Renesis powered Miata listed on ebay.

What strikes me is how nicely the RENESIS sits in the chassis (I guess it should as they are based on the same one). Still behind the fnt axle line, plenty of room in the engine bay, etc. Why Mazda never made an official RENESIS Miata is mind boggling. I know they sell alot as is, but the extra production for a RENE version would have been a slam dunk IMHO.
Who knows, maybe it'll go in the next lighter MX-5 - 2200LBs w/237HP sounds about right to me.

Why it was never done, who knows but it would have been nice.
It wont happen with the renesis, maybe the next rotary if there is one, but the current renesis is dead. If mazda can make the next renesis last longer before having compression issues, improve power and MPG/emissions, it would be a good move for mazda to put a Rotary in several different platforms. When you do that, you can charge more money for the higher output motor which increases profits on the HP option and increases sales on the regular option. The other thing it does is increase production numbers which in turn cuts down on R&D price per unit and increase a companies bottem line. What mazda does not want to do is put a problem child Renesis into more cars which will only hurt their profits.
I strongly believe Mazda is and will continue to work on a future rotary motor. Biggest reason I say that is because Mazda stuck behind the Renesis with the extended warrenty. That move hurt profits but kept brand and more specificaly Rotary Loyality up. If mazda was going to ditch the Rotary for ever they would have said, you bought the car and now your stuck with it.

what is the theory behind 30 hp gain from cutting "power" from the alt. You are still wasting the same amount of energy driving the alt pulley. The only way to "free" up H/P is to remove the alt. or belt completely. Even then you are not going to see huge gains.

If you had an alternator in your hands, it's quite easy to turn, and the mass doesn't put much load on the system. how ever if you connect the power out to the body of the alternator, then try turning it, it's almost like it has brakes, and takes alot more effort to turn. the hp robbing comes from the alternator pump out 50 or more amps, not the weight of the moving parts.
