R1 v. Porsche Carrera 4- I found it.
Someone mentioned this video. It was pretty cool. For years the motorcyle mags would do a car v. motorcycle. Of course the bike would always kill. I have not seen one done in a long time. Maybe this is the reason. But, this is a $120,000 car versus a $10,000 motorcycle. Anything less could not have done that. Still, cool video. I wish they did more than one lap though.

Boo! That's an older R-wheezy, too. 1998, I think. In Sport Rider, they had a Gixxer 1K spank some 'Vettes. And what's with the "heterosexual" comment and it's relation to sportbike riders, anyhow?

I ride sportbikes also. I know more people who do track days on bikes than I know that do track days in cars. But, there are a ton of idoits on bikes that have no idea of how to ride. (I don't ride with them. They are dangerous.) But given equal levels of talent, it does take one hell of a car to beat a bike. As it showed in the video, bikes power to weight is unbeatable. Another thing car mags like to test is the 0-100-0. A bike can usualy be stopped by the time most cars hit 100.

I'm going to have to disagree with you on this one, brotha-man. I'd say "it depends," on this one. I can probably get better track times on my bike than in a car. But some aspects of performace, I'd be better off in a car. Tight, twisties...car. Wide sweepers...bike. Launching quarters...bike. Braking...bike. U-turns...car. Traffic...bike. Rain...car. See what I mean? And most other riders I know, would probably perform better in a car than their bikes just because any granny can get in a car and mash on the gas for the quarter. On a bike...well, you know that takes a whole 'nother level of coordination, balance and throttle control--or atleast a very good wheelie bar.
I'd say a bike advantages experienced riders and a car advantages just about anyone with a license. In a salom or track, most can atleast finish a circuit and not die in a car. I've been to many a track days where someone shows up with a $20k duck and it goes home on the back of a flat bed...

I've timed myself on most tracks in Ontario on bikes, and compared those times to cars and bikes, race and stock. I've done this a while, and think I'm pretty good at it, but fact is there is no way I'd make it onto the grid at any AMA pro. race.
Point? I think even an intermediate motorcyclist wouldn't put in faster times than a decent driver in a supercar. But real pro. vs. real pro., the bike should usually win most often.
The thing is I don't go 10/10ths on the bike, even on a track, but I wouldn't hesitate in a car...there's the diff. But 8/10's on most sportbikes will still be way faster than 10/10's on most everyday cars like 8's and 350's, etc. This summer I hope to try the 8 on the same tracks, and I'd be stunned if I come close to matching or beating my bike times.

RX8 and a Truk....
They raced ON The track at the SAME time, and the rider wasn't even riding INTENSELY. Serious - did he drag knee once? Very misleading video IMO. While it's true guys who ride Yamaha's aren't exactly HETEROsexual, If that race were done for TIME only, where the rider didn't have to YIELD to a 'fricken car', AND the rider were really leaning that SOB over (and not nearly sitting upright), I'd bet on the bike every time. Even an R1.

PM, take it as a compliment when car guys insult us bike guys, just shows their insecurities. Clarkson does it all the time, just remember that these poor babies couldn't hang on to their Bigwheels in their youth, nevermind a sportbike at speed.

^^ That's funny. I think he was being sarcastic. Or so I hope.....
I ride, too (2006 Suzuki Gixxer 1000), and I have to say a car is easier to make go faster than a bike, but once you're in a rythem on a rocket, you stay in it- in that groove. You feel the rmp, the power, the gearbox, the throttle- everything comes together like it never does in a car. I think that happens because with a bike, you are part of the machine. Your weight throws it into a turn, your body position in key, and there are hundreds of things happening in your brain at once.
I've spanked soooo many people in $100K plus rides its ridiciolous. I'm talken Ferrari 360s and 430s, Vettes, Vipers, 911s, Supras, WRXs and STis, Evos, 350s, fellow RX-8s and RX-7s, and countless other cars. Don't even get me started on the Civics!! There was an FD one time that nearly caught me- that was one badass ride.
I also have to agree that even the best rider won't push his bike to anything beyond 8/10 of his limit on the street whereas in a car you're enclosed, giving the false impression of "safety" so you can push harder than a guy on a bike, especially when you throw in twisties.
Just my 0.2 cents.
