reading about the ownership history of some of these companies is really interesting, some like Ford and Ferrari are just family owned, but some like Audi and Subaru have these really convoluted histories

Toyota owns a large stake in Subaru (they bought out GMs share as I recall) thus the joint FRS/BRZ venture.

*Edit: Looks like it's 16.7% ownership. (Technically in Fuji Heavy Industries the parent company.)

The sharing of platform with Alfa could save a lot of money for both, is not the same case compared to the 90's Mazda fail in luxury market....

engines?

we have the SA pistons (2.5 -maybe SCharged- and 2.2 diesel) and eventually a SKY-RE for higher spec versions..

a couple of SA engine are SURELY suited for RWD mounting (see ND)...

i don't see an enormous investment in terms of money...the bigger part is the platform, and this thing can be shared...

it will NOT be the same case of Subaru/toyota...both cars will be different in style and engines and manufactured in different places...

Revised..Forget about all the "model brand names" they are still owned by the same company/shareholders today (not 20 years ago)...badge engineering is also excluded in my ownership of a brand or company.

BMW owns: Mini and Rolls Royce.

Fiat owns: Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Dodge, Ferrari, Jeep, Lancia, Maserati, and Ram.

Ford Motor Company owns: Lincoln.

General Motors owns: Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, and GMC. GM owns a controlling interest in Daewoo, as well as Opel and Vauxhall in Europe and Holden in Australia. (The U.S. government also owns large stake in GM.)

Honda owns: Acura.

Hyundai owns: Kia.

Tata Motors (India) owns: Jaguar and Land Rover.

Mazda is independently owned.

Mitsubishi is independently owned.

Daimler AG owns: Mercedes-Benz and Smart.

Nissan owns: Infiniti. (Nissan, in turn, is owned by Renault.)

PSA Peugeot owns: Citroen.

Saab is owned by National Electric Vehicle Sweden (NEVS).

Subaru: Owned by Fuji Heavy Industries with Toyota a minority partner.

Tesla: Toyota is a minority partner. Partnership with Daimler AG

Toyota Motor Company owns: Lexus, Scion, Daihatsu and Hino Motors, with a stake in Fuji Industries (Subaru's parent company) and Isuzu.

Volkswagen owns: Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Porsche, and overseas-brands SEAT and Skoda.

Volvo is owned by Chinese-automaker Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, aka Geely
