Placement of Radar Detector

Placement of Radar Detector
Where is the best place to put a radar detector in an RX-8?
I would like to place one in a location that works well but it isn't easily visible (or not visible at all if possible).

I have mine up in the black right above my rear view mirror. I did a lot of tests to see if that black stuff reduced the sensitivity. I then placed it so the bottom of the detector almost touches the top of the mirrror. It works great and can't be seen from the front through the black area. I put it on the Dark setting at night so it can't be seen from the back either.
All stealth is lost if you don't get it hardwired tho. That cord running to the lighter is a dead giveaway!

Radar detector? What radar detector?

I have mine right behind the rear view mirror so that the LCD screen peeks from under the mirror.. my mirror is raised all the way up tho.. You can hardly see it when driving towards me.. I also have mine hardwired into the homelink..
police34?? You wouldn't pull ME over would you? I guess I shouldn't have told him the times/days/and routes i drive through his patrol area

with my last car i mounted it at the top center of the front window. worked great, it was only a cobra but it saved me from getting tickets from speed traps, the only times i got speeding tickets was when i was getting paced by undercover cops, includin a white benz, green dodge caravan and silver pontiac grandam

Laser......
Between the roof and mirror is perfect for radar, but awful for laser, the 'eye' is usually on top.
It is possible to get some laser range if you mount the unit upside down, with the laser eye peaking out from the black stuff!
Mine also takes off from the mirror power.

Mounted on glass to the left of the mirror.
As said, the key to discretion is having it hardwired.

Have people had good luck with the Valentine series? Just wondering before I drop $400 on one. Although I figure it's spend the money now, or later in a series of $150 tickets. Just want to make sure the $400 is worth it from people who have experience with them.
Wasn't really necessary when I was speeding in my protege.

Totally worth it, the bogey counter has saved me from false alarms many a time.
And its sensitive as heck also, I get at least a 1/2 mile warning on any police radar.

My Valentine has alerted me to speed traps innumerable times. It's only failed me once, when I was cresting a hill at 80 with a sharp cop oncoming on a two-lane highway. Nailed me before V1 could alert and I could react. There are other quality units in the $300 + range, but the multiple-bogey counter and the directional indicators are very valuable.

Placement of Radar Detector
When I had a radar detector I had it mounted in the passenger side headrest. Pulled the leather off and cut a rectangular hole out of the foam to stick it in. The unit was then wired down into the seat and took power off spare connection under the seat near pwr amp. The power could be cut off with an old foot operated dimmer switch mounted up under the firewall behind the rubber insulation/padding.
Works slick up there cathching waves front and back. Different car yes I know, not the 8.
