What makes you think the RS4 has better brakes or suspension?

I'd be shocked if the M3 doesn't out perform and out fun the RS4.

I'm not really impressed, especially if it weighs more than 3400lb.

the 335i doesn't get a limited slip i believe, so you'd have to install one of those on a 335i before you start trying to take out the new M3.

hey brillo - can you explain your LSD comment? i know what one does, but how would it effect ones ability to hang with an M3 on the road say from a red light or whatnot?

i think i'll pass on the E92. the E46 (controversial reliability be damned) was the closest i came to owning a BMW and if circumstance didn't dictate my buying my Rx-8, that's probably what i would have bought. however, i'll take the Audi S4/RS4 or the coming S5 any day of the week.

I would think that the lack of a LSD would affect the 335i coming out of corners when one is attempting to put a lot of power to the ground. Without a LSD, the 335i is hampered getting the most of its horsepower to the wheel with the most traction.

I read that the 335i is a much better daily driver than the current M3 due to its better ride. I wonder how harsh or not the new M3 will be.

well -- playing on BMW's website the base 335i weights 3600lbs (ick) the convertible is 4000lbs!!! jesus even with Vishnu tunings mods and stuff 4K lbs is a whale.

The range of money that I'm willing to spend leaves a VERY large amount of cars open for purchase. From the EvoX, Cayman S, to the GT-R.

The upper limit of my range is going to be the GTR from what ive seen there will be 3 "levels" of trim ranging from the base at 65ish all the way up to the carbon fiber decked out one at 100K. No way in hell am I getting the top of the line bastard.

And the weight is not yet confirmed, as far as I have seen. Sub 3500lbs doesn't seem to heavy to me for what it is.
From BMW:

http://www.autoblog.com/2007/04/06/o...-bmw-m3-coupe/

Unique character and supreme driving dynamics secure leading position in the market segment, unique combination of engine power and low weight ensured by intelligent lightweight technology, power-to-weight ratio 3.8 kg/hp.

at 420hp, 3.8kg/hp x 2.2 lb/kg x 420 hp = 3511 lbs

As for price, I would assume something in the 60s. Which is Used Evo + Used Elise money, both cars which will be more engaging.

looks great from the front & rear. still on the fence about the profile view. seems a bit long and the lines of each panel don't seem fluid enough. still overall a nice looking machine.

No offense, but do you realize how often you tell all of us that you're going to get an M3 or a GT-R next year when you sell your car? I mean, this has got to be the 8th time in a month and a half. I feel like it's bordering on trying to show off how much money you have or something. Maybe it's just me.

the cost of owning an m3 is almost as frightening as the price tag, unfortunately. everything is expensive- from tires, brake pads, oil changes to insurance- not to mention gas mileage similar to ours. i guess u get to brag about owning an m3. <shrugs>

bmws maintenance is free during the duration of the warranty, most bmw dearlerships are also very nice and are glad to replace wear and tear items for free.

once the warranty, runs out, thats when all hell breaks loose. Thats why a lot of people tend to want to sell their M3 or bmw in general once the warranty goes out.

some people seem to have this notion that they are getting car X because they want to impress people and be noticed, pull girls etc...

yet, M3 is not meant to be one of those cars... bmw's intention of M3 is to be a subtle luxury family car that perform like a sports car. While the M badge is nothing short of legendary in the auto enthusiast circle, it is really not that well known in the general public. The majority of the people dosn't differentiate it from a regular 3 series. Its a stealth wolf in sheeps clothing type of mentality. Thats why im a big fan of the car because of its subtleness and that it dosn't stand out and grab too much attention.

I honestly don't understand the logic behind some people who want the M3 so they can ride around town impressing people and turn heads. I keep reading comments from a selected few potential M3 buyers that they want to ride around town and let people see them in a M3... You probably turn way more heads in a RX8 than a M3 ever would.

I think thats pretty shallow too, if anyone feel the need to use a car to boost their self esteem or show off, or to pull girls. Its like ones trying to make up for something he/she lacks? you should only be concerned about your own enjoyment, not what other people think of you.

saturn: its no different really then the thread of "whats your next car going to be"

I'm excited at the options I will have in one year and those two cars are at the top of my list for an actual chance of ownership. I don't feel like I am showing off - im just really excited about the idea and eat up any bits of information on either car that surface over time. I'm very intersted in the pros/cons of each car and peoples ideas on each.

Detrich: i wont argue that the cost of ownership would be higher - one thing that does help offset is the fact that it would come with free 50K mile maintaince (sp?) everything from oil to pads, to windshield wiper blades.

Then using that analogy .............

As a friend of mine jokes, M3 buyers seem to be the most insecure and trying to impress everyone else. For that matter, a lot of BMW drivers in general.

I do agree with you - I've gotten lots of attention in my RX8 and would feel that if i had an M3, I wouldnt get the "hey thats a cool car" everytime I go to fill up or my neighbors coming to talk to me about it at my complex. I agree as well that a car should be about your own enjoyment, however to me (for big chunks of money for an RX8, M3, whatever -- I demand show with my go hehe) All of us know what its like to be driving around and see a really badass car, maybe an exotic buzzing around town and you think to yourself for a moment how sweet the ride is and how you want it, for the money I want a little piece of that as well. Having a normal and cookie cutter car never appeals to me, which is part of the reason I got my 8 in the first place.

If it was true that people REALLY only cared about the fun factor all the Ferrari's, Lambos, etc would be ugly as sin (but still fun as hell).

more power to the people that wants to show off to other people and get attention, its their money. i just dont think M3 is the car for that type of person because most people outside of the auto enthusiasts have little clue what it is
