal masher. It's easier to feel like you've purchased a fast car when it's got a big engine. It could handle like a brick and set the world's slowest lap times, but if it throws you back in the seat when you hit the gas, you feel like you're going fast and that's all some people want.

Personally, I don't really care how fast I can race up to cruising speed on my daily drive so much as I care about how well the car responds to me overall.

Now, how the hell the "all-go" folks end up in an RX8, I'll never understand. It's not like it's hard to tell that this car is on the lower end of the power spectrum.

AGREED. I actually chose between the 8 and the Z but chose the 8 because it was more fun to drive and, imo, felt more like a sports car. I'll take a car that I can kill curves in and have fun in rather than do well on the straights in.

Enjoy the new car. STi's are great vehicles.

I have no problem with that.

I find the parting shots a little questionable, though.

Didn't mean for it to sound like the 8 can't do straights. Just meant that, compared to other cars, it's generally more known for better handling as opposed to being a rocket (though its still speedy enough for me). Ya dig?

Good luck with WRX and try not to break it cause their parts are more expensive than mazda, those lsd's are like almost 1k a pop if not more. Enjoy it

You mean the faster, more modable, and better handling darkside?

slightly faster stock, more modable i would have to say no and better handleing stock....
now you build the block drop a gt30 or 35 in it new springs and shocks. add in the other supporting mods (ecu, up/down pipe, exhaust ect) the are about equil i have done a fair bit of work on wrx's i know what subaru has done in the past, how well the cars run. i myself would MUCH rather have a ru than an evo...not sayin that mitsu doesnt know what they are doing but its like comparing an 8 to a 350 or a s2k, i know subaru heratage. the the important thing is hes gonna go in the snow... and when he starts rally X i want pics!!! but i could throw cheaper in there too and say cobalt ss or srt4 neon. they are quick lil cars but no snow or wet roads for them. either way with the evo or sti you will love the power of awd and when you catch the modding bug make buddies with the tunner garage so you can have your comp tuned

The STI injectors are at their limit with a few boltons in the STI so simple mods are often more expensive on the STI. The turbo is smaller so the potential on a stock turbo is much greater on the Evo. The block doesn't need to be built on the Evo running a GT30R or 35R. Last I checked there were more 900+ whp Evos in the US than there are 600+whp STIs. I'm not saying the STI doesn't have a lot of potential, but the Evo trumps it every step of the way when it comes to mods. Just take a look at the two Subaru vs. STI shootouts they hold each year. The Subys get whooped and whooped badly.

I traded a WRX for my Evo, I was dead set on getting the STI and still love the STI and my WRX was a wonderful car. But when it comes down to it, if you want the best performance car the Evo is it. Overall which is better really depends on where your priorities lie. If I had any intention of keeping the car stock I may have bought the STI. Though the steering feel on the Evo is what really cinched it for me. The fact that my local Mitsubishi dealer is very mod friendly certainly helped as well.

PRAISE you dealer, but i know when my bro had his wrx he was stage 4 with a vf 22 and should he have been boosting any more he would have to have a built block. the ease of geting things for your car isnt all that had my bro got alot of promo stuff for going on the akarally just for puttin on stickers. on the other forum i am on one guy has a gt 35 on and he has blown headgaskets due to too much boost. dont get me wrong the evo is a GREAT car but I prefer a sti to an evo. but thats why there are diffrent cars. the limiter of the wrx is the trans. they are almost made of glass. in 2004 the limiter to the sti's were the injectors but then they knocked the bhp down because the injectors were maxed out and they can be "adjusted" with a dremal tool and time... if you want to get into doing it all you can get your 2.5 bored to a 2.7, alchy injection/water injection, turbo, pipes, ecu.... the list goes on. and i know when you start tuning the reliablily goes down but i know that the ru is very dependable and is what i would want if i were in the same situation. thats my 2 cents...

it makes sence doesnt it? havnt you ever been just crusing along, and just WISH you could have gotten to 60mph just 1 sec faster!

also.. how the hell did this turn into a 8 vs Z thread? you guys keep nagging and comparing the rx8 to the 350z liek you have to justify your choice in picking the car
