The renesis gets bad mileage, but it would probably be noticeably better if it were in a car that weighed a half ton less. I suspect that's part of the reason why Mazda is interested in putting it in a much lighter car, as Zoom44 has hinted at. It might also weigh less than the Toyota motor if Mazda would get with the program and make an all-aluminum rotary.

I don't get why they still use the iron-aluminum sandwich. There's got to be a reason, but I'm at a loss.

Could it be that iron and aluminum expand and contract at different rates? I dunno, just guessing.

Well the 2ZZ is actually a Yamaha engine; though I admit I do like it. I used to own a Celica GT-S, and if that car had been rear drive I probably would have one right now.

I'm not going to get into another stupid argument. I could present facts til I'm blue in the face and the fanbois will still twist things around and believe what they want.
I will say for those of you saying the Elise/Exige would sound better with a Renesis have probably never heard one. They sound pretty incredible with the 2ZZ-GE.

True. But I can't see why not. Toyota reliability + Sports car = HEAVEN? Lol, seriously though, the time is ripe for toyota to give us a competitor for the 350z and the RX-8 that gets better gas mileage than both of them with comparable performance.

Well I've owned both the 2ZZ and the Renesis and I like the Renesis sound much more.
In my opinion, of Toyota's RWD sports car offerings in the '90s, only the MR2 is truly great; and even that car wasn't much of an improvement over the first generation. The Supra at 3500 pounds is just too heavy for my tastes.
