A standard Mustang GT will eat the V6 Camaro for lunch in a strait line. The Camaro is heavier and the V6 wont have the power band of the Mustang.
Although, all that the public will see is matching peak 300hp numbers for both cars which is bad for news Ford. Wouldn't be surprised if the GT get a power bump next year.

A great rivalry it is. The one thing that Ford did better then Chevy in the war was developed a car that appealed to both men and women. You always see women driving Mustangs but you seldom ever saw women driving Camaros or even Firebirds. This was the downfall for Chevy, the same goes for the new Camaro. The looks keep it in manhood territory where it should be. In the end the Mustang will out sale the Camaro but performance wise the Mustang will never beat the Camaro.

It's a Cavalier
Oh, yea I agree that the V6 won't keep up with the GT but like you said most people just see HP #'s.

The V6 Camaro is nothing to laugh at. For comparison, the new CTS has the same direct injection 3.6L. The CTS does 0-60 in 5.8, and the quarter in 14.5 at 98. The CTS also weighs 230 lbs more. The LS Camaro will have 245's on the rear instead of 235's. It's unfortunate the Camaro has a 3.27:1 rear end to the CTS's 3.42:1, but the Camaro has a bit shorter gearing in the transmission. I guess they did that to target improved gas mileage.
I think it's reasonable to hope for a 5.7 0-60mph and it might click off a 14.3 in the quarter for one of the magazine tests. That's somewhat comparable to the current Mustang GT's 5.3 to 60 and 13.9 in the quarter. The GT will beat it, sure, but by a handful of car lengths... at least that's what I think.
